Do you think it's a good idea to start a #IrishFightingGames IRC channel?

Possibly on the EFNET or Rizon servers.

I'd do it & advertise, but have no idea how to start a channel.

    /join IrishFightingGames

Need people to join in order to get 'Q'...Think that then allows you to set operators (moderators) and so on. See you there :D

    🤪

    What server?

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,181 ✭✭✭✭Jim

Yea, just need to get a certain amount of people to join and idle until you can get a Q bot to keep the chan.

If its not on quakenet its not worth it!

For new people unfamilar with IRC. Here is a quick guide to joining the Irish Fighting Game Channel.

To start simply download mIRC here and install as you would any other program

Run IRC and select Tools > Options. This screen should be the first thing you see upon running the program

Fill in the basic details; i.e. Your alias, an alternative (just in case great minds think alike) and e-mail

Click the "Servers" tab. Open the "QuakeNet" folder and select a server

Go back to the "Connect" tab and click connect

Finally click Commands > Join channel

Insert "#irishfightinggames" into the field and there you go!

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,181 ✭✭✭✭Jim

For those who can't muster the effort to download a client, use this

    http://webchat.quakenet.org/

Just type in whatever nick you want and "irishfightinggames" as the channel and away you go.

    I use X-chat. It's nice, too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,910 ✭✭✭Sisko

**** sake this irc thing has had nearly half of the entire community in it, plus random new people??? I didnt expect this!

    Nominating for sticky.
I've been using this the past 2 days to get lots of ST & 3S (and banter!) in.

    Awwww.

    IRC is internet relay chat.

The link above uses HTML to view IRC.

It's a magic combination of the two. :)

Expect many tumbleweeds when asking for a sticky.

@ terry , just use jims link. Was the 1st time I used IRC too. Its strange as Irc seems filled with people who don't know what a forum is. Its like the other side of the internet or something.

    Just a small point-

It's not my or Azza's job to read every single line of every post in this forum.

If you see a thread you think might be good stickied, you should make sure one of us finds out.

That said, I am not a huge fan of over stickying stuff, I usually wait and see if a threads popular first.

Another alternative would be to create an index of important threads and stickying that like an FAQ.
