But are you not a qualified electrician? Surely they would be right in assuming that if/when the economy picks up you f*** off and start wiring overpriced houses again?
    Ps. I'm in

i never worked in house bashing, i worked on the industrial/ commercial side of things and honestly if i was givin the oportunity to go back doing it vs the eircom job i would grab the eircom job with both hands, security being the main thing for me, your guarenteed nothing as an electrician, yor like a mercenarie, just a number to a large contractor when come friday you could be dropped with only a couple of hours notice

the eircom job is a golden ticket:o

Would it be fair to say so that they are looking for people with very little or no qualifications for these vacancies?

one thing i did make clear is that i wanted to "progress" within the company and this would be a great opportunity to do so

As did I. But they weren't quick to reply with something along the lines of "You do realise that will take time and alot of hard work and commitment before any progression can be made"

I made it as clear as possible that I was 100% committed - and have been to anything I've done and by my past work experience they could see I'm an exceptionally hard worker. I used to be a manager and they hinted that I might find it difficult working alongside people now and taking orders from those above me. But I let them know that to be a successful manager it is imperative to always work with your staff as a team and not think you're above anyone so they seemed happy with that!

But on the other hand that commitment issue that has been mentioned here doesnt have to be about us. From reading any comments it simply strikes that everyone here would commit to that job.

On the other hand someone mentioned here that there were lads who were just looking for a quick survival job and then carry on somwhere else when it gets better. Possibly there was more people like that

I was very commited on my interview.

Did anyone get a call sayin that they were not selected? If not stop stressing guys because it won't do ya any good, if the oppertunity arises well and good if not, not all is lost next year they will most likely recruit as they are restructuring eircom majorly

Yea they said they will run it either next year or the year after and every couple of years after that. The ones who get in this year will have the best chances of promotion as they will be the most experienced when the ones that are there at the minute begin to retire.

im gonna say what i myself wouldnt want to hear

i reckon most of the final interviewes that were sent to eircom by the recruitment company were not what eircom wanted, even if they did ask for "the best people"

so they have instructed the recruitment company to review the assesment stage looking for a different "type" of canditate.

so i reckon alot of people were getting 2nd chance phone calls for the interview and thats why interviews are ongoing,

maybe people who have a little experience and would be less likely to be a liability to eircom as in not commited, leaving at the drop of a hat sort of thing,

    jus my 2 cents
