Just read about this, won't be turning the PS3 on until they've sorted it out.

What is disappointing is the lack of updates and the fact that people seem to be stumbling upon this problem via forums like this. I don't care about trophies etc but it would be nice to be kept informed. It looks like they are hoping things will be back up when the date rolls over to March 2nd but it seems to be just that i.e. hope. If we have a problem with our systems in work we keep our customers updated every hour on progress and there seems to be very little info on their sites.

Marketing Ploy forcing those of us who have not yet bought a Slim PS3 to do it now or else!,it could also be Skynet taking over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,732 ✭✭✭Reganio 2

Another thing is with the date, and it being wrong hence why its not working. But tomorrow is the Playstation not going to think its the 1st of March and the whatever is effecting it now is thinking its the 2nd of March, so is it still not messed up?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,752 ✭✭✭pablomakaveli

I just bought Heavy Rain today. I had'nt heard about the problem with the PS3s yet when i put it on. My game did'nt work and i thought there was something wrong with it.

I was relieved when i checked the internet and found out it was a problem with the clock. That relief turned to rage when i realised i won't be able to play it til at least BLOODY MIDNIGHT.

No because the 1st of March actually exists the 29th of February 2010 does not. You could change the OS date to any date you like it wouldn't make a difference. The problem isn't that the days don't match, it's that the internal clocks date doesn't exist.

I'm actually hoping this is not fixed tomorrow and we all get a new slim out of it. I'm sure the profits Sony rake in per annum can take a small dent. Even if we don't get a slim out of it, it would just be funny. I'm just a bastard, covered in bastard sauce.

Edit, its a pity the internal clock didn't throw a full wobbler because of the Firmware date discrepancy and brick it altogether.

Yeah except that Sony is losing money hand over fist for the last couple of years.

The intenal clock roll-over will work as confirmed by a few users who opened their PS3 and removed the internal battery thereby resetting the time & date.
They then set the internal clock date to March 1st and the system is working fine again, can log into PSN and all DLC, trophies working as per usual.

Ah I get ya, but another thing maybe you can explain in laymans terms. How come I and and others can play older games? How come they aren't being blocked by the clocks?

I'm just a layman myself! Just going by what I've gathered so far. I think it's something to do with the way trophies are set up or something. Maybe it incorporates the date to verify your information or something, not sure. I think gmost games are working fine, just that when you insert the disc it appears to lose the trophy information. I think someone earlier said the the God of War collection was playing fine, it just wasn't registering trophies.

Heavy Rain for whatever reason needs the trophy information in order for you to play the game, so it just boots you back to the XMB when it can't verify the trophy information.

It's got to do with the trophies. Im not sure if this is right but i think the trophies need to check for a timestamp or something. When they check they are getting a date which doesn't exist so the game terminates.

Its going to happen in less than 3 and half hours anyway. Why void the warranty of your PS3 for that.
