It should show 3 tuners? The two sat tuners, and a third (C) for DTT stick.

Thanks for the very fast response, but i just figured it out about 2 mins after i posted this (when i said 2 tuners i meant 2 nova t tuners as-well as the 2 sat tuners) the channel list was set to satellite only and i changed it to all and found all the channels, feel fairly stupid now! I'm totally new to all this so sorry about wasting your time.

Have been messing around with the box today and am very impressed with it, was able to mount a one of my shared hard drives over the network very easily and am able to stream live tv to my win 7 laptop with windows media center, have tested a lot of my movie files mostly avi's and they play pretty well over the network.
my only problem at the moment is that the epg on the soarview channels is incomplete only showing certain listings with gaps in between. I have tested the usb tuner in win media center and the complete epg appears with no gaps.

i have installed the latest vix image and have updated it.

    Am i missing something?

Unfortunately RTE changed something in how the EPG is broadcast recently, it only affects some receivers/software. You can workaround it in VIX...disable EIT in the EPG setup, and use RytecUK as your EPG source.

sorry for being a pain in the ass, but how do you do that? i've searched for where to disable it and found this "vix 2.2
    menu > setup > sysyem > epg > settings > enable EIT -- set to yes/no

i am running vix 2.1.4 and got to step 3 system but there is no epg there.

i've set it to no and saved it, how do i use RytecUK as my epg source?

should i upgrade vix to 2.2?

    How?

    I did the following...
    Menu-Setup-System-EPG-CrossEPG
    XMLTV Providers
I Chose Rytec UK XML TV
    Downloaded etc
    Still have no DTT EPG

When people say, use RyTec, can you please be specific. Rytec feature all over the shop. Which providers group? which region ? etc

I just went into the plugin menu and selected the epg importer, and then pressed the blue button which is source and a list of epg sources came up and RyTec uk was down at the bottom so i selected that and rebooted the box and it working fine now.

    hope this helps

Were are in the same areas just using different routes. You are looking at xmltv, there are 2 rytec uk's there, I presume you are using rytec's uk xmltv. What about xepgdp providers? and why do you suppose that there are separate menus for updating rytec providers and updating xepgdp providers yet the xepgdp providers group includes rytec entries.

The entire epg system on this image is so over engineered, overdone, complex and so confusing it's scary. I've never really understood it or truly knew where I was with it.

Next try, some success as follows

    Menu-Setup-System-EPG-Settings
    Enable EIT EPG - No
    CrossEPG-XEPGDB providers
Choose Rytec UK XMLTV (xepgdp repacked)
After a download and re-check of EPG, I seem to have DTT epg info now.

However there is a new issue, the epg data seems to have extra info such as "season 1 episode 4" or -T or -R tags appended to it. This is great except it's too verbose and belongs in the description rather than title. The result is that title data gets squashed in it's event box. So you have to elongate the epg screen or make the fonts smaller. It makes the epg harder to read. A small issue but nonetheless an issue.

A friend of mine is thinking of getting a Duo but I was telling him there's a new model coming soon. I can't find details on it now though (within this thread?) Any help? And any idea when it's coming?

The Vu Uno will be the first released, not much different to the Solo so ive been told, the big one is the Vu Ultimo which is no different to the Duo so ive heard except for 3 tuners instead of 2.

The big thing is the price and ive heard the Ultimo is going to be around €600!

But all this is what ive read on other forums, so it may be all wrong!
    :D

    Found this also

    VU+ Ultimo

    Chipset BCM7413
    CPU(MHz) 400
    RAM (Hopefully) 512
    FLASH 1GB
1x Tuner fest, 2x Wechsel Tuner
    CI x2
    Smartcard x2
    USB 3xUSB 2.0 (einer mit 5V)
    FAN ja
    Internal HDD 2.5", 3.5"
    WLAN (USB) nein
    Ethernet ja
    Display VFD/OLED

    Remote Universal

Looks like the Duo is the one to stick with for now then.

You have to wonder why the equivalent of a very low spec pc with a couple of tuners (can be bought for single figures on ebay) is so expensive

That's the argument you had before you bought your duo! :D

You can't compare a STB and a PC on MHz/RAM amounts alone, they're completely different architectures. I've a 2GHz PC here, with more RAM than the duo, but it can't decode HD material recorded on duo.

I don't think you could buy an off the shelf PC with similar capabilities to the duo. Even building one yourself for €450 would be a challenge...compact case, single quiet fan, remote, OS, VFD, tuners, it all adds up.

I know it's frustrating when things don't work as they might, on whatever image you choose to use, but there would be similar glitches and incompatibilities on a PC, and I'm not disputing that the duo/ultimo are expensive in relation to other STBs, but I think they are good value in comparison to HTPCs.

Might be a bit soon, could you try making them yourself with gimp or whatever image editor you use? either that or there is a wonderful forum here - http://www.world-of-satelite.com where the lads are the nicest and most helpful bunch you'll ever meet. Now I must get back to the silage

aw you are a special little guy too lol but seriously only bit of banter.

on a side note the ultimo looks promising but at the suggested prices floasting around the net at mo i dont see the value over a vu+ duo with usb dtt tuner. the uno alright would be an improvement over the solo in that it has a display and hdd enclosure internally.

I'm just wondering, and further to earlier posts of mine...

Couldn't you get a second hand pc, say P3 or P4, couple of gig ram, whatever HDD, no monitor, if it has a PCI Express slot then get a video card with HDMI, or else get a PCI version. Get a couple of pci tuners off ebay.

Now for the above, I reckon, at a push <€100. Now all you have to worry about is software and remote control. Is Linux or whatever not free? Or maybe a copy of Windows media centre, what's that - 100 quid?

Now for the remote control, perhaps there are usb / IR solutions for the pc, and for the user at the high end the likes of a Harmony one.

I'm sure with combining and convergence of old tech, you could build your own system for way less than 600 quid. Now I could be totally wrong, but possible?

I have scanned and found sat channels from my existing sky dish, but the only channels i can watch are bbc 1 & 2, all the other channels that are fta i.e channel 4, e4, itv etc are just blank when i try and watch them. Am i doing something wrong?

Are you sure you're not recording something on another BBC channel at the same time?

I'm not recording anything, cnn and qvc are working too but blank screen on every other channel when i scroll through the channel list there is what looks like a signal bar next to the channels i can watch but all other channels have nothing next to them, and when i select um all i get is a blank screen.

Did you do an automatic scan, or did you get bouquets from somewhere in this(or other) thread?

If you got the bouquets from somewhere else, the channels may have moved transponder since they were scanned.

go to the fta tuning guide in the satellite forum, and manually tune an itv channel, and check the last tuned bouquet.
