Niall Ronan gone for the season - confirmed by Munster.

It's hardly a surprise but it's exactly what we didn't need right now. TOD who would have benefited from this layoff is out injured too.

Munster set to sign Downey, with Laulala and Ruddock also targets.

If you're going to have a one dimensional Noah merchant restricting creativity in your back line, at least make him Irish!

Laulala is a class act but I've heard he's considering a move home as well.

Ruddock would be great move for both himself and Munster. Leinster will be disappointed but its best for Ruddock and best for Ireland. Leinster are going to have to decide between him, McLoughlin and Ryan I think.

given the way Munster play Downey will suit them perfectly, Ruddock needs more game time and is more likely to get it at Munster. would be suprised to see the likes of Macken, Carr & Conway move south also.

Not surprising. He did a decent job as cover, good luck to him.

It's a step I guess, from 10 man rugby to 12 man rugby.

Maybe someday we'll see the whole 15 guys being involved.

According to the piece on the storm website he was offered a "lucrative long term deal" by us but turned it down to go back to league

Jeremy Manning tweeted this, looks like he's picked an injury. No way to get real sleep but I suppose it reduces time off the field.

Munster signing Downey and looking for another (NIE) centre clearly shows that McGahan isn't happy with his options. For me it shows that it wasn't his choice to put Earls at 13.

Laulala is a top player, plus Munster tried to sign him before.

Laulala & Ruddock would be excellent siginings. Delighted to see Ruddock isn't happy twiddling his thumbs in Leinster & is willing to move to get gametime. Downey is fairly basic, but he would definitely be an improvement on what we're currently working with & he's IQ...

He hasn't exactly been sat on his arse. He played 12 Rabo games and come on in 3 HEC games. Not bad for his age. There is the problem that most of the players ahead of him are fairly young though.

I don't see the point of signing Lualala and Downey. Is Mafi leaving at the end of the season?

He was clearly influenced by your team selection :D

Ruddock would be a great signing. Could convert POM to play 7 and they could be a great partnership.

Not sure about Downey though. He's a good player but a bit limited, I'm not sure he's the right type to solve our backline problems.

You can already see the how the threat of the NIQ reduction is chaning the recruiting profile of the provinces. I imagine it won't be long before the likes of Caldwell and Andress are getting offers to come home.

I'd be delighted with Downey to be honest, I accept his limitations but he'd be a big improvement on the current lot.

Chambers is leaving Union altogether and going back to League in Australia.

Ex-Reds and Munster outside centre Will Chambers has agreed a deal to return to former NRL club Melbourne, bringing to an end his stint in union.

The 23-year-old joins the Storm after impressing during Super Rugby 2010 before performing well in the RaboDirect PRO12 and Heineken Cup.

Now we know where at least one of the estate agents who were selling 1 bed hovels in Dublin for 500K+ went. He/she is handling player transfers for Munster Rugby.

NH are gonna find it tough next season, with 3 first teamers leaving, between Downey, Ashton and Wilson...

So basically they are charging €50-€100 for a ticket to the Leinster game....

I think Ruddock is the best signing of the three. Definately one for the future. If we get him from Leinster it will a significant coup.

Downey and Laulala would be OK but I can't see either of them being in a Heineken Cup team of the year any time soon. Both would be solid players in a team in contention for the 4th & final semi place in the Pro-12 and scrapping to get second place in a HEC group and the Amlin Cup QF that comes as a result. Perhaps that's where McGahan sees Munster long term. But I'd take the money being spent on both of those and find one decent world class centre who can do things like, you know score tries when attacking and tackle when defending, which has been lacking a bit in our recent centre partnerships.

Seems a done deal according to Saints website, Rhys Ruddock also a target according to Thornley. Seems unhappy with opportunities in Leinster. In fairness we need a backrow and a centre...badly.

I consider Downey as a better version of Mafi so if he is coming in as a replacement for Mafi great

 Cardiff and Ulster are fairly big games,
fairly good deal to get cardiff, ulster and leinster 3 teams who may be in the knock out stages of the heineken for between €50 and €100

Looking at the A side it looks like MOD and DOC2 on the bench against the saints.

Laulala made the ML team of the year ahead of ODriscoll a couple of times. Definitely could make a HCup team of the year.

    Agree about Downey though.

Why would you say that? The 3 matches have decent opposition, Ulster usually attracts a big crowd.

Decent enough team, good to see Butler being named as he had been injured but wasn't mentioned in the last update on injuries.
