3 great irish albums out recently.

Abebisi Shank - It's called someething like the 2nd album by a band called A.S..
Groom - Marriage (this is seriosuly amazing. a concept album where all the songs run into each other.May contain a brass section!)
Grand Pocket Orchestra - This may not ne available in physical format just yet, but it is streaming over on Nialler9.com

Been meaning to pick this up - they're great live, does the album live up to their performances?

to be honest i've never seen them live so I can't compare the album to their shows but I've had it on repeat since I bought it. It's not the perfect record-there's the odd cringy lyric and one track in particular sounds rather too much like the libertines' what katie did but these are small criticisms really, it's still a really interesting listen, best irish album i've picked up in ages.

Not a single bad track on it. One of the best albums of the noughties, if not the best.

Have to agree saw her live in Vicker st a few years back excellent gig . Hell among the Yearlings is also worth a listen.
Cant agree about Band of Horses Infinite Arms thought it was dreadful- Cease to Begin is far superior imo.

One of the better albums I've heard lately was Monsters of Folk -Check out this song I think its incredible!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAG1n5E6Z-o&feature=related

Also check out RSAG -Be it right or wrong ( real Talkin Heads feel) Jeremy Hickey -Go on de cats!!!

    Oasis - Definitely Maybe
Oasis - (What's the Story) Morning Glory?
Stone Roses - The Stone Roses
    Blur - Parklife
    Radiohead - The Bends
    Radiohead - OK Computer
    Kula Shaker - K
    The Cure - Greatest Hits

Ok, the last one isnt an album. Anything there is well worth a listen, and that's just off the top of my head

That is one ugly post. Hard Travellin is grand, any of them will probably have alot of rough songs. So you'll have to sift through alot. Worth it though.

Check out Bailterspace. A band from New Zealand who I think have split up. If you like Sonic Youth, MBV etc. you might like em. It's worth tracking down their best-of album...which is also called Bailterspace

Both Rolo Tomassi records are fantastic - Hysterics and Cosmology. Highly recommended for fans of Biffy Clyro (they're one of Biffy's favourite bands), The Fall of Troy, or anyone with an open mind! It's pretty mental math rock with elements of synth-pop, indie and straight up metal :)

Okay, so this year I have been mostly listening to albums by....

The National, Band of Horses, The Hold Steady, Wintersleep, Okkervil River, The Mountain Goats, Dan Mangan, Pilate, Rural Alberta Advantage, New Pornographers, Wolf Parade, Frightened Rabbit, Spoon, Clem Snide, Uncle Tupelo, Surfer Blood, Sun Kil Moon, Wild Beasts, Forest Fire, Jamie T, Shout Out Louds, The XX, Midlake, Biffy Clyro, Bright Eyes, Phoenix, Modest Mouse, The Thermals, Grandaddy, Yo la Tengo, Bon Iver and Minus the Bear....

Also, is it worth getting any more albums by the following bands...

Mountain Goats - I have We shall all be healed, The Sunset Tree
New Pornographers - I have Mass Romantic, Twin Cinema
Uncle Tupelo - I have No Depression
Minus the Bear - I have Menos el Oso
Yo La Tengo - I have I can hear the heart beating as one

    Thanks folks!

I'd say go for Popular Songs or the wonderfully named I Am Not Afraid Of You And I Will Beat Your Ass before Summer Sun.

You may like The Unicorns, they only made one proper album but it is one I come back to time and again.

Have you listened to any albums by Islands? You'd like them if you like The Unicorns. You know, seeing as they are mostly The Unicorns.

Yeah, I'm a bit obsessed with all Unicorns related projects, less so with Islands now because Vapours wasn't too good.Clues(Alden's last band) released a brilliant album last year too.Human Highway are another side project to check out, and Nick is working on something with the singer from Man Man.What's your verdict on the last Islands?

If you liked Menos el Oso, get Planet of Ice. It's not quite as good but still a great listen (and has probably their most addictive song, knights). Just keep away from their most recent record- it's horrible.

Explosions in the Sky, Battles (as someone else mentioned), Mogwai, Godspeed! You Black Emperor, Slint. All kinda similar to those three in one way or another.

I didn't really care for Return to the Sea, really liked Arm's Way and liked Vapours... less than Arm's Way though. I mean, it was good, but it wasn't anything compared to Arm's Way or anything the Unicorns made. I haven't been following the other Unicords-related bands though.

Like Battles, listened to F#A#(infinity) by GY!BE a few times now, so I'll check out the rest. Thanks :)
