Great start for the Munster boys, that's a very strong Ulster Ravens side.

Both sides have missed penalties and I think our scrum is a bit unstable

9-20 FT. Fantastic result for the lads.

If Jaco was at the game he might give us a quick report on the podcast next week.

    Good win.

Good to see Scanlon get a try, I think he should get a few chances in the first team, he looked lively enough against Connacht.

    Right.

We have to win to make sure we don't get Toulouse.

Toulouse are in 6th place and will probably stay there so 3rd spot will be the one to avoid.

Munster A match report from Ulsterrugby.com
    Ravens 9 Munster A 20
20 January 2012, 9:58 pm ::Match Report By Richard Finlay

Ulster ravens exited the British & Irish Cup after a disappointing 9-20 quarter final defeat against Munster A...Gary Longwell was able to call on the majority of players who helped his side go through the pool stages with a 100% record and was able to install Nigel Brady as captain.
Munster A outhalf Scott Deasy opened the scoring with a penalty from 40 metres out. His opposite number Paddy Jackson had two opportunities to draw level, the second of which he dispatched.

A neat backline move by the Munstermen, with Australian centre Will Chambers to the fore, allowed Luke O'Dea to break down the left touchline but Luke Marshall and Conor Gaston combined to keep him out.

Another well-worked attack from the visiting backs created apace for the dangerous Chambers who sliced open the Ravens defence in midfield. His well-timed pass sent fullback Sean Scanlon over the whitewash and Deasy landed the simple conversion to put his side 3-10 up.

Jackson missed a fairly straightforward penalty attempt before Munster scored their second try. Chambers was again involved and he supplied a pass to Deasy who cut a great angle to touch down under the posts. He added the extras to put Munster 3-17 up at the interval.

The Ravens started the second half brightly and Jackson immediately cut into the lead with a well struck effort. Deasy and Jackson swapped penalties to leave the score at 9-20 after an hour.

Ulster improved in the last 15 minute and the pressure told as replacement hooker Mike Sherry was sin binned. They continued to fight their way back into the game but a combination of poor handling and excellent defence from Munster kept them out.

Munster might still get a home tie with a losing bonus point. All depends on how Cardiff and Clermont perform. Either one needs five points to deny Munster.

Yeah but you never know, we could end up in 3rd with a losing bonus. If we win, we're in the top 2 and will get Cardiff/Edinburgh or Ulster.

It's not impossible, Northampton have a weakened side, they've moved it Milton Keynes...it could be a lot harder.

It's so damn unpredictable I don't think you can target anything.

I agree, Munster should go out to win, get the home QF and then take what comes.

I seriously doubt any team would try and 2nd guess the possibilities of qualification and try for a result that may give them what some would call an easier QF.

The rumour of O Leary to France is still alive anyway.

French clubs lead chase to secure services of O'Leary

TOMAS O'LEARY is poised to make a decision on his future with reports that the Ireland and Munster scrum-half has been made several offers by French clubs.

Last November, the Irish Independent reported that O'Leary was interested in a switch to France having fallen behind Conor Murray at Munster and failing to make the Ireland World Cup squad.

France media sources are now claiming that the 28-year-old, whose contract is up at the end of the season, has been made at least two offers by French clubs which O'Leary is certain to consider if he cannot secure a suitable deal to remain in Ireland.

O'Leary was Ireland's first-choice scrum-half from 2008 through to last year's Six Nations and earned Lions selection after helping Ireland to the Grand Slam in 2009.

However, the Corkman was not included in the Ireland Six Nations squad announced last week ahead of the opening clash with Wales in a fortnight's time. Ireland coach Declan Kidney named Murray and Leinster's Eoin Reddan as his top two scrum-halves with O'Leary and Isaac Boss included in the Wolfhounds squad to face England A at the end of this month.

O'Leary is on the Munster bench for this evening's Heineken Cup clash with Northampton at Franklin's Gardens, with Murray partnering Ronan O'Gara at half-back.

I don't think anyone expected that to happen. We have shown that, we are very difficult to beat but, we've finally shown that we can win a game. We must build on this result and we could harbour genuine hopes of contending for the HC.

Our pack has somehow been fronting up to all comers, now all we need is some luck on the injury front and we'll gain some dynamism from the returning Jones, Wallace and Sherry.

The most impressive thing about the weekend is that we were able to sent out 46 players and win 2 games with over 10 players missing from the squad.

I'd have been more satisfied if we had won narrowly and competed at the scrum. Our scrum will now be targeted in the q.f. and a scrum ( like a lineout) which is targeted, generally creaks and sometimes perilously as in the s.f. away to Biarritz a few years ago which we should have won but did'nt ( and could have gone to another final against an average enough Toulouse). Who was to blame for today's fiasco? Its the only dark shadow over an otherwise fabulous day.

I don't agree, I think it was more satifising to see that our backline can actually play rugby.
