How do you go about getting a grant for a mature student? Is it too late at this stage?

EDIT: is this the new timetable or the old one?
    http://www.dcu.ie/timetables/feed.php3?prog=CS&per=1&week1=1&week2=12&hour=1-20&template=student

In relation to the grant, although technically the deadline has passed for applications, the County Councils or VECs will sometimes accept late applications but it is at their complete discretion.

You should ring your local County Council, ask to be put through to the Higher Education Grants section and explain your situation. If they are willing to assess your application they will send you out the application form.

    You will need:

    End of 2007 P21, P60 or P45
    Proof of address
    Long form Birth Certificate
Details of spouse income (if applicable)
Details of Social Welfare benefits (if applicable)

It can take up to 8 weeks to process an application. The grant will also cover the Registration Fee, however you are required to pay this if your grant application is yet to be processed and it will be refunded to you if you are successful.

Any questions please feel free to PM me.

Also there are a number of other funding schemes available depending on where you live and your financial status, such as Community Partnership grants administered by KWCD (http://www.kwcd.ie/) ....these can cover costs such as books, bus tickets and meals while studying. These are open to all not just mature students.

Depressing I know, I was hoping for Fridays off

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 237 ✭✭goodgodholmes

You may still have Fridays off, there are 3 groups for the Sociology seminar.

Groups 2 and 3 have their seminar on Friday but Group 1 will have it on Thursday, leaving Friday free.

In first year the groups are generally alphabetical (I think Group 1 for our class was surnames A-H). Your surname dictates your timetable, how annoying!

It might not work the same way this year though so don't quote me on that!

    Question:
Is everyone's student number identical to their CAO number?
Mine has a 5 at the start instead of a 0
    >_O
    i.e. "58.....", not "08...."

You could asked to be moved on the basis of necessity of work to pay your way through college,,,,you should speak to your Mature Student Advisor. Are you going to the MS Orientation on the 15th??

Ha, just spent the past while reading back the entire topic, completely mad! Never thought in a million years I'd stumble across something like this before college!

What'll be even better is all of us reading back on this topic this time next year when we'll all have known each other by then (hopefully!)

Just to point out that you have to have a student card and membership of the bar to actually get into it (I believe)
