From that score I definitely need to start pulling my socks up.
    Queue Rockie music.......................

Well done to everyone through to the next phase and my the force be with you.

letters sent out in a few weeks time!

I actually can't believe im in a position where I am hoping for a letter to say I am in, never thought it would happen.

Have to say though, dont want to build my hopes up for anything incase.

I wonder if there is some connection between the date of your medical being completed and the date you are given to start, i.e people who did medicals in Feb and have been waiting since then are likely to be August, and people who did them April/May will be waiting to Autumn to get a call?

Yeah i phoned because i hadn't heard anything since my medical result about 6 weeks previous. The woman on the phone was very helpful and friendly so i would consider ringing them.

can you please give me some info regarding, shifts and avaiulability of overtime etc???
    i would appreciate it alot..
    cheers buddy
ps. hopefully i'll be joining ya on the beat in a couple of months not years...

hey pedro, a friend of mine is in the PSNI and he's told me you usually do early (6am-3pm) day (12pm-9pm) and night (9pm-6am) shifts rotated over weeks, you could also be required to do four 12 hour shifts to cover your week, you'll get 1 weekend a month off but your 2 (or 3) days off a mid-week will always be together, there's also been a serious cutback in overtime and only senior constables are really getting it.

however as PSNI said this could vary from district to district

    Hi everyone,

For those lucky enough to progress to the assessment centre the advised dress code is:

*Suit/shirt and tie for the fellas
    *Dressy trousers/shirt or dressy jumper

I know there has been disagreements in the past about this, but I have heard from an No:1 source that smart atire is best, although it is your personal choice.

    Dress smart, act smart!!!
Dress to impress, you will impress!!!!

    All the best :)

Heyo.Passed stage ine and invited for part two near end if July.Do they give any indication as to how you score in stage one.I thought I failed as I threw in more than a few wild guesses for section two. Also,is stage two a casual or a fromal thing?

    Zerocoolio,

As PYG has already mentioned, I would also advise you to wear smart attire to the AC. Believe me, you'll stand out in jeans and t-shirt; for the wrong reasons! I've said it before, you are applying to a uniformed organisation, so your appearance should reflect that you already possess high personal standards.

will they not think a suit is too formal tho? 2bh i wore jeans and a t shirt to c13 AC and thought i was lightly underdressed but at the same time it isnt a formal interview?

    Hi folks,

thanks to JVB I've been reading this Forum for some time now so thought it was time to finally pop my posting cherry.

Firstly congrats to all those who have so far been successful in C13, as that's where I started I know it's been a long slog. For those in C14, hang in there I'm sure it will all be worth it.

To give you an indication of how long I can only share my progress :

    Aug 07 -IST
    Oct 07 -AC
Nov 07 -Med fail on the day
    Nov 07 -Med re-test pass
Jan 08 -Informed failed Med (Different reason)
    Feb 08 -Appealed Med decision
    Mar 08 - Successful appeal
    Apr 08 -IST C14
Apr 08 - Offered start date May 08
May 08 - Deferred start due to pre-booked holiday
    Jul 08 - AC C14
    Aug 08 - Start GV

My background is RC and I had a merit pool number of +350. Although I've been offered a start in Aug I'll still be attending AC in Jul. This is because, having spoken to Recruitment they advise to continue just in case there are any changes in personal circumstances that would prevent an Aug start.
Hope this helps anyone worrying about a day here or there as they make no difference in the long run

Stick with it and I'll see you there.

Just phoned recruitment, and all they could tell me was my merit number again and said they couldnt tell me anything else even if my vetting was done or not, though i phoned them about 2 months ago and they told me my vetting was still ongoing:confused:, they just said i will just have to wait to hear from them.

    Cheers Lee,

vetting was compiled in Nov/Dec, it came with a note saying first intake would be Jan 08 so somewhat got my hopes up. I should have known better.

I think everyone gets there hopes up i did to, but never give up if you want something, think my vetting went in dec or jan so hopefully its done.

Might be reading to much into it but hopefully the reason why the recruitment wouldnt tell me anything is because it had a great big pass on her screen and their gonna let me in Aug intake lol:rolleyes:

given1. To be completely honest, it is a personal preference what you wear. I believe that, when applying for the PSNI or any armed forces, your dress and deportment should reflect the fact that service to which you hope to join to is a uniformed, disciplined service. As has been mentioned on here before, stay grey. This means don't give them anything negative to remember you by.

Why run the risk of appearing untidy if you have a shirt and tie in your wardrobe anyway? Again it is only my opinion, and yes, you are only being assessed on the competencies outlined in the agenda for the AC; but I have been a recruitment officer for 3 years ;) and as anyone in recruitment or careers will advise you, first impressions count.

Good luck (whatever you wear :D)

Good advice as always, i would wear a suit, it makes me feel good about myself therefore more confident and it makes it easier to play any role you are given

thanks JVB, i shall take your advice greatly, i suppose its makes a change wearing my suit at something other than funerals weddings and christenings:D

I'll second that, I've always found that if you think you look smart, you'll feel better for it and it will always give you an added lift on the day.

Also I find that once the suit is on, people always treat you a bit different, maybe it's a perception thing but I always find that anyway!

    Hey all.

Very pleassed to inform you that i have PASSED my IST :D just received my letter there today. i totally wasnt expecting it so soon, after all you guys in for the full wait.

i done my test on 19th May. and received the letter today! 29th. just 8 working days after i done the test!:D

im well chuffed, especially since this is my first time ever applying =] :D

i am so nervous about the assessment centre now though, as i dont know what to expect :p lol

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 120 ✭✭TangoVictor

Well done to stephen142 im sure your brickin it about the AC as much as me.
Well I have to say i only ever applied to join just to see what would happen and because, well, its free! I done my IST on 13th May and just got the letter today.
I really wasnt expecting it because like stephen I expected the full 20 days same like everyone else. They must getting to the end of applicants now which is why ours came early?
Anyways Im delighted to say that I passed but im looking foward to the AC because I think thats were I'll get a chance to show what I can do... not a big fan of really tight time limits to questions Ive not got a clue too so happy that part is done and dusted.

To anyone that might be interested I have to say that the last 'couple' (by couple I mean at least 10) answers on the IST i completely, randomly filled in the little circle. So did a friend of mine who sat a worrying close distance to me. So hopefully she done ok too!!

    Good Luck to Dorothy!!

    TangoVictor out! :D

I can assure you all that what you wear on the day does NOT make the slightest bit of difference. If those who are marking your performance are looking at what you are wearing then they are not doing their jobs. Everyone has the green sheet. What is on that sheet is all that matters, and it says absolutely nothing about appearance. Jeans and T shirt are fine
