was sitting across from a lad i recognised before, he went off and left his latop/phone and wallet on desk, when i looked up next some lad was trying to put it in his bag, when i asked him what was he doing he tried to pretend he owned it. Funnily enough when i told him i would call security he disappeared very, just as the lad i knew was coming back.
I wouldnty leave anythin unattended in the library, i left a book i had on SL on the desk and when i came back it was gone, checked out and borrowed by someone else:mad::mad:

In first year I left my laptop unattended in the library for about 2 hours. When I came back it wasn't even touched.

Then in 2nd year I dashed out to the bathroom for a second to answer a phonecall. Whn I came back my iPod had been snatched.

Sometimes it's all about luck. Be careful. :\

Yeah, it's best not to take chances. I think it's mainly due to the low volume of students in CSIS, and the fact that the stuff was in a lab on the very top floor that it wasn't robbed. As for slipping out for five minutes, I'd never worry about leaving my stuff on the desk to run out to the toilet, there's just something about the atmosphere in CSIS that lulls you into believing that scumbags are somehow repelled at the doors by some sort of forcefield. :)

I'd say that's pretty much unheard of in CSIS, probably because there isn't as big a volume of students in there as there is in the library. Sure, we get law students in there sometimes, but that would be the height of it, and they wouldn't be the students to be going around stealing stuff.

    I should hope not. :pac:

Another reason is that the majority of people using CSIS are giant nerds (I include myself in that btw) and us nerds gotta stick together. :pac:

Probably due to the awesome powers of Dr. Chris Exton.

Fair play to you. Always take what i need with me to a desk or stay beside book shelves i have to use. Only time i left my laptop alone is when i had to go to the main building to get a form.

I had no idea the library was that bad. Pity they don't implement a swipe in system like in the Arena. Then they could do the whole '3 strikes and you're out' kind of thing as well.

Not 100% sure, but I think that's being implemented for AY12/13, now that we have the new ID cards and all.

Really? Nothing was said about this at CRC.

One lad sitting beside me during the week left his laptop for two hours the last day. Fair enough I was sitting there and I would have kept an eye on it but how did he think that would make sense?? Apart from the theft issue, it's also unfair on other people trying to find space.. CSIS ftw :)

Don't quote me on it. Just thought I saw some mentions of it on here and in other places a while back. Though, now that I think of it, it might have been part of the new extension plan, which as we know, is now cancelled.

That would probably explain a lot, now that you mention it.

99.99% certain there will be swipe access to the library either in semester 2 or next year

yea whats with that? its not like the LC is hard and stealing study space from Uni people is just mean.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,009 ✭✭✭✭wnolan1992

I don't get the point of LC students coming to a Uni Library to study. I mean what's the point? surely you'd get more done at home.... or did I just have the amazing ability to study while sitting in surroundings that I'm comfortable in rather than in the middle of a public place....

If I was in the library when full and I saw a LC student, I'd simply ask them to move. They're not the ones paying for it.

Haha...when I was on TP I was in the library getting some lessons together...I was there with a load of schools books and some girl came over, gave out to me and told me to leave. Who did I think I was taking up space I wasn't entitled to?!

I pulled out my ID card and informed her she was a spastic. I've never seen anyone retreat as quickly.... :D:D:D:D

Never mind Cydoniac, now I have nightmares from that story.............

    Back on topic:
Can we PLEASE have the Dromroe shop open on a Sunday? I've ran out of hand sanitizer again and I really can't be arsed walking out to Spar on Plassey Rd.

Bit of a joke that it's closed to be honest. There're usually a f*ck load of people around at the weekends, don't get why they don't just open. Wanted a bottle of water this morning, but too lazy to walk all the way to the other spar, so ended up getting a can of coke from the vending machine instead. :pac:

We haven't had that option for weeks now.

Its probably not economical having the shop open on a Sunday...what I mean is, many students travel home for the wkend and when the cost for labour / electricity etc is taken into consideration, it's most likely a no-goer.

    Perhaps do the following:
    - Invest in a bicycle - you'll get to spar and back in no time, or the walk will do you good! It's not THAT far! It amazes me the amount of students who DRIVE from Plassey onto the campus!
    - Ask the Village Management if water can be put into the vending machines as another option. They liaise with the vending machine company so I'm sure it's a viable option, or invest in those machines where water and other healthy alternatives are available. I've seen one in Kilmurry Village Hall so I know they're an option for villages.
-Plan your shopping list better!?! (Sorry that's a bit of a mean dig!)

Yeah, but that doesn't mean I'm not gonna bitch and moan about it. :pac: :pac:

What's this "list" you speak of? I thought everyone just bought things on impulse nowadays? :pac:

Not really. I suppose if you find an unlocked lecture theatre that isn't being used, you could try there!

There are plenty, the various labs around the college being one example. Even the common room is quiet enough during the week.
