Well lads, just out of pure curiosity has any of the reserves that are attested been caught up in any of the riots in dub ( and else where in the country) and did ye get any special training..Im also fully aware we have a tactical riot squad, just curious to what extent reserves got caught up in the mess
Mightnt be the best thing to talk about on an open forum.
    Only my opinion!

You won't find answers to that in here brotherrabbit. Seriously, just phone Garda Reserve HQ and ask them about any training-related questions you would have & sur you could ask, seen as you'd have them on the phone, ask them your first question also.
They are not questions for here!

    Thanks,
    kerry4sam

Okay, no bother. In future though remember that all specific training-related queries go straight to either to our Training Sergeants in Templemore or to Garda Reserve office in HQ.

    Thanks,

Yep i would say so, but as the report is now finished, i would very much doubt anything will come of that, as they cant even implement the report that is finished, what hope is there of implementing this, i suppose too hope's Bob Hope and No Hope :D

The review of the organisation will be taken very seriously, as will it's recommendations. Station closures are only a small part of the 'response'!

The Review and the report is finished, and there finding where published, now getting them fully implemented is another kettle of fish, as they say no money for the meter!

    Link to the published report?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55 ✭✭westcoastboy

it is not published yet.... so no link, the country is broke, the Garda Unions would be livid , demarcation, and all that..can't blame them, this time...

Give the Reserves powers, after all no court appearance needed.

we're sworn members, more use if a row breaks out, we can be told to F**k off and can do feck all about it.. PO powes would be usefull for all conserned.

i don't want to be doing major paperwork... not paid for same...get civilians in to do passports and no tax for cars off the road, don't be tying up full timers with this...

we as "Stakeholders" should have been asked our opinion to put into the report, didn't happen as far as i can remember.

I'll let everyone know how I get on on Saturday, and for anyone else who is in the process behind me, best of luck. For those of you who are already reserves can you let me know how the experience is going for you so far?

I've copied the above part of this post in here for people to answer this if they so wish in here. The full post will stay where it was posted originally.

    ...

What is it you would like to know our experience about?
    - our interactions with our units on-duty?
    - our experience on-duty mixing with members of other units?
    - our experience on-duty outside of the station & with the general public?
    - our experiences off-duty where we might encounter something that we are not 100% sure how to deal with or handle?

If you could be more specific, it might help
    Thanks, :)

To my own class from February this year, I hope you're all getting on well out there, staying positive in the midst of any negativity & that you are all doing better than I am with your 'portfolio' and matrix :)

I don't know if anyone read a particular news paper today. Anyway I will continue...A family who helped to put some members of a notorious Limerick family behind bars, has had their 24 Hour Armed Garda protection removed. The reason we all know..CUTBACKS. Didn't the justice minister state that lives would not be in danger following these cutbacks?

This family was aware of the danger posed to their lives yet still acted as a witness for the state. I think it an absolute disgrace, that these incredibly honest people, put their lives in line for society and this is the way they are rewarded.

2 interesting points are to come out of this. Number (1) The governments program of Austerity and in particular their fondness of cutting Garda services is having a detrimental impact on the force. Number (2) it will deter future witness for the state to come forward. If these people are not offered protection in return for their evidence, why would the bother?

What lies in store for An Garda Siochana?

    Happy Christmas folks.

People should not believe everything they read in papers, its called hearsay, Chinese whispers.

    Pal,

The family went to the papers because of the cuts. Not the papers going to them. No rumours, no hear say and no Chinese whispers. If you read the story, instead of giving a premature opinion you would not have come out with the above statement.

The force is suffering because of the governments persistence to cut Garda funding year in year out. My sympathies lies with the force, and we the people who depend on it for their service.

    Hi,

I've copied these posts over into this thread. It is the News thread on our main ES forum where this story would be more suitable.

    Thanks,
    kerry4sam
