will the games be televised? :)

Not a chance of any of it being televised.

    Leinster "Well Knowns"

    Ruddock
    Ben Marshall
    McKinley
    Sheridan
    Ryan
    Ruddock eile
    Keating
    Hudson

Sorry I couldn't have more info, the weather was a real downer on trying to track anything more than the ball, and my brother was playing too, so selfishly wasn't too bothered either!

Woah fairly handy Leinster team there

Wow, that's a great victory considering the talent of that Leinster team.
The L lads probably didn't take it too seriously what with the Heineken Final etc, but still.

I really like the look of Gilroy. Taking aside the fact that he's scored a bucket load in the Magners this season. His U-20 form has been great. When he played full-back in this years 6-nations he was electric.

The Leinster lads were told that big performances = chance of a start next weekend. I know Ryan and Ruddock only played first half, and that this was part of their "test" for next week.

As an aside, Ben Marshall was excellent at 8 for Leinster, absolutely excellent. He's huge, and aggressive, and quick, with great hands. SOB and Heaslip's protege imo!

There was a fair bit of chopping and changing throughout the game, think the final score was 26-7, which might have flattered the Irish team somewhat.

One try was from a Macken break from midfield culminating in them going over in the corner, another from a period of 8/10 phases when one missed tackle gave an easy offload and a run under the posts for one of the Irish backs too. I didn't think it was Jackson playing 10, unless he's gotten taller and dyed his hair, but as I said, only saw the second half.

Wow, big statement. I hope you're right, I look forward to seeing him next year so.

    The wealth of young/talented back-rows in Leinster is comical. D.Ryan, R.Ruddock, S.O'Brien, C.Gilsenan, M.Keanrey, J.Murphy, B.Marshall, J.Coghlan.

Glad to hear Macken played well too.

Hopefully we can keep Marshall under wraps for 2/3 more years though. We'll struggle to keep all these guys, I'm already worried about Ruddock tbf.

Lots of last year's games in Argentina were on TV. Some of previous year's matches in Japan we shown on RTE.ie so hopefully we'll get to see some of the matches.

Oh the actual tournament I'd be very hopeful of seeing.

I meant the game at the weekend won't have any highlights posted anywhere or anything like that.

Martin Moore at tight-head (obviously injured) is a huge loss. Having said that huge potential in that back-line if the forwards can secure enough possession.

Good to see Connacht offering more and more players for representative rugby.

    V. surpised Mark Dolan hasn't made it. Speed of pass very impressive.

So much talent in that squad. Even if Martin Moore is out I thought the Ulster TH looked good in the 6N iirc. On a similar note, when did Findlay Bealham sign for Ulster? Thought he was an exile before?

It's mad to think Gilroy/Conway/Boyle/O'Halloran will all be competing for the back 3 places, and with Macken and Marshall in the centers there is huge potential for this team to score tries. Hope the forwards can compete with England/SA this time.

EDIT: Is Marmion a scrum half?

Yeah. He could be joining the Connacht academy next season.

according to a connacht poster on munsterfans, who also posts here
Kieran Marmion, Dave McSharry and Aaron Conneely have all
signed academy contracts for next season

I think Finlay Bealham plays for Belfast Harlequins and is consequently under the aegis of the Ulster Academy.

Any word on TV coverage for U-20 World Cup? I think Setanta did some matches last year.

I would expect either Setanta or Rte to cover the games. The first game against England will be on Sky Sports 4

I'm not sure if Setanta or RTE have arranged to screen games. Sky will be showing both the Ireland vs England game and the Ireland vs South Africa game. I believe the official site will be also streaming both of those encounters. I don't know of any broadcaster in this part of the world that is planning to show the Ireland vs Scotland game but there are broadcasters in other parts of the world that have every game live so I'm sure there will be an opportunity to view it online.

I've heard from a few people involved in the U20 teams that McGahan has demanded more Munster academy players be included to "balance things out". Pretty pathetic it has to be said and I hope his demands arent met and players are picked on merit and not what province they play for.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,592 ✭✭✭GerM

So what are we thinking for the starting team against England?

    15. Andrew Conway
    14. Tiernan O'Halloran
    13. Brendan Macken
    12. Luke Marshall
    11. Craig Gilroy
    10. Paddy Jackson
    9. Peter Du Toit
    8. Jordi Murphy
    7. Aaron Conneeley
    6. Shane Buckley
    5. Daniel Qualter
    4. Michael Kearney
    3. Conor Carey
    2. Niall Annett
    1. James Tracey

Very harsh on a few players and quite likely I'm wrong with a couple of calls there. Any other year Hanrahan, Kelly, Boyle and McKeon could be nailed on starters. I hope Jackson steps up and has a big tournament. If he can release those backs outside him we've a chance of taking one or two scalps. Marshall will be able to take a lot of pressure off him though and can give a second 5/8th option. Shame that injury has claimed some of the brightest stars but that's the case in a lot of seasons.

The England game is going to be a big ask. The likes of Ford and Farrell as their outhalf options are a cut above what we have and losing Moore is a blow up front. Their front five are absolute behemoths that are physically bigger than most senior outfits. We're going to need an absolutely colossus of a performance to match them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,978 ✭✭✭✭irishbucsfan

I think McKeon will play with Jordi Murphy at 7. Either way we have a great group of back row players and back 3 players to choose from. I think Boyle might nudge himself into the team ahead of O'Halloran.

A lot falls on the shoulders of Paddy Jackson I think. Time for him to step up a little imo. Marshall will take a lot of pressure off him though.

I've heard Sherwin complian about the youths squad. There were more exiles than Munster players even though Munster beat the exiles well. They might feel that theres goodMunster players that should be there. Cathal O'Flaherty springs to mind.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 155 ✭✭Jedwardian

I don't see why Mike Ruddock would refuse to pick Munster players if they're good enough. For years Connacht would have been considered the poor relation of the Irish provinces and gotten a raw deal when it comes to selection yet they've got twice the amount of players in the U-20s as Munster do. The lack of Munster players isn't due to bias, it's due to them not being good enough.

rather than munsters players not being good enough id say not developing quick enough. if it was an u21 team i always feel thered be more munster players. id start andy boyle ahead of ohalloran and drop peter du toit.probably spot on apart from that. luke mcgrath may be called up after he finishes his leaving cert
