    Ok folks, consider this therapy...

The object of this thread, is to give a reason why you love this sport.

Is it the sportsmanship? the socialising? the chance to go release some tension on the field?

What makes it tick for you? We're all obsessed to one degree or another... the piles of guns are testiment to that.

What is the personal attraction for you? what makes you feel good about it?

    I'll start off.....

For me, Going to an airsoft event is a chance to meet people from all backgrounds, carears, and walks of life... I get to talk to people I'd ordinerily not meet, and on an even grounding too.... Police officers, Judges, Librarians, truck drivers... allsorts.... Airsoft is sociable, and fun... We make our sport... without people, it would suck...
    :)

Deffiently the main thing for me is the friends you make.

Also the fact you can run around and shoot people, and not look crazy.....well most the time

Taking a group of mild mannered, educated, intelligent individuals....tossing 4 smoke grenades in front of an objective and then screaming at them to get up off the ground and charge.....and then watching them turn into a screaming horde of salivating killers as they spray indescriminately in every direction and take the objective. :)

No better way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

for me the biggest thing (except playing with the toys and dressing up)
is talking to people who actually know what airsoft is
i've lost count of the times i've been talking to someone and i ask
    "ever hear of airsoft?"
    "wtf?"
    *walks off in disappointment*

The people, the banter, the escapism, those rare moments when it all comes together for you and you feel like the hero in some over the top hollywood action movie and the comedy moments when it all goes epically wrong. Also the guns.

well after being a re-enactor for over 10 years and wargaming with bf guns and pyro, its the next step.
in a perfect world, an auto gun that fires a blank round and a bb at the same time!

The friendliest, most helpful bunch of guys and gals you could ever hope to meet. Get to play with and handle replicas of iconic firearms, and get to challenge yourself against some great opposition, magic!!

Cos it makes me feel hard-core

To quote Matthew Modine in Full Metal Jacket
I wanted to see Vietnam; the pearl of south east asia. I wanted to meet people from an interesting and stimulating culture. And kill them. I wanted to be the first kid on my block with a confirmed kill ...

I love meeting new people; and nideed putting faces to names I already know. And playing alongside them, swapping stories afterwards, the exercise that's fun, etc. I could go on all night but I think I can sum it up on two words; airsoft rules.

It's the teamwork that does it for me....nothing more satisfying than when a team comes together in sync to execute tactics perfectly....

....and the guns :p.... plus where else can I hold an m16 in one hand, while down on one knee, in full BDU, and scream "I'm a lead farmer motherf***er" without being sectioned or put in prison :D

all about releasing the tension, rage whatever you want to call it.Though I admit sometimes it causes more than it solves.

Meeting people who enjoy the things I do. Namely Wars and guns and big boys stuff.. Good exercise and it gets me away from "normal" life for the day. Just a pity everybody in every club wasn't as like minded as the rest of us. There will always be the back stabbing barstewards out there who think they are better than the rest of us even though they are just ignorant little wan***s!!

What I enjoy about Airsoft? It a wonderful way to release tension, but the main reason I like it is the diversity of the sport. Go alone or play as a team you always have criac. You also get to run round in 20lb worth of gear and shoot people. Whats not te like?! :D

Being part of a team. I truly miss football to a serious extent, and airsoft fills that aspect and more.

I get to buy and use what look like real guns, dress up as a solider, and employ play that resembles warfare, its my wet dream.

I love the vast array of characters I meet and always end up just bursting me hole laughing everywhere I am.

I'd say the main reason I'm still in this game is the team I'm apart off, I would have stopped long ago only for theyve become close friends and the craic is immense. And they employ a kinda game style that I just love and always want to be a part of.

I think its also cool that I'm part of a community in a sport thats on the grow, and want to be apart of it.

Plus the fact it just just unleashed the years and years of counter strike play and paintball play in me, curled into one big ball of epic win.

I like the friendly attitude of every one where no one cares what side your on back in the safe zone, no mercy on the field but help you fix your gun between games.

I also like the variety of game stiles from shoot em up to milsim depending on me mood & the site.

Last but not least I get to play with loads of cool toys without being told to grow up & act me age:D

I guess you mean 'now'? heh, quite an ironic slip in this instant.

MMmmm, Team is not an aspect of airsoft I've considered myself. I've never been 'regular' at events. I've been to countless hundreds of games, and a regular player at a few sites, but never with any 'each week' or 'every fortnight' like some people can manage. I've had offers to join several teams, but as most of my airsoft has been in England, the team culture is Nowhere near as strong.... ie, most players are lone, but band together at events for the sides....
Always looked tempting, but things have distance here, and numbers, and people come from far and wide... not everyones in the same town, or area....
Perhaps I'll go for a team one day, just to see what its like... some of the ones i've seen here make it look worth it...

Then again the duo of myself and my old time airsofting side kick is probablty akin.... Tactical-tart and Kitslut ride again!

O i just realised i wrote " team im not apart off" that was ment to be " team im apart" ala hawks.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,205 ✭✭✭Firekitten

Uh.... that's just rude... nasty, and abusive, and has no place in airsoft. ( to a deleted post)

THe social aspect is one thing I enjoy, and just the whole idea of war-games and being able to shoot at people :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,783 ✭✭✭CptMackey

All ways wanted to be a solider but never liked the thought of basic training and getting shot. That and i like meeting people (girlfriend says i know too many)

Oh and i am addicted to buying aegs and the like :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,457 ✭✭✭giggsy664

I just like the way there is no feuding off the skirmish site. Like in football you have hooliganism, but in airsoft the only aggresion is on the battlefield! And they're all a sound bunch of lads and ladies.

Plus I get to run around shooting people. What's not to like?

That, and it absolves me of doing any housework on a Saturday :)

For me, it has to be the brappage. Brap brap brap.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,463 ✭✭✭Leftyflip

Becasue I like to see people run across my line of fire and then brap them, thats why. :)

Its fun, social, friendly, nice and ADRENALINE! and its total escapism! Living your fricken dreams! ANGER management! Goot team building, ans so on. **** it, im off to bed. Post more tomorrow, I shall.

hmmm the feeling you get when someone looks right at you thinks its just a bush and walks on... followed by the laugh had after the skirmish when he or she realises what happened
