Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    Hi
    Does anybody know what the works being carried out at Clonsilla are?
    Could it be parking and new footpaths which are long overdue?

    There's a post on the RUI forum that says this from the planning permission
    The development will consist of the construction of a new footbridge with a full accessibility compliant stairs, lifts, fencing and associated site works.

    They also mentioned construction of a third platform which would allow M3 trains to terminate there without blocking the mainline.

    “To ask the Manager how much money has been granted by the National Transport Authority (NTA) to Fingal County Council, for the Clonsilla Station Improvement Scheme, to outline the extent of the works, whether it will involve pay and display parking in Porters Gate or just works to the Hansfield and Clonsilla Roads and to estimate when it will go to tender and when works will commence?”

    REPLY:
    Approval was received in February 2011 from the NTA for the construction of the Traffic Management Scheme at Hansfield Road, Clonsilla.. and the associated Portersgate Estate Parking Management Scheme. The Hansfield Road scheme provides for the provision of parking places along both sides of the road, the signalization of the Hansfield road/Clonsilla Road Junction and associated footpath and cycle track work. The Portersgate Scheme provides for the introduction of short term Pay and Display Parking within the Estate. The approval was in the sum of €950,000.

    Tenders were received 04/04/2011 and work is planned to commence in June 2011 with the works being well scheduled to be completed in December 2011
    no mention of a foot bridge though so am wondering if that is part of the plans at all.

    sure, why would the public want to know how THEIR cash is being spent.
    (well, as a german taxpayer myself its actually my cash borrowed in the name of the Irish taxpayer/ people who are under the MASSIVE tax allowances, but anyhow!! )

    That refers to the work outside the station itself.

    The footbridge referred to above is to be installed on the station platform itself and is the subject of Iarnrod Eireann's own station improvement works including the provision of a bay platform for M3 off-peak services to use as a turnback facility.

    but that was sort of my second point.

    Irish rail gets 100s of millions of euros of subsidies from the public purse yet is transparant as mud about what is planned/ other figures on spending.

    For the amount of public cash they process and digest you would think that such projects like a bridge possibly(/ probably) costing bonkers money - maybe 5million + including lifts and other stuff that makes public contracts so exorbitantly expensive - that information like that would be freely available to the public to inspect.
