Did you click on the link?

It's a website to make people 'aware' that downloading torrents isn't private and sometimes your ip information can be left and made public.

The embarassing thing being that all the ip address of this house is associated with is Duke Nukem Forever.

I doubt anyone will be sued over that. Maybe we'll get a thank you letter for at least giving the game a go.

    Thats very pathetic:

    1) Not all torrents contain copyright protected data
    2) Most IP's use Dynamic IP structure, meaning when you log on your assigned an IP address from a pool of addresses. You don't retain this address forever, & it changes a lot. This means your granny could log on tomorrow & recieve the ip address that Ciderman had over the xmas which would be bad.
    3) Who gives a fcuk?

No blues for me, contract finished and I'm officially a man of leisure.
Until I can convince another company that they really need my services that is.

I'm happy/sad. Happy that I can relax for a while, sad that I'm now technically unemployed.

    :):o:(

Is it disc shaped? Does this disc use a certain type of beam which starts with an L and ends with an R to read data?

Does it feature content from a very well known Shmup?!

Indeed. There are too many holes in the system to 'catch' people for it to be taken seriously. It just feels like the courts are ill informed regarding technology and just believe what they are told by 'experts' from copywrite holders.

The fact that I could gain access to someone who isn't very tech savvys wireless, download countless GB of copywrited data (not to mention illegal content) and they could be held responsible and even go to prison is a joke.

It's still a valid site as it's not much better than what the music and film industry uses to go after people, hence thousands of people being wrongfully accused.

Last time I ever deal with Shopto. Ordered a game off of them before Christmas. By default they charged me registered post. I immediately contacted them asking for a rebate and to send it standard mail.

Took about 800 emails and eventually they caved in and said they'd send a pre-paid envelope to ship it back to them. That arrived just now and the stupid thing is Royal Mail pre-paid for UK only.

You'd think they'd save themselves a few bob and the hassle and just refund me the £3 or so difference.

Out of principle I'm not backing down until I either get the difference refunded or they pay to have it sent back to them.

Seriously, it's been a while since I've dealt with such shoddy customer service. Once this is resolved I won't be using them again.

    What a pain in backside!
Typing this on the Kindle with the onscreen keyboard.
But thats not the biggest problem, it's just a nasty display to surf with.
Great to read books on though!

It's a bloody lifesaver when you need a bit of email or basic internet when abroad(the 3g version anyway). It's free, battery life is fantastic and it seems to cut through national/international firewalls like a hot knife through butter(I'm looking at you China).

    iPad battery life =10 hours
    Kindle battery life=∞

You can browse the internet with a Kindle and it's free?

Didn't know that! I remember reading something about people in China buying them in swathes to get around the great red firewall but didn't realize that's how.

Ditto. My trusty Kindle 2 has helped me out on several occasions such as this.

It's still the best device to read books on, magazines, not so much, I use my iPad for that.

I have the keyboard-less Kindle and it's not the 3G model, so no advantages there.
Tbh the keyboard only makes sense if you are browsing and I don't see the point in the 3G version either, seeing as I don't travel further that Clonsilla for most months in the year.

Not having a static IP myself, I'd call the site invalid. The wrongful accusations too kinda also make it invalid. I'd quicker defend myself in court when it comes to IT stuff

My address today could be your address tomorrow. Case closed :)

Won't help much if things go the way they are in Germany.

Went down to check on how the paint turned out on my entertainment stand and to my horror its all bubbled and turned out ****.

And since its one coat MDF paint sanding it off isnt really an option because it really soaks in. Looks like its back to the drawing board. Want to see if I can save myself some time, does anyone know if places like B&Q will do out a basic cutting list?

Things like this need real world comparisons to put them in some kind of context.

This is like someone stealing your car, running a load of people down and then YOU being setenced for murder because you owned the car.

On a different note - yay! happyness! Shinobi for the 3DS and The Last Blade for the NGP arrived today.

It's weird actually having 3DS games to play. I've been using the hell out of it for the last couple of weeks.

I'd be taking it to a higher court tbh if that were me.

I had Mario Kart and Marioland 3D registered the moment I bought them in case I forgot about Kid Icarus.

Didn't know it was out that soon though. Great to hear! Even more to play and I've barely touched Mario Kart.

Wha?! And here I was thinking I got mine for a steal at over a tenner more.

Must have a look in HMV to see if they have any going cheap during the sales.

The South Park RPG that Obsidian are working on looks like it could be pretty great:

    Which is the bigger news?

1- A great South Park game?

b- A great, well... anything from Obsidian?

    iii- Atari jaguar?

Oh I liked KotOR II actually... just wish it could have been finished properly.

This is going to play out like Paper Mario. It looks great.

Anyone remember Chef's Love Shack on the Dreamcast? I used to enjoy that one as a party game. Definitely one for the next meet up.

Ah, leave Obsidian alone. They're a great developer that really try to push the envelope but so far haven't been given the budget or time to do so. They're games are always more interesting than Modern Shooter 5: the Shootening even if they are buggy. Never stopped people loving Bethesda games :)

Is that pity I hear Retr0?
    Pity?

What more condemnation does one need?

    "Didn't have the budget"
    "Didn't have the money"
"Weren't Bioware or Bethesda" more like! ;)

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 54,083 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

The folks at Obsidian made Fallout 1 and 2 and Planescape Torment when they had the resources, three games that are far better than anything Bioware and Bethesda have done. They've also got Chris Avellone, who is a far better writer than any of the hacks at Bioware and Bethesda who churn out the same cliched plotlines. Someday Obsidian will have a budget and make something very special.

Pity and hope in as many posts from Retr0!
2012, must be the end of days! ;)
