Varley is well ahead of him this season. Might have been different if they'd both started the season fully fit but Sherry hasn't a prayer of getting into the 6N's mix for this season.

Realistically yes. It would have been great to see him play midweek games in the summer tour had they been agreed.

Also on the Sherry article, TOD is out for 6 weeks and Gleeson is out for 10. The extent of Butler's injury is to be assessed. Leamy, along with Dougie and Darragh Hurley is expected to miss the rest of the season.

Gleeson's Munster career has been dogged by injury, I expect him to be released come the end of the season. He's 26 and hasn't done much in the games he has played.

Strange thing with Munster is they don't tend to release guys like Gleeson when they should... He has been hanging on for a while and has never really shown himself capable of stepping up even to Pro-12 level.

Totally agree, we hold on and on to players when in some cases we should be letting them go about a couple of seasons earlier to try younger/different options who if given the chance may make heineken cup players. Gleeson has been unlucky with injurys but he's 26 and has only been involved in 20 or so games in 6 seasons.
We have a monstrous squad and we should be looking to cut 5 or 6 from that who just are not getting a look in

Il put this in here for those who might not have seen it in the youths thread. A munster youths select is playing a swedish u19 side in CIT tomorrow. Kick off at 3 for anyone who wants to see some of the best u18 players in munster play against the best sweden has to offer

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,207 ✭✭✭durkadurka

I was watching some of the best Swedish 18 year olds have to offer the other night but that's another matter entirely

Great to hear he is back, I think he is the more complete player than Varley. Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought he was keeping Varley on the bench towards the end of last season.
Varley's lineout throwing really infuriates me. Sometimes it seems like pot luck whether he hits his man or not. He has got better but is not international class in my opinion. Is it my imagination or has he become less noticeable around the park also. Less barnstorming runs, seems to take-on the ball less.

Varley's a dog for grunt work though, continually looking to take the ball on around the fringes. I don't think he's Int standard but I wouldn't mind seeing him on the bench if needs be.

Think it's unfair to building Sherry up so much.

Game between the swedes and CBC finished lost 19-3 to CBC.
the swedes were leading 3-0 half time but CBC were too strong in the end. they play a Munster Regional Development squad tonight.

that's actually a lot closer than I thought it'd be, even if it's just a schools side from CBC.

Any word on who made the development squad?

Tbf to Hurley, he's been decent enough in his time at fullback.

We need to work out why Jones keeps getting injured and fix it, if at all possible.

Maybe they should put him through a training program that highlights the dangers of running head-first into johnny oconnor?

Some of his physical attributes you can't change but simple things like how he enters contact would be a good start. He's far too upright when he takes the hit. His tackling technique is ok but he could do a little less front on tackling as he hasn't got the power but has bags of pace so could easily show guys the outside shoulder a bit more.

That's no problem. We'd give him one of Seanies blue scrum caps!
Leo Cullen's on the turn now and we need someone who can aspire to his standards.

Hard to believe that at 59 years of age that he was Shannon RFC's first B&I Lion

Anybody know what the story is with Will Chambers? I thought he was gone but he was named in the squad for saturday. I have been happy enough to chance him until the summer if it was possible to hold him.
