JHW is persona non grata. He's only contracted until December. Not sure the story behind it but I know he has had one or two discipline problems in the past. Tom Sexton is a better bet at this point. White and Shaw are there and fit but, unlucky for us, both play tighthead which is one of only a couple of positions where the incumbent hasn't suffered an injury. Shaggy discussed his injury on RTE tonight and said, whilst he's making progress, it's coming along very slowly.

yeah, have heard plenty about JHW that I don't think I'd like to post on here, and would probably report if I saw posted. He seems to have the wrong head for his talents.

I know this has been raised before but does anyone know the story with Ed O'Donoghue? His pic is gone from the Leinster site and, even with the injuries, there is no sign of him in the squad. I assume he's left but he seemd a decent player. He just seems to have disappeared.

    It's like an X-Files episode.

Great quote from Schmidt: 'I'd play myself if I wasn't so scrawny and useless.'

That's a pity about JHW. A waste. Hopes he gets his ahead screwed on and gets a chance somewhere else.

If you google him you'll see one or two things

Harris-wright is contracted to Leinster until Christmas, Tom Sexton is due back by then so Leinster would be looking at Strauss, Cronin, Dundon & Sexton as their hookers.

Both Harris-wright and Dundon are with my club Clontarf, Dundon is a top qaulity player, a stand out at AIL level and has the ability to step up (he's probably beefed up a bit more since getting his Leinster deal)

i havent seen as much of Harris-wright but i guess he was tied up more with Leinster last season, even when available he's been sub behind Dundon. Remember seeing JHW playing AIL for greystones 4 seasons ago as an 18/19 year old and thinking this guy would play for ireland...time for him to step up play regularly at AIL this season and hope his talent shines through to get a pro deal next season.

Fresh from captaining Dublin to the All Ireland, Bryan Cullen has been appointed strength and conditioning coach for Leinster's academy. Interesting appointment. I know he's highly qualified technically in the area and is completing his PhD currently so hopefully it works well. It's interesting to see them breaking the mould and a GAA man moving across to rugby coaching.

Never any harm in a bit of cross fertilisation

Cheika has a GAA man over in France with him in a fitness role. I hope this guy does a good job Dublin GAA is a very fit outfit so I hope he can train our academy lads well

The Leinster fan in me says they should have gone for whomever is responsible for managing the Dublin teams fitness.

The Dublin fan in me says, get the feck outta here and find your own people!

Great signing. Think he can slot straight in at 12 too.

Doing some research (snooping) and I see Cullen has already spent the last year in a similar role with Blackrock RFC. His PhD was based on the development and conditioning of adolescent athletes and he is also a certified coach with the Irish Weightlifting Association as well as certified conditioning coach with the IRFU.

Seems his CV is fairly tailor made for a role in conditioning young rugby players.

Does the GAA allow him to associate with rugby teams?

Those lads in Dublin GAA are very fit, and amateurs at that. If pros were given that regime they'd be ridiculously fit.

I'm fairly sure that rule is gone a while now Tolosenc. Didn't Shane Geraghty give rugby a go for a while with Buccaneers.

While he is a Dublin player his isn't a Dublin coach (at least I don't think so anyway) so the fitness levels of the Dublin players wouldn't be down to him. The Blackrock guys would be a better indication.

If his PhD is in what GerM say's then that is a pretty good appointment.

Is that where he was talent-spotted by London Irish? Think you may mean Graham Geraghty, Cat...

Rule 27 is the one in question, you could be thrown out of the GAA for even attending a 'foreign' game, let alone playing one, abolished in 1972 (I think).

Cullen would have had no input into Dublin's coaching alright, but he'll have picked up some useful techniques and hopefully have taken a keener interest than most given his educational background. Could be a good signing for the Academy.

Shane Geraghty did indeed give rugby a go. It hasn't really worked out too well but he seems determined to stick with it. Not only that, but Graham Geraghty gave it a crack also. :p

Stephen Kelly, the Limerick footballer, is a winger with Shannon's AIL side too. The rule was abolished back in the seventies. There's a load of dual players, Mick Galwey being the most obvious and famous one.

I think the fact that he has the PHD in the area that he does would make him absolutely perfect for this role in the academy. Great appointment.

For those too lazy to search themselves

    http://www.braypeople.ie/news/judge-dismisses-charges-against-young-rugby-star-1394935.html

However I can't find anything else, links anyone?

Cullen was a handy rugby player in school and played in the local school to Senior cup level.
He has been in DCU studying under Dr Niall Moyna for a number of years Primary degree in Sports Science and currently doing a PHD. Moyna has been working with the Dublin squad the last couple of years on fitness and conditioning so Cullen has been studying in the right department. Moyna was also heavily involved in the Siegerson cup teams which Cullen captained when winning a few years back.
The PHD is based on improving the physical conditioning and preparation of elite adolescent Gaelic players
He coaches an u-11 foorball team in Skerries Harps.
IMO great coup for Leinster and a perfect fit in the role developing the sub academy. Leinster Rugby have proven themselves to be one of the top sports organisations in the world to develop their own players and no doubt Cullen while adding to the mix will also learn a lot and no doubt move up in the world whether in rugby GAA or another sport.
    Wish him all the best.

    So I was thinking...

Sonny Bill has no contract after the World Cup.

If we got say 10,000 Leinster fans who wanted him (let's face it, who doesn't?) to chip in €100, that's like $1.5 million, plus IRFU contract money could make it up to $2 mil, and then throw in the: "You wanna win trophies, you play for us" line.

    Long shot?

    Am I deleriously tired?

In fairness the Munster jersey would suit him better..........;)

although I wouldn't be surprised if David Humphries has a deal wrapped up already :p
