Nearly 100 people died in Norway yesterday, 11 died in a train crash in China today. Those people deserve sympathy, RIP threads and news coverage. Sadly, id wager a decent sum of money that there will be a tiny mention of the Chinese train crash on the news tonight whereas Amy Winehouse will get at least 10 minutes of people saying she was a "troubled genius"
Human nature to pay more attention to recognised individuals rather than anonymous ones (for those who didn't know them) - doesn't mean people are saying the Norway and China tragedies aren't horrifically sad.

A 27 year old woman is dead thanks to those wonderful mind opening substances after years of them destroying her.

    That's how its twisted.

I once heard of a 27 year old woman who died from drowning. Should nobody go swimming now?

    Anyway RIP Amy.

It's an absolute disgrace that that some people on here are making light of the passing of this troubled genius who was badly in need of help.

Can people not just show their respects and post something nice like R.I.P?

For Christ's sake people get some perspective here, it's not too much to ask, is it? IS IT?

So, I have to choose who I feel sympathy for? And because other stuff happened that means others are less deserving of sympathy? WTF is going on with your logic?

I think he's just saying that so many people died in China and Norway, yet those news stories were pushed aside by Amy's passing. I guess that's just the celeb-crazed world we live in. News stations are more concerned with what will get them more viewers etc

Just heard this now. Beautiful day outside and all is good.

F*** etc etc regardless of what you thought of her music, lifestyle, etc its a terrible waste of talent. Sad sad loss of one so young with so much done but more importantly ahead of her. Long sad list she adds to with Morrisson, Cobain, Gaye, Hendix, Holly, etc too early for such departures.

RIP and condolences to her family and loved ones

Back to black Amy, sleep well

    That's a completely different thing'.

Drugs in my opinion are dangerous and if this encourages more people to stay away from them then something good will have come from it.

Would you include alcohol in that too?

I don't know about that, actually. I can understand why people would feel little sympathy for her given how she lived her life. Many people struggle daily with fair greater 'demons' than Winehouse but don't give in to drugs and debauchery.

In any case, we still don't know what happened - so as I already said, it's probably best not to speculate.

I love how people act as though drug or alcohol addiction is something people should just 'get over' and that they deserve no sympathy. If you really think it's as simple as getting over it, then you really have no clue about what the reality of addiction is. I have great sympathy for anyone who falls into an addiction trap. It's a mental disease. I also have to laugh at the people who will berate someone like Amy Winehouse for having an addiction problem, but then in the same breath proclaim their admiration for someone like Kurt Cobain, who also signed his life over to drugs and probably would have drugged himself to death if he hadn't blown his own brains out.

Everyone has issues. Addiction is a terrible disease, and famous or not, some level of sympathy should be offered to people who can't get out of it. Personally, I think Amy Winehouse was probably surrounded by leeches who didn't give a f*ck about her, and just wanted to feed off her wealth and celebrity. Her ex-husband for one, admitted he introduced her to hard drugs, and I think he and others like him who found their way into her life probably set her down this path that has led to this very untimely death. It's a real shame, she had incredible talent, but seemingly no self-control. She isn't the first musician with this problem and won't be the last unfortunately.

there were other absolute disgraces during her lifetime.

Perspective indeed- now if stephen Hawking was dead....

In fairness she has not done much for music so you cant compare her to the rest of the 27 club. They were all hugely talented and revolutionary people in music. She had a few good songs.

    Drugs are dangerous
Really misinformed and vague statement. Which drugs? In what quantities?

Wouldn't make sense anyway for a person to keep away from MDMA because of hearing someone died of a heroin overdose - IF that's what happened...

Post a link to a 'genius' recording of hers please because all I ever heard was a nostalgic pop singer with a big voice.

There should an investigation into how the woman drowned and whether all people who enter water have a high susceptibility to drowning or other incidences causing serious harm. Then a decision should be made as to whether people should be recommend to avoid swimming or not.

Of course she did.....that's how addicts behave. Anyone who works with them and those who have recovered will tell you that.

Im fully qualified in the area and i still dont agree; i still think she had alot more help than the average person with 'demons' like hers. to say she didnt get the help she needed isnt true IMO, she just didnt want it. unlike many people struggling with addiction who actually do want it but cant get it.

im not saying she deserved it or any other comment along those lines, i just didnt agree with your statement that she didnt get the help she needed, she was offered it on a plate, she just didnt accept it.
