    Bought complete or self build?

They're bought as kits, assembly only needed & some basic wiring knowledge. The detail on them is stunning. I have a boxed 1:850 Refit amongst others such as the Reliant to get around to some day...but they're the full kits & wanna build up my skill-set first :)

they're stunning models, such detail on them.

Where exactly did you buy the kits, in shop or online. i'd be interested in building them.

I got them on ebay years ago, There's 5 ships in the Bandai range...they're all painted & lit as above

    Enterprise 1701
    Enterprise 1701-A
    Enterprise 1701-E
    Enterprise NX-01
    Voyager

They're kinda expensive now if you search you'll see what I mean..they weren't as dear when I was collecting them. But as you say the detail on them is epic

    Bandai NX-01

I did something a bit different with this one. I didn't use the existing lighting kit, & instead use led's & used my own lighting circuit. The difference is much better in person, but its damned hard to get decent shots of these models when the lights are on...must be my camera.

Anyway, I designed everything around a 5v psu & used resistors accordingly. I light boxed where needed, & the end result is very good. The buzzard collector are a bit intense so I might need to up the resistance going to them.

Enterprise NX-01 is the coolest looking one. That was my favourite series, loved that starship. The lighting effects on it are truly amazing, really sets it off.

i had a klingon warbird, next gen enterprise and a ds9
ds9 took ****ing hours to build, i left it down on my bed after I'd finished and went onto my computer. was looking through the phonebook to find a number for something afterwards and without thinking just threw the book over my shoulder when i'd found the number.

I hear a big crash. I look behind me and I had accomplished what the domion could not.
never bothered with models again after that.

ì built airfix WW2 model planes in the early 80's when i was a teenager, going to have a look and see if i can get some star trek models, and custom add some extra LEDs like EnterNow. You've really made them much better.

    Cheers all,

The leds are only on the NX-01...I was considering 'refitting' the others with led circuits & suppose I'll get around to it at some stage  I've some retouching to do first though with the above models where seams don't line up & light leakage etc.

Some of the lads on starshipmodeller have some unreal models, the refit Connie is exceptional

Cool models. Been thinking of buying a few Star Trek model's myself but I don't know if I'd have the patience or skill required in order to buy something that required assembly.

the refit enterprise could do with a nice low blue deflector. Other than that they are all brill.

Are they (excluding NX-01) all using fibre optics or LED?

The 1701-A Bandai Enterprise has the blue deflector, the one above is meant to be pre-TWOK so thats why it has the pale yellow glow. I have the 1701-A boxed & ready to be built...somewhere in the attic, must dig it out!

Regards the lighting, they come with fibre optic lighting kits. Some parts are directly lit with bulbs, & others have optical guides that direct the light to certain areas.

Really nice looking models, only ever built WW2 ships, planes and the odd car but those were all years ago and none were photogenic.

I did find this model of Enterprise that you might like.

in case anyone is interested i emailed my local model shop: The Model Centre
    Waterford.

And said he has no Star Trek Models in Stock, but he has the facility to order them in, and it only takes a week, holidays permitting.

So im gonna put an order in soon as i decide what i want.

I'd be interested in maybe more of the Bandai sets. I'd like to give the rest of them the led treatment but kind of unsure now given their value & apparent rarity of the Votager one etc.

The other ERTL models etc like the Reliant look sweet, can't wait to get stuck back into making them.

I think I'll get stuck into this while watching TMP, that Refit intro scene is just epic in 1080p

It'd be a crime to name her anything other than 'ole 1701-A I think.

I might take a few snaps of the build process & throw them up for posterity

    Nice...

For the record TMP isn't a bad film, visually its a work of art, I think the same VFX crew worked on 2001. I can't imagine what trekkers must have felt when seeing the enterprise in all its cinematic glory compared to the original series models in TOS.

Becareful, annoying people with food will surround you if you build this on Christmas Day :p

Have fun and a Merry Christmas, don't forget the after shots.

where are they getting those numbers from, surely if Constitution, the class leader, is 1700 all the numbers below her are wrong?

When was there a Defiant-A too?

There's plenty of numbers lower than 1700 that are Constitution class. The numbers appear correct, although I'm not sure about the -A in some of them. They're only decals though, you can cut the -A off if it's not correct

The only issue with this kit, the join of the nacelles to the secondary hull isn't a great fit. Still though, for no glue it does the job well. I might revisit these at a later stage & dremmel them to fit perfectly
