to be honest I'm at the point now where I want to throw it out into the snow....!!!!

It has just stopped working. The screen is frozen on the last song I listened to. It has the light on and all as though its working...but it aint budging!!! I tried pressing the play button and trying to switch it off but nothing is happening....

Hold down the centre and top button together for a few seconds and it will reset. I assume this works with a Nano, it works with my older ipod anyway.

According to Apple, the method of resetting an iPod varies from model to model. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1320

Try charging the iPod as well.
