According to Scrum.com Richie McCaw is about to sign a new contract to stay in NZ beyond the World Cup, so that just leaves Nonu and Conrad Smith for Munster - more affordable anyway. :D

You wouldn't get Mafi to sign it would ya? :pac:

Harsh, yes he has struggled for form and is partial to the odd brainfart, but he has had more centre partners than hot dinners and I thought he was excellent against Ospreys, wouldnt right Larry off yet tbh. What he needs is a regualr centre partnership.

Munster rugby have tweeted that they are giving out free car flags in their Rugby Stores in Cork and Limerick, also available in Thomond Park, not sure about MP. While stocks last.

Jaysus, sounds like they were snapped up. I was hovering around, in case they'd come up on general sale. :(

Ah well, might head to Limerick anyway and hope for someone to sell a ticket.

Not entirely correct, Leinster didn't take their full allocation.

To be fair, it was hard for the LB to guage the take-up, reading here last week it looked like no one wanted tickets then all of a sudden they were sold out. A bit like the MB not taking all their allocation to the Munster V Wasps game in LR a few years back.

They also allowed people to buy 6 tickets at a time.
Either leinster officials really underestimated the amount of interest in this match for their fans.
Or they are just extremly lazy and wanted to keep their minds on the HEC and not have to bother with ticketing the Magners final :P

Surely there will be a marquee signing in the center. Unfortunately J Murphy has played center a couple of times this season and may get significant game time there next season

Not much chance of major signing now for Munster I'm afraid. Keatley is pretty much it. Yesterday's result was a great one for Irish rugby but a disaster for Munster. The IRFU will be really tempted by the prospect of Leinster successfully defending the cup and joining Tolouse on 3 wins. Also any big names tempted to come to Ireland will want to be part of that at Leinster. At the same time the IRFU are faced with their nightmare scenario of Connacht in the HEC in the season after their talent was harvested for the other provinces. Some investment has to go back in there.

There simply will not be the resources to rebuild Munster. In fact we cant even rely on the young lads like Nagel, Barnes, Murray and Zebo as they will be high on the list to go to Connacht. Our only hope is that someone like JP McManus steps in to fill the gap.

The IRFU's shortsightedness in letting Keatley, Cronin and Carr leave will probably hurt Munster (though not as much a Connacht :()
Still the IRFU proved when they let Botha go to Munster that they do not want this brand to falter at all. They are still our second best shot at a HC and until yesterday the most widely known and watched Irish province.
Obviously none of us know the state of the IRFU's balance sheet but I think they will do their best to get a top center to Munster.

In fairness, what can they do? Those lads are not indentured slaves and if they want to leave Connacht, that is their right. I'd rather have them stay in Ireland then move to England or France. The IRFU can't dictate to players where they will play.

Players coming up from places like New Zealand will still want to be part of Munster.
They have heard about munster and followed them for years. One bad season dosnt destroy a reputation.
Munster have it in them to put in a serious fight for the HEC next season.

Surely the IRFU have enough money to pump into Munster? Do they not make a lot of money from Leinster winning the Heineken Cup and an Irish team winning the Magners? I don't think buying overseas players is the answer though. You're only covering over the cracks. They really need to develop the academy, and have some young players coming through. A lot of the players down there are getting on in years....ROG, Flannery, Wally, POC, DOC, John Hayes's career is as good as over. So who's coming through now that will be of the same standards if not better?

Fair point. But Im sure they could have seen persuaded. At least Cronin could have since he is getting picked in Ireland squads. There would be no persuading though.

The only thing any team needs to attract SH players is money.

We have been developing the academy, the improvement of the academy under mcgahan is a major success of mcgahans involvement with munster as previously kidney didnt really care too much about developing younger players. The academy has restructured and we should be seeing more players graduating from it sooner rather than later
Yes a lot of munsters top players will finish their careers within 1 or 2 years of each other that is why next season is so important and it is vital that during the WC lads like jj, dave foley, nagle all get plenty of games in the ML

It's not all about money, if it was Irish provinces would find it very hard to compete with French clubs, I reckon that Howlett, Cullen and Elsom would have got bigger bucks in France if they chose to head there instead of Ireland.

Didn't Elsom only come north because he got into debt? Yes other factors are going to play a small role but not much at all. If they did no one would be moving at all.

The money is definitely there to sign a big NIQ player. Leinster have probably made all their signings already and I've a feeling that we have a centre signed but, nothing has been and will be announced until WC squads are announced first.

He was released by his club or by the Australains to help him with his debt but why did he pick Leinster, had they the biggest purse?????

No but that doesn't mean we weren't among the highest bidders. Elsom played for Randwick too I think.

looks like Stephen Donald will be heading to Bath.
he has been heavily linked with Munster the past while.
