Just toying with the idea of starting up a team based solely on the whole VN theme and im wondering how many people would be in favour of something like this.

so far the idea is pretty much to get a group of "Nammers" to get acquainted and to share info, sites, shops for original gear etc etc. it would be a team that members of others teams could join while still remaining on their current teams.

Lemmings visit to the Scotish event sparked the idea and since its a 4 part event it would be great if we could get together an Irish section of VN players for the rest of that and for future events.

Do we have enough people interested in vietnam style to do this do ya think?

If it works out and we have a decent amount of lads i might be able to source some bulk buys of gear from a contact in Vietnam where they have undoubtibly the best military surplus for this kinda gear. :)

    so wotcha think?

Even I'd take the plastic rifle over that.

all of which i can get no probs :) the black pj's are very cheap as are the sandals which are hand made from old tires. ak47's were the most common VC rifle but lots of their stuff was captured american gear. . Dave, you don't have to use an M16, there's xm177's, thompsons, M1 garand, the 60 etc.

Sounds interesting...I might pick up an M16 front end for my SPR. As I'm already saving for some VN Stanag mid caps.

Yeah that would be the idea, a milsim-semi milsim kinda thing. i think it would be an insult to the kit if we all ran around with hicaps to be honest.

The loadouts would have to be believable if not the originals. theres plenty of repro stuff out there anyway so it wont be a problem getting an accurate look.

theres loads of different guns you can get but the most common are,

M16A1, this is availible from Classic Army (lol) TM and G&P. you can also buy the G&P receiver alone and build the gun off pretty much any armalite. This should be the most common rifle of them all for the authentic look.

XM177, this is also availible from CA, TM, G&P and a couple of others. It uses pretty much the same receiver as the M16 only with diferent trades. the carry handle isnt removable like you'll see on a lot of modern ones. the colour of the receiver itself is slightly different on the real deal but thats probably being a little too pickey. This would really only have been used by the higher ranks and the special forces aswell as the M16A1 shorty which had the same barrel as this only with a regular birdcage flash hider. Tiger Stripe BDU's would be most suited to those using these guns.

M1A1 Thompson, this is another of the readily available ones and its pretty cheap too. you can buy wood kits for them for a more realistic look. you could also remove the black finish paint on them and blacken the receiver with a blow torch to get that realistic metal finish on them.

M60, these are a wet dream in airsoft and as everyone already knows, lemmings one is an absolute peach. however there is good news for those who are not gucci enough to spend the best part of 1.5K on an AEG. A&K are coming out withe their own version of this which looks really good from the pics. it wont beat the Inokatsu but hell, its a lot cheaper and looks authentic. :D

    M1911A1,
These are a pretty easy find. WE, Bell, TM, KJW etc etc all make versions of this gun. the Bell has the fanciest trade markings on it but its worth noting a lot of the ones used in nam only had the US trades and serial number so you'll get away with the WE no probs. these were carried by officers, medics and some others, in either leather shoulder holsters or leather pistol belt holsters.

Remington 870 shotguns were used but im not sure if theres an airsoft equivelent. you'd easily get away with using a mosberg M500 Gas shotgun though. beat it up a bit and make it look well loved. :D

M21 Sniper, which is really just an M14 with a scope so you'll have plenty to choose from. the G&G with real wood is the most realistic ive seen yet. you can also get them wooden stocks seperate and i think they fit the cyma and AGM.

Springfield something or other was another sniper rifle used and i think marushin make one of them. not 100% on that though.

MK2 type grenades are a must to hang off the ammo pouches for that realistic look. i posted a few pics in the off topic thread a while back of some really cheapo Mk2 looking bb bottles and with a lick of paint they'll look the part. you can buy them for 2 quid in donaghmede. :)

M72 LAW, these are available from Redwolf and look deadly. i dunno if they actually function but i saw them at the show in Germany. have to pick up one actually.

thats pretty much all the ones i can think of that are easily availible in airsoft form but theres loads more im sure.

As for NVA and VC stuff, all i know is, they were AK's. :D
After having a good play around with one of them real sword Ak's today im defo going to get a 47 and some black PJ's. the gun even smelled like the real deal.lol

If any of ya have any good links for vietnam kit, feel free to post them in here. :)

You've had me swetting all day since you mentioned this in work, and I even went and watched platoon over playing wow :O

Count me in, and I'm hoping, should the funds be there, to make the trip to both events in Sept and Nov...but atleast one.

And I will not be requiring a Helmet...as I am going with the bandana look :)

Great idea man count me in.

The only piece of kit I'm missing I badly want is the flackjacket...possibly some more accessories to put onto webbing( canteen, knife, pistol pouch)

My loadout will not be modeled on any past serving unit. I have a large array of "smiley faces" buttons, that will find there way onto my kit :)

Also trying to source some "Tropic Thunder" patches.

For those wondering about my loadout, although not as authentic and ****ing epic win as Richies, I did source mine online for reasonable pricing when you compare to the ebay market.

Currently have the webbing straps attached to an OD belt found lying around the shop. Attached to which are 4 ammo pouches with grenade pouches using "ALICE" clips ( I think) along with one buttpack.

This was all acquired from Ebay except the belt.

My OD uniform was acquired recently from a guy on ebay with a huge supply of VN OD and TigerStripe replica...I will prodominantly use the OD but I do have modern Tiger that might be a substitute.

Headgear I'm not going helmet because unfortunately online pricing is ridic for this, so I'm going with a simple red/black bandana...ala rambo/charlie sheen from platoon look.

Boots. I'm contempt with my magnums and an post boots, should a pair seem cheap enough to warrant it I might go for a pair.

Rifle. Bought a G&G plastica m16a3. Provided one of the soundest internal setups any money can buy, and they retail €190. Instantly bought the G&P body and G&P front end, still waiting on the front end but my rifle will be well sweet when its done.

Pistol. WE 1911. Although not the most reliable 1911, its trademarkless and has two mags so I'm ok using it the odd time.

Smokes. I will change to Marlboro red for VN events. :P

Other then that I will acquire kit as money sees it, although I cannot see any big purchases coming for the rest of the summer....but who knows what Masadas " contact" will provide :D

theres loads of the bayonets on ebay at the moment, do a search for "M8A1" or "M7".
Im cant remember what the boots were called but they were korean made and are still in production so their handy to get. i think mine cost about a fiver over there.

I'm getting another M1 lid that i can borrow ya, id give it to ya but im getting it as a gift from the guy who wore it then so it would be a bit disrespectful to pass it on again. :)

The canteens, you can get in army bargains. theres some replica stuff there too. in the 60's a lot of the soldiers would have extra canteen covers for holding mags so you can pick up a few of them on the cheap.
You'll get a decent pistol belt in there too for about a fiver.

Then Entrenching tool can be a difficult to find but theres no shortage of the tool pouches on ebay. then you can pick up one of these "Clone" VN entrenching tools from argos for 15 squid. its supposed to be black but other than that its identical to the US design. Nothing a lick of paint wont sort. :)
    http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/0180171/Trail/searchtext>SHOVEL.htm

The bandana you are looking for is actually a Neckerchief and would have been called a "Tropical Combat Neckerchief", if that helps ya find one.

have xm177..both tiger and od fatigues, only really need a helmet, 1911 and boots (which i had for my aliens kit but cant bloody find)

obvious accessories....od towel (cmon you know its mandatory), as the doc says marlboro but in 10 pack, death card and the mosquito and or foot rot bottle for the band of the helmet....

great idea masada....needs to be done. must start watching tour of duty again!!

Looking good guys! But may I suggest something? We could use the old thread here:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055469927&highlight=vietnam

for discussing loadout progress / weapons etc, and keep this one for discussing the team / events etc. The above thread already has shed loads of links for getting your gear together, it just seems to have died off. Time to resurrect it? :)

If this gets off the ground, it'll be EPIC!!!

Exactly my point, but they go hand in hand no?

Anyway, just a thought. BTW Doc, original 'Nam-era M1 helmets can be had on ebay for around $30! I'm bidding on one right now, it started out at $10!

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,128 ✭✭✭✭TheDoc

Yeah I just dont think im going helmet tbh, because like everyone goes with a helmet or boonie :)

Thanks for the info Richie a man of great knowledge.

However I just basically cut an old t-shirt and wrapped it around my head, works a charm

    platoon1-1024.jpg

The item there worn by Ellias and the new york kid below him.

I guess it sohuld be kinda discussed about the knife/bayonet issue.

Not to get safety soft, but is there not new legislation that might hamper the import of a blade? And also I assume there would be epic whinge from people if you had it out on a site obviously.

Looking at the normal issue bayonet but also...a big **** off rambo knife, with compass, needle and all :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,363 ✭✭✭gerrowadat

There's also the issue of being able to get an M60, and having to stand beside Lemming with The Pig and look like a piece of crap.

rubber knife...only good for cutting rubber chickens...

    anyways

on the shotty thing...this is really close

    be-m500F-01.JPG

a bit of scrubbing here, a bit of wet'n'dry there and you too can use the lines like

'hey, i like it here, you get to do what you want, no one fracks with you'
    or
'did you hear the commies are putting chemicals in the grass, to make us pacifists n stuff'

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,758 ✭✭✭Stercus Accidit

You can get the m870 springer lads for 30 quid or so :D

Full metal and all, gunner have it, and gunfire.pl

Also, the main issue with the rubber knives happens when some idiot tries to use one on you, jabbing you with it, not just having them on your kit, but the issue there is, how does someone know you aren't the type of idiot to try and jab someone with it?

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,128 ✭✭✭✭TheDoc

I'd considered "glueing" or "taping" the knife to the holster, so its basically just showing the butt handle

Or painting the rubber blade some mad colour.

Thought as much myself, pity, as its a nice add-on to the loadout.

Feck it, I might put a nam loadout together, would be on the cheap though, if we had the weather and all that would be great :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,041 ✭✭✭José Alaninho

TBH though, VC would be more fun:D

To be honest, and i dont get why anyone else hasn't said it in the past.
But I would deal with these people with the same justification as we have been using in airsoft for a long time, the user is responsible for the use/misuse of the item. Not the item itself. banning the bayonets from airsoft is in effect copying the logic of the "joe crew" who want airsoft banned coz criminals are killing each other with real guns.
I'm in favour of keeping the loadouts as accurate as possible and providing its in accordance with the law i have no problem with having these bayonets as part of our loadouts.

Sorry to take this off topic like this but id like to nuke the whole questioning over the carrying of these bayonets before the thread goes way off topic. :)

A quick question for those familiar with the real sword AKs, do they do a normal wood stock version of the AK 47? ive seen te type 56 foldy stock thingy and my god thats realistic. even smells of real gun.
I'd be looking for an Ak for a VC loadout but it'll have to be a full stock 47. :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,758 ✭✭✭Stercus Accidit

    Check the real sword website.

I don't give a damn about bayonets, I'm just echoing the sentiment that has been shown before, after all, its airsoft, the shooting game, not stab soft :D

    Check the real sword website.

LOL, theres no way im gonna go researching for AKs again. theres too much info out there and to many types. :D

Id go for either the Real Sword or a Unicorn if they do the type im after. I saw Fiach's one a few months ago and thats a fine piece too. :)
