Can anyone please tell me where the Irish tradition, where you get 21 kisses on your 21st birthday, comes from??

Pervy 21 year olds. It's great to be 21! I'm passed it by a little bit, but it's a great tradition in my opinion.

It was the only way farmers sons got the chance of a brief clinch with a woman and not a sheep.

Good question though and I honestly have no clue, nor can recall any explanation for it.

Dont know but I have yet to be at a 21st birthday party where the kisses dont start to get scarce on about the 12th of 13th kiss.

You never been at a 21st where they sit the birthday boy/girl down on a chair and people literally form a queue to get their peck? Usually has a DJ counting them and some terrible music in the background.

My best mate is a good looking woman but on her 21st she stood at the top of the room like a lamb to the slaughter waiting for the 21 kisses. Her face had turned bright red and after about the 15th kiss nobody was going up to kiss her. It slowly dragged to 19 kisses and at this stage her face was a nice shade of beetroot so me and another mate went up to give her the last 2 kisses. I would not mind but her boyfriend was too busy getting pissed at the bar to even notice. The poor girl.

Cringe. That happend to a mate of mine. It was a stupid thing to do. It was in a quiet rural pub with a small crowd of mates. Like you said, after about 12, there was just his girlfriend left who was waiting to be the big 21st snog. Some people went outside to try to 'round up' some girls, all while my mate sat there like a tool. And worse again the DJ was playing that smoochy french duet song, aaagghh, can't think of the name of it). After some looking around and shoe shuffling the girlfriend had to get stuck in early. It was a disaster.

If anyone knows what song I am on about (all you mentalists out there), please tell me the name. The music is commonly used on jingles or tv ads where there is a bit of romance. A french guy singing and also a girl too. Kinda nice and kinda chessey. Slow tempo song.
