I think Munster should and will let him go.

So there'll be some changes in next seasons squad:
    Dave Ryan
    Buckley
    Hayes (prpbably)
    Quinlan
    Tuitupou
    Barry Murphy (probably)
    Dowling

A few more to follow I'd say mainly because they're starting to trust the young players.
Add Warwick to the players heading out

It's not really but I get hen pecked for saying negative things about washed up players so I won't expand.

Yes it's harsh, in fact, it's so harsh it's worth calling you out on.

When playing for Munster, Murphy has given everything for Munster, to the point where his body has been continually shattered. Even before 2006 he fought incredibly hard just to get over injuries to play for Boh's. He has come back from injuries that would have certainly ended a career in the amateur era, and come back with the try scoring ability that marks him as a natural.

It's no one's fault that he just can't stay fit, least of all his. If that's the best support you can give to a Munster player you can take your support elsewhere, imo.

I hope it goes well for him in france, sadly he wasn't given the body to go with his talent.

So true, he scored some memorable tries, it's a real shame he can't stay fit. I hope playing in France goes well for him.

TOL and Johne Murphy are both in contention for this weekend, according to the Examiner.

I hope Murphy goes to France and can reignite his career. He was one of those players who I always had in the back of my mind as a player who just needed to go one more step to be a very good player... however time has gone on and I cannot believe he's 28. Best of luck to him if he is on his way

Theres not much happening in the rugby section today so I thought I'd speculate on next season. :D

Theres 3 props going. Did anybody see the Young Munster scrum destroy the Cork Con scrum? One of the YM props is in the academy so he might get some games next season. Who knows..

Sherry looks to have passed out Fogarty now and i think he can rival Varley soon enough. Flannery might have another season or two in him yet though!

I'd also expect to see more of Peter O'Mahony next season. Munster need more ball carriers and POM is good at that. Paddy Butler might have to wait another season although it depends on injuries too. Dave O'Callaghan could also make some appearances. DOC2.0 is a decent prospect.

I hope Axel Foley is able to turn things around in the forwards. BJ Botha hopefully will act as a scrum coach too although there are egos involved.

I'm not sure about Ivan Dineen. I've seen little of him and he doesn't seem to be featuring much this season (one game). Hanrahan will get a few run outs when the internationals are away. He looks an incredible talent from what I've seen. They'll sign a center so that'll limit the chances of any home grown players because all the centers are not Irish and will be there when theres international matches on.

In the half backs its now up to Keatley to kick on and improve like Warwick did. He'll be in the same squad as one of the worlds top 10's so he has every opportunity. I'd like to see more of Cusack too. Cusack looks to me like he could do with a bit more belief in himself.

Connor Murray has been one of the highlights of the season. He is Munsters no one scrumhalf now and will be puching for an Ireland spot after the world cup.

The back 3 looks good now. Plenty of talent there.

Donnacha Ryans future seems to be still uncertain. They might be given him a run at 6 to see how he goes or maybe its under kidneys orders. Either way they should let him know if he'll be played more and if not he should leave.

The squad players I have not mentioned are: Holland, Gleeson, Ronan, Duncan Williams, Barry Murphy, Johne Murphy, TOD, Darragh Hurley, Dennis Hurley, Dave Foley, Deasy, Hayes, Archer, Barnes and Borlase. The older players mention there are firmly second string while the younger ones have potential. How much depends on themselves. There could be some of those gone by the start of next season too.

Seeing as the Ian Dowling thread was closed I'll stick this in here. I was listening to the podcast of the Saturday Sports show from Newstalk today. Ian Dowling was one of the guests and he spoke some more about his injury, coming to terms with it, his studies in UL as well as some other insights. He was in good humour which was nice to hear.

It's part 1 from 7 minutes in and included a wide ranging discussion on sports burnout.

On the news earlier on they claimed that POC participated in full training today. I reckon the SF against Harlequins may come too soon but there are potentially 3 more big games and he could feature in the Connacht game to regain soem match fitness

Best of luck to him in his continued recovery

    POC is a machine.

I really really feared for his WC when I saw his ankle fly off the turf that night.

Unbelievable recovery so far to even be running on it. Keep it up big lad!

If we are to have any chance if doing well in the wc he needs to be at full pelt

he plays loose, meant to be a fairly good scrummager

    Do Munster need another loosehead?

Even without Dave Ryan they've du Preez, Horan, Hurley and then Kilcoyne in the Academy.

Anyhow, I had the impression he either covered both sides or played tighthead primarily?

They don't need another loosehead unless McGahan knows something we don't ie another loosehead leaving.

They could also be planning ahead for a years time. Horan could retire and if they can find some quality Irish props then they might let Du Preez go.

Unfortunatley his profile on dolphinrfc.com doesn't include simple information like his age

Is he a young prop who has done well in AIL and is being looked at for the future or a late 20s early 30s prop is being signed for some reason I can't really understand

    Munster Gearing Up
    26 April 2011, 7:51 pm
    By The Editor
It was a case of all hands on deck today at Thomond Park Stadium as Munster began their preparation for Saturday's Amlin Cup semi final with a lively squad session that featured Paul O'Connell.

The Munster skipper took an active part in the field session fuelling speculation about the exact date of his return to action but coach Tony McGahan was non-committal on that particular issue instead adopting a wait and see stance. "It's far too early to say really. It's good to see him back but we'll wait to see how he comes through this and Thursday's session before we'll have an indication of when he'll be ready to resume." McGahan said.
Felix Jones, who took a late clattering from Jerry Collins in the game against Ospreys last Saturday - one that earned the Kiwi a citing - that left the full-back bloodied and requiring treatment from the Munster medics, was in lively form at training this afternoon as was the now bearded Barry Murphy who showed enough to suggest he's ready for game time sooner rather than later.
Munster will name a squad for the Harlequins game tomorrow afternoon, complete their squad training on Thursday and the team will be finalised after that and announced on Friday 12 noon.
A small number of tickets for the game are still available from the usual outlets with Thomond Park Stadium officials expecting them to be snapped up as they gear themselves for a full house on Saturday.
Getting very excited about this now! love European knockouts!

Munster have named their squad for Saturday.
    Munster Name Their Squad
    27 April 2011, 12:40 pmBy The Editor

Munster coach Tony McGahan has named a 27 strong squad for the Amlin Cup semi final clash on Saturday at Thomond Park Stadium.

Munster Squad (27): Johne Murphy, Felix Jones, Denis Hurley, Doug Howlett, Keith Earls, Sam Tuitupou, Lifeimi Mafi, Paul Warwick, Ronan O’Gara, Peter Stringer, Conor Murray, Marcus Horan, Wian du Preez, John Hayes, Tony Buckley, Stephen Archer, Damien Varley, Mike Sherry, Donnncha O’Callaghan, Mick O’Driscoll, Donnacha Ryan, Ian Nagle, Tommy O’Donnell, David Wallace, Niall Ronan, James Coughlan, Denis Leamy.

    Referee: Romain Poite (France)
Asst Referees: Christophe Berdos, Jerome Garces (France)
    TMO: Giulio De Santis (Italy)
    Citing Commissioner: Achille Reali (Itlay)

No POC or TOL so it looks like they'll have to wait for Connacht for a run.

I'm thinking the 23 is below and that Nagle and Archer will be released to the AIL final squad for Cork Con

    1. Du Preez
    2. Varley
    3. Buckley
    4. DOC
    5. MOD
    6. Leamy
    7. Wallace
    8. Coughlan

    9. Murray
    10. O'Gara
    11. Earls
    12. Warwick
    13. Mafi
    14. Howlett
    15. Jones

    16 Sherry
    17 Horan
    18 Hayes
    19 D Ryan
    20 Ronan (Although I would prefer O'Donnell)
    21 Stringer
    22 Tuitupou
    23 Murphey

Tomas just posted this on guinness facebook page

On train home from Dublin. Was up seeing eye specialist and getting my back sorted in Santry sports clinic. Bad sign when you're doubling up medical appointments! Hopefully I'll be good to train fully next week! Should be a good weekend of rugby. Munster to beat Harlequins and looks like Leinster will be too strong 4 Toulouse.

He's has his set of red boots already :D

With Stringer, ROG, JdV and Howlett, you could hardley ask for a better group of professionals to help bring through the next generation of backs. All we would need is a decent back's coach.

I'm fairly sure Deasy signed on at the same time Sherry and others did.

Edit; Yup he's signed on: http://www.munsterrugby.ie/news/8623.php

Jerry Flannery once said on Area 22 that he was contracted until the end of the 2011/2012 season.
