Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    I note that South Tipperary County Council are planning on refurbishing the hamlet of New Inn on the R639 between Cashel and Cahir. A field in the centre of the village is to be landscaped into a park and playground, and trees are to be planted. Overhead cables are to be put undergound and cobbles are to replace the concrete footpaths.

    I understand that Golden on the N74 is to undergo similar work. Does anyone know anything about the scheme that will facilitate these works?

    District Service Centre Enhancement Schemes (DSCES)
    The South Tipperary County Development Plan 2009-2015 (CDP) has
    designated 19 villages as District Service Centres and as part of the
    “Actions” arising from the CDP District Service Centre Enhancement
    Schemes (DSCES) are being carried out. The purpose of the schemes
    is to facilitate and guide improvement works to the streetscapes of
    these settlements and to enhance village amenity by way of elements
    such as tree planting and landscaping, improved pedestrian amenity,
    public lighting, street furniture, etc.

    Draft schemes were prepared by MosArt who are consultants in the
    area of village design and placed on public display for a 4 week period.
    Evening public information sessions were also held in each village by
    the consultants, attended by the local elected members and planning
    staff. Submissions and observations on all aspects of the schemes
    were invited. The schemes were endorsed by the Elected Members.To
    date schemes have been prepared and endorsed for 13 of the District
    Service Centres as follows;

    2008 DSCES: Ardfinnan Kilsheelan Killenaule Lisvarrinane
    Ballyclerihan

    2009 DSCES: Bansha Golden Clogheen Ballyporeen Mullinahone
    Ballingarry Holycross Dundrum

    South Tipperary County Council has identified funding to deliver
    measures proposed under some of the DSCES such as Dundrum,
    Bansha, Emly, Clogheen, Ardfinnan, Killenaule, Kilsheelan and
    Ballyclerihan. The funding available to the Council, to carry out the
    schemes, for some of the District Service Centres listed above, will
    not be sufficient to deliver the entire scheme. In other instances,
    whilst a scheme has been prepared for a District Service Centre there
    is currently no Council funding available.

    South Tipperary County Council have consulted with the South
    Tipperary Development Company (STDC) who are in a position to cofund
    community-led “village renewal” schemes. General appearance
    upgrading such as ornamental paving, street art, ornamental lighting
    The support rate for community organisations for capital and other
    projects is 75% with a maximum grant of up to €150,000. In addition
    voluntary labour can be claimed.

    Subject to budgets/funding it is hoped to prepare Enhancement
    Schemes for the remaining District Service Centres of Cappawhite,
    Emly, Fethard, Limerick Junction, Newcastle and New Inn in the
    coming years.

    I hope they don't over-use grey cobbles/paving stones there like they have done in Galway, there are other colours ffs!! Looks so dull and shabby if too much grey is used.

    The yellow-ish paving on Thomas Street in Limerick looks great - it can be so wet and grey sometimes (though not really significantly so since last summer) that is nice to have paving that is actually *brighter* and more colorful when it is wet!
