Er, that's a Escort Twin Cam, one of the best variants of the Mk1, not the average 1100 sewing machine. If it's as clean as it's advertised as and is genuine with history, there is guys that will pay money like that for it.

    Not saying I would though!!:D

That's what the seller reckons too :)

Imagine what fabulous cars one could buy for £65k and then decide to spend it all on a Ford Escort?

Investment is why people buy cars like that and those people also probably have £65k road cars too.

I know where is a van for sale in wexford if your interested?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,756 ✭✭✭ianobrien

Ya, that car is at least £35k overpriced.

I've seen them for sale at the £25k mark for good clean ones. Concourse one can make a bit more but that one seems to be two different shades of white on the LHS:confused: Also, RS1600 & RS1800 are generally more expensive.

As for the rarest Escort, try to buy one of the two red RS1800 road cars!

They can run to a lot more than that these days.

A fully sorted rally car with a BDA or Millington engine can get close to STG£100000.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rZkDQA6Gss

That's a copy car with a modern Zetec engine. I've seen the (only) original RS1800 in factory red. I've also run behind it on a spirited drive in Cumbria. It's virtually priceless at this stage.

It's the only remaining red car, but there were another 2 built. The show car which is replicated in that video and a press car which was actually written off outside Newry.

A real rs1800 is hard to find. Big money. Same with an rs1600 and Twincam. The chaps who made that video have new escorts up all the time and they are asking top dollar for them! In fact, they're asking for 35k for a mexico right now.

Almost everyone in the mk1 forums go nuts when they see an rs1600/tc offered up for 45k+ yet a mex is worth 35k?

The AVO registrar mentioned a while back that they have less than 40 twincams on the road, and less than 500 accounted for of the 800 odd that were made. 65k is the minimum a car in that condition should go for imo.

Haven't heard many complaints about RS1600s but I did see a Mk1 RS2000 up for £45k a few weeks back. It sold, whether it was for that price or half of it I don't know!

I've seen a few with rs1600's, but more so Twincams even tho there are far less of them.

If the rs2000 was done by those lads, it probably did go for around that, probably 5k off - you know how it goes. 25k+ for a mexico is a bit much for me.

    Here's that mex for 35k.

It goes to show what a piece of paper + genuine period parts does for the value of a car. In fairness to that car - it is stunning!

I'm pretty sure KGF and the likes are the reason RS values have skyrocketed so much lately

They definitely are part of it. I'd say "for the love of cars" doing a Mexico episode is also a factor...

However, I feel the main reason is people in the scene see these KGF escorts going for 20k maybe 3-4 years ago and thinking that their crooked escort they bodged together is worth the same money when its really about a 10k car, but they actually get the 20k. Then KGF look at the state of those cars and raise their price because people are willing to spend 20k on a poorly build car. Lather, rinse, repeat!

There's guys out there with replica Mexicos asking for more than actual Mexicos, they too are selling well, the mind boggles!

Having said that, you're looking to come out at 20kish for a Mexico, double that for an rs1600/tc. A TC project will set you back 16k(gbp) before any work has even started on it, cant quote for an rs1600 project - I've never seen one come up.

40k rs2000.. Not even clean or straight.

More than double that for an RS1600 these days I reckon

That orange RS doesn't look too bad to me although a bit overpriced. The stripes are far from the right shape though.

A good rs1600 will easily run into 45,000 euro to build.

40k sterling for an rs2000 is theft
