Only ever had a couple of dealings with the gardai id rate them average.
I would never socialize with them tough,or have a huge amount of respect for them.It takes a person with a sick mind to want to have authority over other people. As the old saying goes "Those who seek authority are usually the least suited for it"

Well judging by your words and general attitude, its clear you have a problem with the Gardi and by your brash (to say the least) postings, with others that the vast majority of the time, support them.
So I bid you bye. I chose not to converse with anyone with a disgusting attitude such as blatantly yours.
No words of anyone is going to change your obvious attitude. Continue to enjoy that chip on your shoulder.

    P.S. I ain't your pal!

No attitude here Buddy.....may I respectfully suggest that you were the one who started with the rolling eyes.

Apologies if I was a little blunt...there was no intention to offend...I have a lot of respect for the Gardai (note spelling) but as we all know, there is in the force - as indeed there is in every large organisation - a rump of obdurate and ignorant gimps who let the very considerable powers they at their disposal go to their heads and behave like little Hitlers at every opportunity.

This group tend in the main to be less well educated that most and are decidedly lacking in people skills.

That is the only point I was trying to make Buddy.apologies again if was a tad direct...

So if everyone felt like that there would be no policemen, just sick minded people. Such a sad post and such generalization.
I actually feel sorry for narrow-minded people who can speak like this.

 So you're telling me you wouldn't remember a pink car at a checkpoint you've been at before? Not only is the car pink but it also has a male driver? And I'm living in a town not a city. I have seen 1 other pink car around the town. If you think it's not memorable then you're kidding yourself. I stick out like a sore penis.

If the guards can't remember me from stopping me before then I'd seriously question their brain capacity. They are meant to be observant individuals.

Why has nobody asked the following question - why are you driving a pink ****ing car? You Stephen Ireland?

I was with you 100% until it all got a bit arrogant towards the end.

Narrow minded?I just think it is wrong for people to " apply" for a position of authority.People the community deem of good character should be selected and given the option to become guards. Its probaly safe to say me and differ on how society should be run.If i had my way there would be only four laws,no murder,no stealing,no damaging people property, and the big one No interfering with peoples free will. All the petty laws like pub opening times, drug possesion, ect are all just a hindrance on the people. Most people have a good sense of right and wrong, some dont ,most do.

Yes, yes of course that's what I was saying. With observational skills like that I'd suggest applying for detective. Just for the hard of reading: No I wasn't saying all members of the Gardai are knobends.

Are you afraid of the power of choice? If you think the law at the moment is on your side its not.The law is there to punish people, there is no such thing as justice for victims.Prisoners should be made work get paid a reduced rate from the minimum wage and give 85% of what they earn to the victims

You having a laugh? You've clearly never met that small section of society who for whatever reasons are just pure scum. They come from all backgrounds too. They just want to see things burn or they are actually psychopathic. Your choices would mean absolutely nothing to a person like that. Your idea is a manifesto for slavery to such people.

Have to agree here ..a significant rump of gardai are knobends.....the biggest knobends end up on the AGS.

Remember the Galway conference a couple of years ago......?

Yes but most crimes committed today are not actually real crimes its all social conditioning. Why anyone would would care to what people but in their body's is beyond me.I think slavery is a great deterrent to crime, they still get some money aswell.Losing your power of choice for a while will probaly make you think harder before you do it to anyone else again. If given half a chance i could transfer Ireland into a new Hy Brasil i have faith in my logic.

You implied with your general statement that all members of AGS are knobheads. I suggest you take your head out of your ass. What makes you think I would apply for a job as a detective? Things don't go right for you you throw abuse at other posters? Get a life....

ah yeah, but its like, would these people take such offence when a shopkeeper says, "so any plans for tonight?"..

The cops is trying to have a conversation to hear how people talk, to form an opinion on drink or drugs most likely. To not want to chat back is bizarre in the least.

I keep saying this but it just doesn't seem to register with some people. Unless you have something to hide there really is no excuse not to cooperate.

so, doesnt mean they have to enjoy it, they still do it! just be polite and chatty, ud be surprised how this disarms people.

I doubt if anyone on earth enjoys their job 100% of the time.

Nope I didn't and I quote "I have had some positive experiences". So how does that make it "all" in your mathematics?

Yea a lot of the questions they ask are to see if you have had a few. I dont see any big deal with it myself.

It would be more appropriate to breathalyse you to ascertain if you are under the influence than to be asking you questions about your personal life.

Exactly so you can't assume your experiences are indicative of people being stopped as a whole.

I'm sure the Gardai don't pick and choose who to stop, unless they're looking some-one or something in particular.

I have observed numerous checkpoints late at night. Taxis are always waved straight through and everyone else is stopped.
I even saw a checkpoint one night where a taxi didnt even slow down, he was sure he would be waved through

The problem is that even those who have had both positive and negative experiences don't seem to take the positive into account and only focus on the negative.

    Not saying you are mind.

Hmm, first time I ever experienced a checkpoint after moving here was in a taxi (it was somewhere like Donnybrook or Ranelagh). I was a bit pissed and didn't know what the hell was going on as we don't have checkpoints in England as a rule (there are exceptions, but its not common). I've got to say my hackles rise every time I come across a situation like this; I think its a particularly lazy way of policing.

True that. If they reduce the number of checkpoints they could increase the number of shíte Roadwars we sell to Sky and the likes.

A checkpoint to weed out drink/drugged drivers etc is by far more preferable to using a bucket of sand and a yardbrush to sweep the road clean after an accident.

It sure is. They could get themselves a decent computer system that can identify offenders and stop the 1950's approach to policing that they currently have.

I have not seen the type of carry on anywhere else in the world. The checkpoint is a uniquely Irish thing.
