Felix Jones had a great game against Leinster, bright future ahead. May be too late for his World Cup hopes though..

all depends on Kearney's and Geordan Murphy's fitness i suppose. Jones has been fantastic for us in last few months. Has brought a lot more threat to Munster's back line, is assured under the high ball and is a very good tackler.

His link-play with Earls has to be considered too. The Munster back 3 have really clicked well together recently. I don't think Murphy would travel ahead of Jones if fully fit; he has been poor this season and has never fulfilled his potential at international level.

I'd be shocked if Jones doesn't start one of the France games or the English match. I do think he'll be given his chance. He just needs to take it.

Not sure he has enough experience yet but it would be great for him to get at least a shot and even as a tackle bag the experience of that would help him improve.

If Felix Jones was to play international rugby like he plays in the ML then he could get a career ending injury.

Please don't be so unkind. Clowns are o.k. Not great but surely not deserving of this opprobrium.

You'd have to fear so but to be fair, I thought he improved over the last few games, in the sense he no longer looked like he was risking death every time he had the ball or made a tackler, now he's just reckless, maybe with some Irish coaching he'd make the level of fearless or brave.

Joking aside though, I hope he can stay on the right side of safety when he plays, last player I remember being as reckless as him was Flannery.

He did alright and its not that I don't think he's good enough to play for Ireland its just that I'd prefer to see him get a consistent run of ML games then make the next step to HC and finally Ireland. He still looks like a junior rugby player the way he carries the ball into contact but its is someting that can be worked out of him in time.

The SF and Final were surely H/Cup standard for intensity and he seemed to come through them rather well, I know one swallow and all that but I wouldn't have the same worries as you seem to have for the guy.

A pre season game at Thomond, that's a first for a while.

Would prefer it the other way around as I'd love to see Wasps as we had Irish this season but I suppose Irish must be basing themselves in UL for a few days.

    Munster Rugby Academy Update
    1 June 2011, 11:03 am
    By The Editor

With academy players Conor Murray, Mike Sherry and Simon Zebo already confirmed as fully contracted players for next season, first year academy hooker Sean Henry has also secured a development contract.

22 year old Henry will be joined by UCC prop John Ryan who most recently impressed for the Munster development side that were narrowly defeated by the Irish U20s in Musgrave Park.
Other players involved that day included sub academy players James Cronin, Niall Scannell, Duncan Casey, Cathal O’Flaherty, Shane Buckley and Cian Bohane, and all now advance into the Munster Academy for season 2011/12.
Garryowen’s Shane Buckley is currently involved in the Irish U20s squad with fellow academy player JJ Hanrahan as they prepare for their first game of the Junior World Cup against England on Friday the 10th of June in Italy.
The academy will return to training at the end of June.

    David Kilcoyne (UL Bohemians) Prop
    Luke O’Dea (Shannon) Fullback
    Ronan O’Mahony (Garryowen) Fullback/Wing
    Gareth Quinn McDonogh (Shannon) Outhalf
    Cathal Sheridan (UL Bohemians) Scrumhalf

    Duncan Casey (Shannon) Hooker
    James Cronin (Highfield) Prop
Cathal O’Flaherty (Cork Con) Second Row/Backrow
    Niall Scannell (Dolphin) Hooker

Pa O’Regan - for now opting to pursue other career options

Is Cathal Sheridan not leaving for Edinburgh?

With Sean Henry now on a development contract, maybe Denis Fogarty will have to go? Munster surely can't afford to have Flannery, Varley, Sherry, Fogarty and Henry on their books?

Any idea if this is a final list, Ormond? Coughlan and Quirke from the Clongowes SCT are notable by their absences. Quirke could well be only ready for the sub academy but I'd have thought Coughlan would be drafted straight into a professional set up from school. Would suggest he has accepted the Leinster offer if this is Munster's final selection. The number of spaces in the Munster academy is now at the same total it was last season with these incoming players.

no idea but it probably is correct if numbers are the same as last year though there is 1 mistake as sheridan is off to scotland, more players should be added to sub academy and maybe full academy in august

No sign of the Great White (centre) Hope, Diarmuid McCarthy?

Pa O'Reagan, leaving is that his choice or was Munster not offering him an extension, I thought he was one to look out for?

dont think they will be looking at him soon, was played for garryowen 2nds as much as the 1st team towards the end of the season. Didnt he not get involved in academy in previous years as he was not that interested in pursuing rugby full time

I heard there are some more players entering it so it hasn't been finalised yet.

Does anyone know about Fogarty's contract status. Munster have 5 hookers now and I reckon someone will have to leave to ensure Sherry and Henry both get good gametime.

Fogartys days seem numbered. He can't do the basics so I don't think he'll get many games next season. Varley isn't too far ahead of him in terms of throwing. Sherry has jumped to the top of the queue since Flannery has been out.

Well Flannery must be only one more injury setback from following Dowling and Murphy into a sad early retirement. But the "good news" is that Varley looks certain to be going to the World Cup. If Best/Cronin get injured then more "good news" is that Sherry will be a strong contender to replace them in the World Cup. I wouldn't be in a hurry to lose anyone from that list.

Agree re Flannery and it does look ominous tbh, but Varley going to the World Cup would hardly be good news for Ireland, he is very ordinary IMO and Sherry would be a far better option, he does everything better tbh and if either goes tio the world cup it will be as back up and I know which one Id prefer to bring into a game with 20 mins to go and it aint Varley.

It's more likely himself and Og Murphy are on short term summer training contracts, afaik that's how Cusack, Dineen and Scanlon got back into the system. If they impress they might get a training deal for next year, if they don't well Munster can't say they didn't try.

I remember watching him for Castletroy a few years back and thinking he would be the next big thing in Munster rugby.... pity he hasnt delivered on that potential...
