Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    Dempsey was fast off the mark to trumpet his €2.8bn budget last december, it was obvious that he would never spend it within a very short time but he and the FF droids got to make their promises and announcements to the media.

    He has submitted a revised estimate for a vote today of only €2.3bn which is €476m shy of what he trumpeted loudly only 6 months ago.

    Unless you'd like to relate this more to infrastructure and some specifics, this thread doesn't really have a future.

    The Exchequer returns should be out this afternoon and despite lots of road openings so far this year you will see that the capital expenditure is running 15% BEHIND profile or is that perhaps 20% now?. Profile is here at the cutback amount

    Capital expenditure on transport ( which expenditure=infrastructure) should be €621m for the year to date and should have been over €140m in May alone. We know that roads are being finished and handed over early. There is no excuse for underspend in 2010 ......whatever about the completely empty pipeline for next year.

    Fingers crossed that the three small schemes will go ahead out of the capital programme, namely Tralee, Cork SRR and Longford. Need to keep things ticking over, especially when these are piss cheap in comparison to the LATEST 2 billion these clowns have put into Anglo.

    Some dangerous sections of roads should be prioritised before any major bypasses are done IMO. Tralee is bad but bearable while there is still deathtraps on several national primary routes.

    The N17 alone has the awful Milltown-Ballindine section and this should be done to provide a good standard of road running between the Gort-Tuam scheme and the excellent Claremorris/Knock bypass section. What would be the cost of the N17-Tuam to Claremorris scheme for a length of 23km?

    If this carries on until the end of the year then there has been a hidden cutback of €400m...no matter what Dempsey promises. That €500m will have to be paid over next year for work already done . It certainly will not be available to build anything. July and August are big months with lots of consortia chasing their cash. Lets see what the profile looks like then.

    Agreed, but they are just pushing cheap schemes at the moment. Tralee can probably wait, Longford shouldnt have been cut as its stupidly cheap but the Cork SRR should have been done years ago.

    Its schemes like the N28 and N24 which although necessary (in the case of the latter maybe not 2+2 now), will probably be utterly forgotten :(

    It doesn't seem to show a 500m cut. It mentions €2.081 billion for capital projects and €677 million for current spending.

    I don't know how this fits with the 2.3bn figure mentioned in the revised estimates in theorder paper posted by the OP
