I'd keep McGahan but I'd drive Jason Holland to the airport. We really really need a new backs coach.

It would be a short flight he lives in Middleton

Funny thing is I was chatting to lad who coaches in the Connacht set-up and Holland is seemingly highly rated within the coaching circles of the IRFU. mystery to me.

As what? Did anyone ever tell us what Mick Galways role is?

Maybe he talks a good game but the proof is there for all to see. Like Fisher before him its obvious he isn't able to get the team functioning like other coaches can.

More bad news on the injury front for Munster and Ireland.

Michael Corcoran tweeted this last night.
Denis Leamy will miss the 6 Nations because of a hip injury, surgery needed, out for 4 months #rterugby #irish#rugby #6nations

ah lads, this is getting ridiculous.... Feel terrible for Leamy, he has allot of critics but his determination and will-to-win is up there with the best... You have to be concerned for his long term future after another serious injury at this stage of his career. Just hope Ronan is ok or our back row options will be extremely limited.

Bad news for Munster and Leamy but not for Ireland. Hes not good enough. Great opportunity for POM now

I suppose if POM does step up then it isn't bad news for Ireland. Still Leamy has always done well in a green jersey and has been a fantastic impact player this year.

Careful now thomond going on the D for a Munster player is frowned on here by some.

Also, no mention that Paulie came off injured last night. I hope it was just a niggle and they threw on Holland who was already on the sideline waiting to get the nod. I doubt that was the call when Holland was being prepared but they went that way once O'Connell sent word to the line.

It is great news for Ireland in that it will force Kidney outside his comfort zone. Leamy has no business in the Ireland squad, so hopefully we'll see either POM, Ruddock or Chris Henry get a go.

On an unrelated topic, what has happened to Keatley's goal-kicking? His conversion attempt last night was comical.

I would hate to sound in any way like I'm happy about someone getting injured but you're pretty much right, no choice but to pick POM now for the bench I reckon.

Leamy was having a super season as an impact player, head and shoulders ahead of the other options if Ireland were looking for an impact player.

This could be the making of POM, he's pretty much guaranteed some serious gametime during the 6 nations & should start at least one match...

I'd bet that it was this injury that was stopping Leamy from being effective for a whole game, and turned him into a better impact player. He always seems on the verge of being out with this injury, and maybe after max 40 mins of rugby it would be affecting him too much. I remember the Saints game, he came on was great for 20 minutes, and somebody reported he was seen on crutches later that week.

Hopefully he can get it sorted and be back, I still think he can be a quality player for us. The number of injuries is growing again. Wallace can't return fast enough, to give us some cover in the back row.

The efforts to bring Rhys Ruddock to Munster need to go into overdrive in the offseason!!

The best selector in the Irish setup at the moment are random injuries.

Hope Leamy gets well soon and comes back with a vengeance for Munster, but he didn't deserve to be playing at the level of international rugby ahead of the players that he was, and its going to be just another example of injuries making a selection choice that Kidney doesn't have the vision or courage to.

POM needs to learn to tackle correctly before he gets any time for Ireland. He'd be killed.

I'd go along with that. After the Leamy the drop-off in the backrows available to Ireland is massive.

John Muldoon, Kevin McLaughlin and Chris Henry would certainly argue with you there.

Rhys Ruddock. Peter O'Mahoney and Dominic Ryan would also have a thing or two to counter with....

These lads aren't far away at all from making the step.

Whatever about the younger three, the older three are decent committed players but a fully fit Leamy was a great player. He's really had little or no luck since 2008 and even that was coming back off an injury, iirc.

It's 2012. He hasn't performed as he had in the prime of his career in almost 4 years. I don't think there's much point in getting nostalgic about it.

Injuries or no injuries, Leamy is far too one dimensional to ever be international class in today's game. He is similar to Powell in that respect. He should be nowhere near the international team.

Nah, he's shown flashes and had good periods during that time. He had a great world cup off the bench, for example and was generally having a good season til now. Even this season, he's been better than the three players you compared him to.

ha. Chris Henry has been incredible for Ulster for 80mins week in week out. You're having a laugh.

Albeit at 7. His peformance against Clermont was exceptional.

    Incredible? Really?

Ferris is incredible, a truly great player, seemingly playing with no knees, and easily one of the best 6's in the world. That is incredible.

Pocock is incredible, a guy who played super rugby as a 7 as a teenager, makes his entire team better, one of the best in the world.

McCaw is incredible, a decade at the top of his game for the best team in the world.

So, do you really think Henry is incredible?

What is he is doing that strains credibility?

    hyerbole much?

Instead of trying to divert the topic, would you not just address the point that I made instead of the manner that I made it in? It makes for actual debate instead of snide point-scoring

Henry's season has been far and above Leamy's.

Really pathetic. You claimed Leamy had a "great" world cup, he didn't even get of the bench against Australia.
