Drug taking was VERY obvious, the fights (2 that I seen) went completely unheeded, there was no Guards or stewards there to break them up.

poor crowd control, long waits for beer etc all valid complaints

but what the hell has people taken drugs got to do with anything?

80k+ people and one of the biggest "bands" in dance music and your shocked people were taken drugs? how do they affect your time at a gig like?

    christ all mighty.

Well, I for one had a great day yesterday. Left Parnell Street at 12.30 and got to Slane about an hour later. Took 5 minutes to get to the forest path, then another 20 minutes to get to the Castle grounds. We were some of the first people there.

The Crowd going home was absolutely mental, though. We were right at the front, so it took about 45 minutes to reach the gates at the top of the hill, then another hour to walk through the village and find a bus with some empty seats, and then another hour to get back to Parnell street. We got home at about 2.10am, so nearly 3 hours between the end of Oasis' gig and getting to Dublin City Centre.
A friend of mine wasn't so lucky, though. We lost him on the way up the hill to the grounds entrance(he stopped to record the firewords) and he got stuck on one of the busses behind the one that broke down. He didn't get back to Dublin until just after 4.

Didn't experience any problems with queues simply because we brought our own water and food, so we didn't use any of the outlets, there. The queues did look crazy, though.

We sat on the hill to the left of the big recording thingy in the middle for The Blizzards and Glas Vegas, but went down to the very front for Kasabian, Prodigy and Oasis. The Prodigy gig was insane. So much pushing and shoving. My ankles were killing me from all the jumping. I thought all the music was brilliant except Glasvegas. I'm not a fan.

I recorded nearly 4 hours of HD footage on my camera, The guy who checked my bag at the entrance said I could keep it, but just to not be caught using it inside. Sound man. Unfortunately I did get cought by a security guy, but he only gave me a warning and told me not to use it again or he'd take the battery out of it. Of course, I ignored him :D

If I uploaded some vids to youtube would they be taken down by the gig promoter? I presume they would.

The walk along the forest path before the gig was a disgrace. If one person had kicked off there, something shocking could have happened. To think a queue like that might be acceptable to anybody I don't know. I could only imagine if the auld pair or anyone less than "mad for it" had to put up with that.

I didn't time it, but I'd say it was an hour queue? At least...
I sent a text saying I've just crossed over the bridge at 5:20, I got into the gig ground just before the Prodigy came on at 7. So it took me 90 minutes, give or take.

I drove myself and had 5/6 pints during the day but stopped when Kasabian came on so 5 o'clock.

What the hell happend at the end of the night, 2 hours sitting in a bus not moving covered in mud..

    HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great day though, shame about all the scum, but you should expect that at oasis, no blame to oasis.

Poor girl got picked up against her will and thrown around in the air by some shirtless, tattoo covered scumbag, landed on her bloody head, then he puched the middle aged man that defended the girl .

    Missed the blizzards.

    Glazvegs 1
    ???? who

Kasabian 3 (very rough moshing though by scumbags, moshing is cool and all but this was something else though, people finding it hard to breath being crushed against gates)

    The Prodigy 5

Amazing, we moved back a good bit because it got so bad in the front, amazing show from them, great set, damn near stole the show.

    Oasis 5

Amazing, dumb ass scumbags acted like idiots but who cares, great show, sound, the screen, Liam was Liam, Noel was Noel.

    The Journey Home

    HELLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!

Don't even need to say why.

Yeah Oasis were good but the prodigy blew them off the stage ,Sound was very muffled for oasis esp the first 5 songs ,they should have things like that sorted by now, gig should of been in croker ,slane is badly organised and a nightmare to get out of,I was back in the local in raheny by 11.40 left before the last song ran to the carpark and got out before the main crowds straight on to the M1,Although couldnt drink during the gig as driving ,didnt matter couldnt get to the bar anyway ,morale of the story dont drink if driving at gig leave before the end and you will get last orders near home if you live not too far away of course.:D

The concert should have really taken place in Croke park which would have made life a whole lot easier for everyone. The hassle of getting to and from Slane and everything else that goes hand in hand with holding a concert in a field is something that we all could have done without.
Yeah, well Dublin isn't the centre of the country.

I have to comment on the bar....

People I know including myself, who play by the rules (dont drink and drive, dont take alcohol onto the venue etc) missed the ENTIRE prodigy set in a queue for a beer. A beer is all part of it, relaxing, having a good day, chilling out and having a laugh. It was ruined in a queue that was growing more and more frustrated and there was no attempt by the organisers to rectify the crowd control or queue mechanism/flow or resource management - these people are supposed to be professionals and we all paid well for tickets.

The bar staff were rude and if you didnt have the 2 euro extra in change they almost threw the change at you. Mind you, I dont blame them, they were probably sick of listening to complaints.

The organisers and promoters need to hold their hands up on this one.

It's simply not good enough that people should have to leave early to get last orders somewhere else or not drink. Imagine having to leave the cinema before the end of a film. Why should that be the case?

I will certainly be complaining officially and all other, with legit complaints should do the same - we can not accept this sub standard customer service. If it had been anywhere else in Europe there would be an investigation.

80 thousand people aren't measured in 'k's, although that's how the organizers would view it :D

I didn't go yesterday but having spoken to my Dad who has just arrived home an hour ago ( he was working down in Slane the entire weekend in the bar areas doing the beer refrigeration), he blames the fact that the bar staff were provided with little or NO cash/change to use and most of the time were dependent on people having the exact amount, hence the long wait time, and he said things only started to move more quickly when they changed it from 6 euro to 5 euro per pint to get the queues moving quicker

Ya pure greed again, it probably ended up costing them more money as people gave up queuing for drink. Also the charges for water were scandalous. I know a girl who paid €10 for a litter bottle of water.

I paid €5 for my 4 pints, I got 2 on the left and 2 on the right ;) Still took over an hour to get served even though pints were a fiver, so there was no way I was going to queue again!

Came from Dublin, here's a recap of my day.
Got on Dublin Bus at bout 1.30. Had 1 or 2 cans with me to pass the journey...Bout 40 minutes into the journey some d!ckhead behind me puked on me. Projectile vomit on my hair and down my back. Muppet decides to get off the bus then, but not before puking on the driver's door and on the step into the bus. Thank flip I had a spare top and wipes with me. Boyfriend cleaned the puke off me, I'd to strip off my top and get changed on the bus (morto!).

So then, our bus got as far as the barriers at about 2.45 and we started the walk. I'd say we got into the venue at about 4, didn't mind the walk too much as I wasn't too bothered about seeing The Blizzards.

Off we went then to the VIP section. Well worth the money (flip all ques, and a great view). The Prodigy was top notch. Really played to the crowd. Great fun jumping round like a mad yolk. Oasis were much better than expected - they interacted with the crowd a bit, and didn't seem to be in the middle of a fight.

Left just before the end of I Am The Walrus. And so the nightmare began. Got separated from my boyf in the darkness. Took us about an hour to meet up (was a bit freaked out walking round on my own in the dark).Walked till about 1.30...got to the last 2 visible Dublin Bus buses on the road. A steward said there was 50 more buses on the way with a Garda escort. I asked him were we supposed to keep walking or what. He said "I'd advise ya to find a place to chill for a while". Next thing, the last bus starts up, mad rush to get on, pure panic on people's faces, managed to get on, found space on the stairs to sit down. Our bus driver did open the doors to the people who knocked.....they then proceeded to scream at each other (GET OFF MY FCUKING BUS...HOW THE FCUK AM I GONNA GET HOME). It was pure anarchy. After about 4 or 5 different screaming matches a group on people barged their way onto the bus. Bus driver got sick of screaming and left them on. Got into Dublin at about 3 am. Was wrecked from the journey.

But....it didn't turn me off Slane. That was my first time there, between the puking and the bus nightmare it couldn't have been much worse. But the day itself was great.

I was actually at the gig and didn't have to queue for 90 mins for a beer? Do I detect some classic boards exaggeration perhaps ? I had several pints of Heineken and some nice food to boot :) It did take a while to get home but I was happy out after the gig. I think it took a good while cos there was like 80,000 people all trying to get home at the same time from what is essentially a remote country castle

A guy did spill some beer on my arm though at one point so I am going to burn my ACDC tickets now and hide in my house until Joe Duffy is on tomorrow and then I am going to call him. Twice. And let me tell you why, there were people at this gig. Lots of them. And some were drinking. I also saw someone with a pink cowboy hat and it made me cry.

Basically I am an Irish crybaby who lives in the lap of luxury and I expect gigs to be snuggly and safe like my bed at home. And as for Oxegen I am going down to it but they better have everything laid on perfect for me cos I am in effect a little prince who needs looking after.

This whole attitude about Ireland not being able to run gigs properly is wrong, it seems many people are just moaners :)

    :)
    ok ok......
look I know what you are sayin, and to a point I agree - but seriously, the bigger the gig here generally the worse (or none at all) the organisation is........there's pages and pages of back and forth stuff on here now, but it won't make any difference - people are always saying why don't you write a complaint letter to blah blah blah......

well lets see - has anyone written a letter of complaint to any incumbent company in this country and actually seen anything change afterwards ?????

and yes I don't see why gigs here can't be organised properly - 80,000 yes it's a big crowd - but they've had 30 years to find better ways to get people in and out of Slane - and guess what, it's the same poxy mess year in year out, that's just one of two things - they are inept or they just couldn't be bothered, why would they if they can get close enough to selling these things out the profit margins are covered and as long as Irish people accept this level of service that's what we're going to get (I admit I accept it myself - if there's someone on that I really want to see and can't go anywhere else to see them I'll pay the high price, put up mess and still come away enjoying the gig.....)
to a certain degree the organisers are restricted with a lot of venues positioned in or around residential areas, but if they are going to persist with herding people through small areas like cattle people are going to get hurt - Marley Park last summer was dangerous enough as you are herded past so many different exit points and only one entrance on either side of the park..

and finally Dublin Bus - well lets see, they too know how many people they need to cater for - if they are only supposed to take people that have purchased tickets then they know exactly how many buses they need to pick people up at the end of a gig - why is it always such a mess, it's not like they aren't charging a lot of money for the trip.......I've been to gigs around Europe, and there's plenty of gigs and festivals in Europe where there are free buses to and from venues to main transportation like train and bus stations......and there usually seem to be plenty of busses available at different places around the venues

maybe I've just become spoilt :p

In fairness, considering you've been to Slane 4 times, you should have known it would take an hour to get in. You should have just turned up early. School-boy error on your part.

I drove and came in from navan, no traffic easy parking and abtou 25 mins walk to the gig. I was back in sligo before 2:30. The bottom bar was 35 mins tops to get a drink so no real problems there. I went about 5 times during the day 35mins was the longest.

Got in early enuf yesterday,,got the pit bands, sat on the grass drinking and watching Glasvegas/The Blizzards.

Bit annoyed with the bar service/price..the missus got in a bottle of Vodka tho as her bag wasnt searched :p

Kasabian/Oasis were mega as expected, spent the whole of The Prodigy getting food/queueing for the bar!

No problems in the pit,not overcrowded...was back in my bed in Tullamore by half 1

Yeah, you're dead right. People should allow themselves to be ripped off, treated like s**t, made walk for miles, queue in a mud track for hours, queue for 90 minutes if they want a beer, march a few miles back after spending a few hours watching ignorant knackers beat the crap out of each other and then be left abandoned on an unlit country road. Stupid idiots will moan about anything.

So you spent roughly 4 hours yesterday queueing for drinks. Nice. Considering the gates opened around 2 and the bars closed at 10 you spent roughly half the day queueing for drink. Nice. Kudos on the drink driving too.

    * Do you think that people walking for hours after a gig along a pitch dark main road (with no communication from DB or AGS) is something you'd expect with your concert ticket and DB return ticket in hand? Do you find this acceptable?

i didnt expect it but it didnt surprize me or bother me too much.

Arrived at Slane at 3 and had very little problem getting into the place. Queued for about 10 mins for 2 pints and sat on the hill and drank them and got 2 more :) Didnt bother getting more once the queues became too long. Prodigy and Oasis were brilliant.

I had no problem with the walk from the barrier to the castle and back again. However after that it was a nightmare trying to get a bus. Everywhere was packed no bus was moving anywhere. Nobody was there to say where to go or what to do. We were told to keep walking by some bus drivers and then to walk back the other way by more. They didnt even bother using some of the floodlights they had on the side of the road. It took hours to get a bus and even then it was because a bus driver with an already full bus told us we could get on aswell.

    Great gig. Terrible organisation

Yeah, well done. Contradicting yourself in the one sentence isn't an easy feat without a serious amount of mental retardation.

Anyway, I'm glad you were happy to get ass-raped by MCD. Like most thick suckers in this country, you'd probably happily pay to be pissed on. Countries get the customer service they deserve and with so many people like you on this island, I suppose I shouldn't have been suprised about the organisation of the event.

    @sitec
It didn't bother you because you arranged a private bus (I'm assuming from your post above) and you missed it. You then knew where you stood.

Many of us were waiting on DB and didn't have a clue where we stood.

I do expect crowds. I do expect queues. I do expect delays. I don't expect the sort of confusion that I seen last night.
