Very interesting, fabulous game that is. You planning on getting the 360 PAL version next year?

It will be on pre-order as soon as it is available :)

Consider my name on the list for a Vita and the XBOX 360 release. :)

I'll buy PCB's of Darius Gaiden and Metal Black thanks to the PS2 versions looking like someone smeared trouser custard over the screen, even with an SLG3000 running.

I fupping hate when developers add ****ty filtering to perfectly gorgeous sprite art. Valkyrie Profile on PSP is ruined by some awful bilinear filtering on top of some of the best 32-bit pixel art.

Agreed. Even the SLG can't help the Taito Memories discs. It just looks plain awful.

It put me off playing Metal Black something chronic, so I am going to buy a copy for the Saturn instead and play that. Those PS2 discs are a pile of old, smelly bum.

Thats actually being played in Ketsui mode; i.e. its taking the music, scoring etc from Ketsui and overlaying it onto Dodonpachi.

Thanks for the explanation! I did think it was too overkill as you couldnt see the background, but that explains it.

This is sort of like my first time playing Super Mario Bros 2 as a kid,
and thought there was really something weird about the game, but i couldn't put my finger on it!

Brother and his friend walked in while I was playing DoDonPachi.

Looks of pure confusion and bemusement on their faces.

    So I just got Jamestown.

Doing ok on Sixaxis, but I'm gonna switch over to my LS-32 stick ASAP

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 11,352 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

Good game that. Especially love the title music in it.

I spent an hour or two last night trying to get a controller to work on my Mac with Jamestown. It wasn't reading the directional pad on my Hori stick for some reason :( And for some bizarre reason you have to go back and rebind the directional keys after you've set the other ones :/ Which is no help when you can't move the cursor in the unusually awkward control selection screen.

Eventually found a solution online that got my Sixaxis running through Bluetooth (surprisingly easily!), and used a keyboard emulation app to map keys. It's a messy solution - has a strange habit of selecting two players on the player select screen unless I use the keyboard - but hey it works! Going to try and do the same with the aracde stick today.

Anyway, nice to have a version that runs much smoother than it did on my PC, although to add one last insult it doesn't seem to have Steam Cloud save features so have to work my way through all the levels and challenges again. Won't take long, but still a slight frustration.

Festive high score challenge anyone :pac: Still pay what you want for a while for anyone who has yet to pick it up, plus amazing other games too!

I love the Humble Bundles, I'll be getting this purely for Jamestown though, didn't know it was a part of the latest bundle, thanks Mr. Ultimate. :)

By the way, Voxatron is awesome, pick that up if you haven't already, although I think it's gone up to $15 now.

Voxatron is indeed awesome. It fairly ramps up the difficulty when you get into a bit.

Didnt know that about Jamestown though! good news indeed.

There's so many humble bundles at this point (think there's been three in the last two months or so) I keep losing track of what games I have :pac: Think I have a copy of Voxatron knocking around somewhere alright! Usually pay 12 dollars - I tend to feel bad paying less than that given the amount of stuff you get!

The new one really is a good deal. Jamestown is worth a purchase on its own terms. Cave Story, Super Meat Boy and Shank are superb bonuses, and the extra games are surely worth a quick whirl too. Alas a few are destined to languish in the Steam Library unplayed for decades hence :P

Is that Humble Bundle version of Jamestown completely independent of Steam do you know? As in you can run it like a standalone exe?

You get steam keys and a standalone download :)

I don't use Steam but there's a DDL right? Like yourself Mr. U, I always pay well above the average amount. Mainly because it's such good value, it helps charity obviously but you also get access to the odd added extra sometimes. Such as with Voxatron, they added two extra games for anyone that paid over the average. :)

Nice one. I had the standard edition pre-ordered back in August, thankfully they let me cancel it the day LE was announced so I could pre-order the same day.

    Can't wait for it!

Just cleared ESPGALUDA II HD on the iPad 2 and I must say they did a really good job on it.
It's a bit pricey for what it is but I think it's worth it and it looks and runs amazing on the iPad screen.

Just picked up the Humble Bundle this morning. Doubt I'll get to give any of the games a shot until next week though. :(

Excited for Jamestown. Hopefully it'll be a commercial success and we'll have lots of sequels such as:

    Walshestown
    Julianstown
    Bettystown
Garrettstown (named after that bloke from Thief?)
    and
    Phibsborough

...and so on. Exciting times! :)
