Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    every bit of the m6 has coverage with both o2 and vodafone, i drive galway to dublin about 7times a week and have both an o2 and vodafone and never have trouble.

    Re the tourists so, they breakdown, whats the chances they will get out and walk?

    No, it doesn't. Try actually making a comprehensible call. The M8 also has mountain sections where there's no coverage. Also, shock horror, some people don't have phones or car chargers, and we have four mobile networks in this country, not two.

    What do you expect them to do, sit in their cars till someone notices them? Phone 999 and use up emergency service time to get a breakdown truck?

    Motorway phones connect you to someone who knows *exactly* where you are and can get appropriate breakdown services.

    That doesn't make sense as all our motorways are already N with motorway restrictions, i.e. all Irish motorway forms part of a national route. In Britain there's a distinction between M-prefixed motorway and motorway sections of A-roads, meaning (for example) that the M1 is a completely separate road from the A1 and A1(M). If we used British naming convention here then ALL of our motorways would be Nx(M).
