The first few are exactly what's good at a party - everyone knows the words, sings along in slurs and has a laugh doing it.

The second few are just narcissism. It's not a gig, it's a sing along.

The main thing to try and remember is don't try too hard. Play something that's more embarrassing than cool and it'll go down ten times better. If you don't believe play "sk8r boi" and some Andy McKee back to back at a party and see which gets a better reaction!

Would people please mind including the chords with each song if they know them (those of us who are F challenged) and whether or not there are youtube lessons for it

If someone can play all those songs inside 2 months and play an F then they should be in a recording studio...

Being playing last 7 years r so and would normally get asked to bring a guitar to a party or to take a guitar off some1 else coz i just play songs at party's that people know, so what if its a bit cliche..its gets ppl singing and enjoying themselves... Iv found that Valerie always get the crowd going....a bit of michael buble is always good for the ladies to sing along to.....my party piece would be to continually play pieces of the following songs all in the key of G in this order, Folsum prison blues, ring of fire, go on home british soldiers, stand by me and finish off with the hills of Donegal..its not much but always goes down well....if you have something like that, something with a good tempo always seems to lift the place....

It's very powerful when done well at a party.

I didn't recognise the name of that song so I just went and checked it out on YouTube. Love it.

I could imagine "Outside" by Staind having a similar effect.

I dont think that people who are good at the guitar and break out a masterclass song like austurias is being self indulgent if they are really good at it? they worked hard to learn it. I think its just lazy souls who couldnt be bothered learning masterclass songs are the ones who get jealous of the person playing it and then call him ''self indulgent''. Poor fella is all I can say, just trying to entertain the crowd with all the hard work he has put in. But if he is really bad at it and is trying to do it and calling himself class, then I'll show him where the water fountain is so he can sober up.

so for me I like to put the pedal down and get all the anthems out that I like.

I've read most of all the posts. Is everyone talking about a single player? If so, the songs that are listed are the most "common" played songs. And are now boring.
When I sit around the fire with my ax, there is more than my guitar and a single player there. Usually have about 3. 1 is usually an electric. I personally use a Kustom 16w amp when we're jamming near the fire on clean. I'll distort it when need be. We're in our 30's and have been playing together for a long time.
The songs listed(in previous posts) never make an appearance at our parties.
We play Skynard, Metallica, GnR, Ozzy, The Sheepdogs, Kid Rock. Stuff like that. The big one, due to acoustic rhythms and electric accompaniment, is Zakk Wylde or BLS. There are great ballads or rip up em rock in Zakks albums. I don't disagree that some sappy stuff(for the ladies) should be included.
I'd recommend songs such as.....
Laid back
In this river
Tuesdays Gone
Southern Dreaming
Sweet child o' mine
Patience
Mama I'm coming home
....and such.
Then for the ladies, little known songs like
Baby doll - by Big House.
Fly to the Angels - by LA Guns

Throw some Darius Rucker in there. Maybe some Hootie just to lighten it up a little.
Stay away from Oasis and most others. It's too generic. I know some aren't looking for this kind of party music, but you'd be surprised by the reaction of people. It's not what people expect to hear at a campfire. and it's surprisingly, a nice change.
