I knew nothing about the horse I backed it purely on the posts that said one of his horses was going to win. I had 20 on Steig to win in Ballinrobe and won 120 so I siad I would put a tenner each way on 3 of P Flynn's horses and pocket the rest! After the first one lost convincingly (keoghs tradebar) I hadn't much confidence and left the bookies but put a tenner each way on Tennormore and Koh Samui (never heard of any of them before today!!) but will look out for that one again - didnt even see the race but saw it won by 3 lengths!

I think thats Paul Flynn (Celbridge) not Pat, but I could be wrong. He said in paper a few weeks ago that the next horse he sent to England would win. Now technically this is the next one, but he has about 3/4 other runners this evening. Koh Samui is also being backed (8s-5s) in the 8.30 and its his also. Just so you know.
Well he wasnt exactly right, the first one (that I backed) is still running :o But he well and truly made up for that with the 100/1 shot! Even a 25 e/w for the owners would have made their evening!

Fair play! That horse was off the track for over 400 days and looked to be the one that was sent over to keep the other 2 company...how wong was I

I was right about Koh Samui though. An utter dog! The pox couldnt even manage to jump the first fence and ran out.

Sick. Just seen the result now. Had checked Koh Samui last night and saw it was nowhere. Of all the horses running he was the last one I would have put a cent on.

At least someone made some cash from it.

I reckon the whole thing was a betting coup for Mr Flynn. Send over 4 horses say one of them WILL win, then put out a word for one of them - Koh Samui plus this mention see that attract the cash meanwhile those in the know or who take a chance clean up (I briefly did think about sticking a euro e/w on all four!).

I see Keagan Latham has gone over to Thirsk today for two rides for P Morris which would be fairly unusual?

    Winrob - 16/1 (2nd last time out)
Secret Millionaire - 5/2 (also 2nd last time out)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,968 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Winrop is friendless while the other race looks a pretty hard to call Maiden.

Secret Millionaire backed into 6/4 fav and finishes 3rd.

Hopefully Winrob made up for that though ;)

Achak in the first race at Ascot today. Nina Carberry for Ger Lyons.

13/2 and paying e/w on the first 4. Supposed to have a reasonable chance...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,968 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Should do, Secret Night looks the most likely to me. My Learned Friend and Halsion Chancer at bigger odds are tempting.

Achak is a Pricewise Extra pick so I'm on it! :)

hey do you ever back 4 horse in the same race to win? or is that stupid, but doing the calculations there is a profit if any of the four win, like if i bet 15 euro on four horses each my bet is 60, but if any of the 4 won i win 90, i win a third more,? if this is stupid tell me!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,968 ✭✭✭✭mike65

High risk stuff, in races where the odds are long the fields are big and very competitive - none of the 4 might place never mind win. In more straighforwrd races, the odds are much shorter, backing half the field nearly guarentees a loss I'd say

    I'm presuming you'd go e/w.

    example big handicap http://www.paddypower.com/racing/daily-racing/york/3%3A45-HANDICAP-6f-1524518.html

    example classic

    http://www.paddypower.com/racing/daily-racing/ascot/4%3A25-KING-GEORGE-VI-AND-QUEEN-ELIZABETH-STAKES-1m-4f-1515034.html

oddly enough your tactic could work in the above race, apart from the fav all are e/w prices. If you got the winner and 2 other places you might turn a decent profit.

    That's known as dutching.

I used to do it quite a bit and still do sometimes. I ran a thread on it here many moons ago, where I dutched 100 races:

You have to carefully select the races to do it in though.

I'm calling an E/W because nothings a certainty but for anyone studying the race it should be obvious she's over priced but then for the benefit of others....

She's OR 114, with only Midday rated higher and other rated the same at lower odds, with the 3 YO weight allowance against older horses (weight-for-age), was 3rd in the Epsom Oaks this year on fast ground behind Midday & Sariska (Good to Firm lovers) and performs better with cut at 9-10f, Midday (main danger) has best form and only successes over good to firm and at 12f = ?uestion.

    Rain forecast
GOING: GOOD (GoingStick 8.2) (Fresh ground top bend). (Cloudy with outbreaks of rain, possibly heavy at times; fresh south-westerly winds)

Barshiba decent, older, shout also at long odds (11/1) almost same reasons as HH.

High Heeled: will run only if there is significant rain, states trainer; SOFT-
Midday: will run only if the ground is suitable, states trainer GOOD+

Sweet Lightening who was a winner waiting to happen at Goodwood last weekend (jockey put him in a hole) runs at 3:15 HANDICAP 1m 2f 95y (HAYD), Dancourt is the obvious rival but 11/2 looks a good price.
