Not that I want to be the Daddy of the class but CA can equally be a pain especially if you leave everything to the last moment. Take it from someone who has done the college thing before!!

College lecturers don't coordinate assignment due dates so it's quite possible that a number could be due the same week piling on a lot of pressure so organization is key!!

Maybe one of the CS2's could tell us if there is much pressure....maybe it's ok for first year...or maybe DCU is highly organized. If not, and there is pressure we would need an 'on the ball' class rep.

Or we could just have to cruise through first year which I doubt

What is the jazz with class reps etc? x

Call it CS, CA is Computer Apps :P

And, although I wouldn't recommend leaving everything to the last minute, it's absolutely inevitable. Everybody does it (unless you're super-organised).

Throughout the semester, there isn't a whole lot of pressure, but like you say, assignments tend to by very dry on the ground for a while, and then at the end of the semester you've got loads to attend to at the one time. They never have two assignments due on the one day, there's usually about three or four days between the due dates of each assignment. (So if you're anything like me, and leave everything to the last minute, there's a few days to do everything). To be honest, I got by fine leaving everything to the last minute, but I cope well with pressure and some people need the extra time before that, because if they were as last minute as me they'd become too burdened by stress and not get anything done.

Also Debbie Ging, the head of CS, is very understanding. I think it happened on two occasions last year that we had two assignments due the same day and she sorted it out for us and got us a few days' gap.

My problem is that I got really involved in Drama Soc and spent quite a lot of time in rehearsals for various shows, and towards the end of the semester (coming up to a big show) the rehearsal schedule got really intense right around the time assignments were due. It was stressful (especially cos I was working as well), but doable. I did have to ask for an extension though, some lecturers have no problems giving you a few days leeway on the deadline, others are strict. Depends on who it is.

Still, I got a 2:1 in the year, very surprising considering I was a stereotypically lazy student!

Oh it still does, slight oversight on my part! Whoops...

Also when they say "continuous assessment" it means assignments rather than exams, so you're still basically left a chunk to do at the end of semester, nothing continuous about it at all!

Man, this sucks. You're all gonna recognize each other on day one.
Maybe I should get bebo.... Or maybe a weird first day people-scavenger hunt would be more fun. Decisions, decisions.
