Rooney will certainly have to shut the f*ck up for the first few matches. Hopefully Fergie has intimated same to him...

First goal for Arsenal and the new season is born and on a day that is only suitable for staying in in front of the TV :D

Funny to see nobody wants Liverpool to win but don't actually pick against them. Its Dunphyism at its greatest.
    It's called a draw Bill

****ing hell... Arsenal living dangerously. Alumia made a fantastic save and then the rebound was cleared off the line. WBA are going to get a result here if Arsenal don't up the tempo.

and Adebayor just missed a one on one...

WBA's attack is sh*te... giving no thought at all, head down, hitting and hoping.

Gallas was handling the striker easily too.

    Nasri is looking pretty comfortable.

Eboue should never be allowed to shoot.

WBA look like they'll do ok in this league, they've done themselves proud today, even if they don't win.

Arsenal look good, but ultimately are lacking without Fabregas. So many times I saw the central midfielder with the ball and an attacker wide open but the right pass wasn't made. Fabregas would make that pass. Defensively look pretty sound as well, Sagna makes the difference. Arsenal to start a 6 game win run now if they win this game. [Fulham, Newcastle, Blackburn, Hull, Sunderland]

I dunno. what I saw today was a team well capable of it, but scared to. maybe they'll settle into it a bit as the season goes on but their failure to even try and support their front man even in the dying minutes of the game says a lot imo. they had a reputation last year for scoring more goals than the opposition, but this year it looks to be all about containment.

that and their centre midfield seem to be non-existent at times.

Boro vs Spurs is on Setanta Sports 1 now (as is Sunderland vs Pool @ 5.30pm)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,604 ✭✭✭herbieflowers

So are Setanta Ireland showing many games this season? Is it every couple of weeks? And was RTE's showing of matches live at 3pm on Saturdays a few seasons back only a one-year contract?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

    That's exciting stuff from Spurs

RTE showing matches was an agreement with Setanta. I think Setanta were using it to test the market, using RTE to get more people watching the Premiership (as to watch Setanta Ireland you needed some kind of cable or digital package already) in the hope it would yield more subscriptions when they become established.

i know people like to write off Arsenal, but that's taking it to new ridiculous levels, Mike.

    Goal disallowed for Boro

    Dunno why

    edit:

Yes I do... Dawson swinging out of Wheater (ripping his shirt in the process) for a corner, and the ref saw it as the opposite
