What has opinion got to do with it? Drugs are either dangerous or they're not - it's a fact or it isn't. The fact is: some drugs are, some drugs aren't - and there are variables to take into consideration: e.g. the quantity and the health of the person taking the drug. I'm not advocating drug use, but I don't see the point in posting fallacies.

Ok not all drugs will kill you, but none of them could be considered good for one's health could they?

Look you aren't going to get me to say drugs are in any way ok to take because that's not been my experience with people on them.

No, she was far from a genius. I wouldnt put her up there with the Einsteins and Hawkings of this world. Would you?
You do realise the word genius does not refer only to people of great intellectual ability?

I once heard of a 27 year old woman who died from drowning. Should nobody go swimming now?

When there are warning signs saying "Danger. No Swimming"

    I should think they shouldn't.

Be interesting to know how many people actually knew of the 27 club before today...

Ah come on, Winehouse had a great voice...but nothing about her music was genius.

Should never refer to people like Amy Winehouse either

Yeah but it doesn't apply to Ms Winehouse in any way.

I'm talking about illegal drugs obviously.

But perscription drugs could be bad for you too if you overdid it with them.

Look obviously people think I'm just being holier-than-thou about this but I don't like the idea that this can happen and people are still happy to support drug use and play it down, thats all.

Why is everyone being like, 'Oh the situation in Norway is far sadder!'

Anyone dying is sad. I feel sorry for people who only seem to be able to be physically saddened by one awful event at a time.

Probably because the people in Norway didn't put the bullets in their own body.

Drugs in my opinion are dangerous and if this encourages more people to stay away from them then something good will have come from it.

I know this sounds obvious but drugs aren't dangerous in and of themselves. It's not as if they will attack innocent bystanders.

It's how people consume them that is dangerous. Also, how they are deemed illegal is potentially dangerous for the consumer and supplier in that they can be kidnapped and lose their liberty for what is in essence a victimless crime.

There should an investigation into how the woman drowned and whether all people who enter water have a high susceptibility to drowning or other incidences causing serious harm. Then a decision should be made as to whether people should be recommend to avoid swimming or not.

Oh yes, and then we can create a bureaucratic super structure and have loads of 'experts' and 'professionals' cream the tax payer so we can control people who choose to swim. ;)

Hardly. What has happened here is a young woman has died of a what I can only assume is a drugs overdose.

Whislt its sad to hear a young life passing away, it doesnt mean people have to instantly like the individual, or instantly change their opinion on their music.

In terms of you speaking of perspective, the death of young woman overdosing on drugs, to me is little significance to other stuff happening in the world. I guess for me personally more so considering I didnt find her music entertaining or enjoyable and found the whole onsomble around here a circus.

I can see this turning into another instance of that irish model that OD'd on coke and died, and all of a sudden we are supposed to open our hearts for sympathy and appreciate the individual ....

Realisticly what should happen is that people who have no interest dont post but sure its boards that rubbish, and post like the above would always go away unchallenged.

And also in terms of perspective, I'd ask some perspective be taken in terms of the individual that has died. Being labelled " the best talent in the past ten years" and naming her in the same line as Hendrix, Cobain and Morrison, is fishing for thanks imo.....

As someone also mentioned, its poor that this topic will now dominate the news for the next few days and other, more drastic and impacting news will be cut short....

But as someone also mentioned here, the world is more interested in celebrity culture so I guess I'll just have to flick channels : /

This woman's music has greatly enriched my life over the last few years and I think the invasion of her privacy and bad press she recieved in the tabloids has ultimatley led to this tradgedy.
I'm not asking you to suddenly pretend you loved her music, just please don't be so disrespectful. OK?
Yes the irony of that poster using the term perspective is quite amusing.

I'm glad you find it amusing. You should be ashamed of yourself.

I'm talking about illegal drugs obviously.

    being pedantic here but... http://www.mdma.net/misc/liftingtheveil.html

anyway, once again, i just think theres a huge difference between use and abuse, although the line between the two can be very vague for some people

No, ditto lots of legal things.

I'm not trying to. But saying recreational drug users could wind up like Amy Winehouse (if it's drugs that killed her) is like saying people who go out drinking could wind up like George Best.

Most people are enraged at celebrity culture. Her death could possibly grab more headlines tomorrow than the other tragic events that happened this week. Shameful.

Great talent with a brilliant voice but i have no sympathy for people who constantly put harmful drugs into there body without making a serious effort to kick the addiction.

    R.I.P Amy

You can wreck your body swimming.

Yeah you can if you're a shit swimmer. Taking drugs (more so the drugs she was on) is getting hooked on something dangerous and extremely addictive and slowly, and purposely killing yourself. Swimming isn't. swimming is waddling around in fucking water. If you can't swim then purposely jump into the sea, you're an idiot. You knew the risks. Same with heroin. You know the risks involved and deserve what you get.

Saying that, it doesn't make her death any less sad. It is sad. Just don't defend what she was doing.

A sad end to arguably a very sad life. If there is an afterlife or a heaven, I hope she finds peace there.

It's a bit shocking that her father found out from the news. It's also shocking that this thread has more replies in three hours than the oslo thread - about 91 people being killed in a massacre - had in most of yesterday. We humans are strange natured folk.
