It's kinda like being some Russian Oligarch, buying a crap football team and then spending unreasonable sums of money to purchase your way to the top of the league.
Where's the satisfaction of watching your collection grow?
Where's the hunting about in dusty charity shops or perusing piles of crap in the rain at some Sunday market?

No, part of the fun of it all is the collecting itself, the community of information of *that* mint copy of Virtua Tennis 2 that you wanted.

Just using the credit card and buying it seems, boring and missing the point.

It's an impressive lot, but yeah, you're right.

It's like emulation really. When you get everything handed to you at once you completely take it for granted.

What you both say is true and a big negitive, but on the plus side you could save big on a few of those rare(r) titles.

Anyway I prefer the search and hunt as well.

Was there really only 248 DC titles released in the US?

The N-Gage probably had about as many games!

It was only around for 18 months so never got to enjoy the shovelware period at the end of it's life. Still at one point in the DC's lifespan more games were being released on it per month than any other console ever.

You get the same problem with "backed up" games, or so I hear....
You have a console with every game made for it available at a days downloading.
You end up with a massive collection of games for a given system at the drop of a hat and are left with too much choice, a range of great games sure, but no time to play them all, no money invested to attach any kind of value to them and a magpie attitude to gaming, as in, Oh look, something new and shiny, drop whatever you're playing, (download download) then as you get into it, Oh look, something new and shiny, drop whatever you're playing, (download download) and so on ad infinitum.
Had the issue on the PSone big time, I had a massive collection of both actual and dodgy games and never really played any of them, til I sold the PS and all the games, then later bought another one and bought all my favourite games again, this time back up free.

Same issue is there on the Wii, or so I believe, where you end up with a HDD full of games and never play any of them for longer than an hour before, yup, something shiny distracts you and you're off to the torrents once again, I have heard it said some people have the problem anyway.....

I've a Wii with a hard-drive, all it is is a convenience thing mostly, for me it's nothing to do with torrents. Everyone uses usenet anyway :pac: Joking aside, your dead right with the above. You NEED to attach physical value to games, it' gives no appreciation otherwise.

The only way for us spoiled for choice gamers to avoid this is to stick to one game at a time until it's finished. It's very hard to do, especially when you get stuck at one point and have something new and shiny sitting in the corner screaming to be played.

It does work though. And I've found the excitement of a new game actually drives you to put more effort in to finishing the one you're currently on.

Of course, this only applies to story driven/time consuming games. Pick up and play stuff is totally exempt. Well that's what I'm currently telling myself every time I boot up Radiant Silvergun and leave Batman AA sitting there unfinished!

Agreed, one game at a time, the other day it was Lost In Shadow, before that it was Red Dead Redemption for a fortnight, now it's Halo: Reach!
    Where will it end???
(Oh, Halo: Reach is a pleasant surprise, a real trip back to the good stuff of the original, plus love the hiss and sizzle if the Covenant weapons)

Can someone explain this whole 'Remember Halo Reach -14/09/10' tag line on the posters?

Seemed a bit odd. As they went up in work before the release date. So I had posters about telling me to remember a date that hadn't even passed yet.

Reach happened before the events of Halo Combat Evolved so it's just a pretentious way or trying to make the games storyline seem really significant. The date is the launch date. it's kind of like the Yanks 9/11, never forget saying except this time about brightly coloured aliens.

Oh, here we go, Halo: Reach bashing already....

Have you played the game yet Retro, as a matter of interest?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 168 ✭✭justbrian

Muh I have not played it but I still want to bash it. There has not being a halo game I liked yet, so I can guess this is not going to change my feelings.

Well, until you play it you won't know now, will you?

Go to Xtravision and rent it, play for a couple of days, then give us your opinion.
    Best thing really.

Nope still not played it. My friend has it so going to play co-op with him soon enough. Then I can slag it :) For now I'll stick to the adverts.

Since when does needless trolling of a game require people to have played it?! :D

I tried to get a free promo copy in work but they weren't budging. Bastards. Don't they know how important I am?! ..Don't they?!

Now, now, don't be going all like *finger snaps* Naomi Campbell or Linsday Lohan on us now o1s1n!

Next you'll be refused a free Little Big Planet plushy proceed to boil the pet bunny of the offending rep!

Now now, only the royal treatment for o1s1n.

I expect to be greeted at the door to your beers by a waiter with a tray of expensive videogame themed orderves and a a goody bag filled with retro treats.

    Feck!
    The Beers!
I have to enter into urgent negotiations with the better half (game hater and proud of it) to get her to clear out for the evening!
Then hit Lidl and Aldi for munchies!
I'll go and figure a date as well....

The dreamcast is considered retro now?

Dear god, am I that old already...

I still love my dreamcast. To be honest I just burn games for it nowadays, I find it works out a lot cheaper lol.

    Burning?
    Games?
    For the DC?
    Really?
What is this madness you speak of?

You can get retail Dreamcast games? I thought they all only existed on cd-rs.

    >_>

    <_<

I apologize for not having anything to say about warez, Halo Reach or Chelsea, but regarding the subject - 10 bucks a game doesn't sound like a great deal. I wouldn't mind having a collection like that, but I'm pretty happy with the 30-40 games I got for the DC off eBay. There are "several dozen" great games for the Dreamcast, but quite a bit of rubbish ones as well.

I'm shocked Shenmue II didn't have an US release, what's the deal with that?

Maybe they weren't certain a game featuring you searching for sailors in bars would really capture the imagination of the average American games playing male.

And I thought I was bad trying to complete a PAL Megadrive collection!

The ps2 has one of the largest libraries of any console. You'll spend the rest of your days trying to get all them together. And when you finally do, you'd want to have one massive room to put them in!
