My band recently supported a band called and so i watch you from afar, in th whiskey in Cork. They have just been signed by the same label that has hooray for humans. I honestly thought that it was one of the best gigs i have ever been to. And it was a real honour having the chance to support them. They are from Belfast. Relly really good band

You can't really count MBV as an Indie band these days can you?

Not that they aren't absolutely amazing.

Well Kevin Shields was born in America but grew up in Ireland so let's say he's Irish. :D

Although they were always based in London weren't they?

Yes, and did all their recording there signed to UK labels and 2 members were English including the singer.

Could one argue that they are in fact an English band?

No man who wants to win an argument starts his retort with "Well according to hotpress" !

I was unaware they recorded here. Do you have information regarding this?

That name rings a bell .... did I hear them being mentioned on tv in the last few days?

They just released their 1st album, so what you heard was probably part of the post release media drive.

probably not the best thing to say to someone doing an internship in hotpress, when you are making money writing for a music magazine and are a sound engineer come back and argue about music with me then until then well...

I believe she is. Dear oh dear - 18 and knows it all obviously.

HouseHippo - I don't think PaulBrewer was arguing with you necessarily, he was just wondering which stuff MBV had recorded in Ireland. Have to say I'm interested myself as I thought they recorded mostly in England. Also I suggest you check out his profile, you may find he knows quite a bit about music - not that you have to work in music production to be able to discuss a band at all.

Also while you may well be doing an internship in Hotpress you should know that it's not very well regarded these days no matter what they staff there may think. But it's obviously good to get in somewhere if music is your thing so fair play to ya.

I saw a band called Touch Wood last summer that really blew me away. Just a bunch of kids that rwrite/perfom their own material.

There wasn't really an argument at all. :)

I'm still wondering about MBV recording in Ireland though. HouseHippo - do you know where they recorded?

    Deacon Blue?

Might I point out neither Indie nor Irish?
