I got 4 pairs of walking socks from Millets in town yesterday. I think only one pair of them are black but the rest are dark blue and grey so I think they will allow it.

Millett's in Belfast sell army socks, but apparently these are kinda pricey.

Someone on the Feb 1 thread mentioned about getting them from Help the Aged.

I think its worth a few quid when you are talking about your feet.

Oh all this talk is getting me excited.

Yeah i agree, last thing you want at start of training is your feet in agony. Wish it was 8th Mrach till we get stuck in

Does anybody know following are 4 week residential period, when travelling to and from the house of fun, can we wear our normal clothes or does it have to be business dress i.e suits etc

The suits are only for our first week or so while we are waiting for our uniform to arrive. We are to be in uniform during most of our training, so I would imagine travelling to Garnerville in civies and getting changed into uniform on arrival.

    that was me

    http://www.helptheagedshop.co.uk/modules/shop/hta_view.asp?catid=278&Prodcode=HA3497

these are the same quality/standard as commando socks that you'll get from millets, army surplus shop etc but they are 1/3rd of the price, as i said before there is no option to choose colour so out of the 7 pair i ordered, only 5 were dark coloured, but still worked out well. bear in mind that DARK coloured socks only are allowed.

Your 81??? Wow, you should be so proud of yourself! Most OAP's just sit about sucking Werther's Original's and watching Take It Or Leave It (they love Richard Arnold).

Anyway, Buck up your ideas blues!!! The amount of posts on the green thread is creeping up! :P

P.S I'm 27. Which I just realised could make me one of the "elders". Amazing. All you young whippersnappers who wanna be policemen and women. Grow up. :P

i have seen a few people get black socks, but when you looked closer at them you would have seen that they werent black but actually very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very dark blue.

just throwin it out there for people to be wary of that sort of thing.

Ok so I can gather from the thread that 32 is the oldest so far?? That would make me the oldest by a couple of years........unfortunatley!! I'll be a whopping 35 this year.......just look for the grey hair, and remember to respect your elders.

I handed in my notice yesterday. Going to finish work on Fri 13th of Feb, and no I aint supersticious!

Really looking forward to meeting all you guys n girls at induction night.

That's true. I thought my Uncle Tommy was wearing black socks, but when I looked at them closely, they were just very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very dark blue.

i'm pretty sure, from what i've read on the boards, that if you live a good distance away you can stay but i'm not sure what the deal is if you live close(ish)

If you have a suitable reason (ie. you do not live locally) you will normally be allowed to stay on beyond the four weeks. It's all considered on a case by case basis. Therr will be limits to how many will be allowed to stay on as they only have so many dorms and a new intake starts every 5 weeks. If you think that you'll need to stay beyond the 4 weeks, then I reccommend that you ask early.

One of these days someone is going to ask you a question you can't answer Mr Carlty:)

How did the run go tonight.

That's true. I can guarantee that it'll happen at Garnerville on more than one occassion.

The run? More like stagger! I had to rely on DownMTber and Silver_X dragging me along. At least I'm not complaining about sore legs... but that's only because I can't feel them!

So I was talking to my mate last night about this awful 3mile run. We will have to do it in week 5.

They expect us to run it in under 35 mins but it is not part of any assessment. So the most you will get is a telling off if you go over the time limit.

funny how he didnt have to wait nearly 1 year just to find out his vetting was ongoing, and the wait a further few months waitin on the correct intake to find out he didnt get in at all. not to mention having to wait ages on the results to his medical (which im sure he had to do for this job) and the results of his smt which arrived seperatly nearly a month after they were supposed to.

oh well. wot can you do. i suppose if i was Sir penis eye i would maybe get through the recruitment process quicker!!!
