vote4pedro,I don't think he meant to generalise his point,of course Rover's fans are not all hooligans.Just like Rangers fans aren't ALL hooligans, but the element exists.Karlitos,it does kind of look like your saying all Rovers etc fans are hooligans, but I know that isn't what you meant! :)

But can you really say that element exists when there hasn't been an incident in about three years? Certaintly it isn't fair to make the type of statement that Karlitos made.

But no, football hooliganism hasn't really taken off here and it won't either. There isn't a big enough base of fans to draw a hooligan element from of any semi-major kind, what goes on on a GAA pitch would be more cause for concern.

Yeah Good Guys Wear Black is good stuff,Trojan Files too.Did you read the follow up to Good Guys[..]?
Would you ever go for CO19 as a matter of interest?

On-topic,football hooliganism hasn't really gripped Ireland, and I dn't think it will.Minor scuffles maybe but nothing as bad as Manchester!

One of the guys on my old team has just gotten onto a training course for 19. There's quite a high failure rate on the course apparently.

My career plans at the moment are a bit up in the air but I do fancy tactical firearms at some point. As Jon Anderton will no doubt tell you its not as sexy as it looks though!

    Right so Pedro,
What your saying in full is that as a Shamrock rovers fan you know far more about policing and incidents that take place across the country than a police officer that actually deals with the hooligans on a weekly basis.

Im trying to be decent about this but lets be honest, how the **** do you know what fans do and dont get upto before and after matches? Do you watch all the fans? have a helicopter and radio to keep in touch with various factions? Have briefings and debriefings?

I bet there were a lot of Rangers fans that didnt have a clue there was trouble in Manchester but that doesnt mean there wasnt.

If you were informed even half as much as you think you would be aware of the paper articles showing that there are more Gardai on duty at your home matches than a full Croke park!

And yes, I will single out Rovers because they are always the common denominator in the fights that take place around Dublin city centre but hell, what would I know? You say that 'fans' didnt stand on me or kick me while I was on the ground on North earl street so it must not have happened!

Do you not understand how close knit communities of fans are? When there was trouble, I heard about it, we all did. We often knew the people involved. Shamrock Rovers has been owned and run by the fans for three seasons now, and in that time there hasn't been a hooligan incident of any kind, thanks in no small part to the people in charge know who would be involved.

And again we have another case of you showing off a rather sad sense of self-importance. You deal with hooligan related incidents every week do you? Really, you deal with these hooligans every week?

And by the way "the various factions" you talk of usually consists of a group of 10/15 scumbag kids who you have to keep an eye on. Lets not go pretending we're dealing with some sort of sophisticated terror group now, eh?
As eroo said above its mainly been minor scuffles, with a few isolated exceptions. In the main the policing of such games has been pretty good, though OTT when it comes to big Dublin derbies, and Rovers have very good relations with the local garda station. Quite why you're sensationalising it in the way you are is strange.

When were you attacked or kicked on the ground by Shamrock Rovers fans?
If you were actually involved in any sort of role in this, you'd know that Rovers are no longer "the common denominator", and haven't been for some time. In fact its pretty common knowledge that the "big" ( ) problem in regards hooliganism has been with Bohemians in recent years, and a buch of bebo based schooligans who generally act like little scrotes.

More Gardaí at our home matches than a full Croke Park is there? There were 1,301 people at our last home game. If you think that requires more police than 85,000, is that not a sad indictment of how you go about crowd control.
Besides, again, you're incorrect and trying to inflate your own importance/knowledge. At our last home game I counted maybe four Gardaí outside the turnstiles, three at the top of Richmond Road and two pairs of cops inside the ground.
Im quite sure there were more around, but I'd be very surprised if there were as many as 20 officers involved on the ground on match day. So, there will be 20 Gardaí on duty to watch the 70odd thousand football fans next Saturday for the game against Serbia?

Between mentioning "Shamrock", talking of hooligan incidents occuring weekly, and thinking that there is some sort of hooligan problem at Shamrock Rovers, I can't help but get the feeling you're talking out of your proverbial.

OK we've gone way off topic with this one. It's obvious the two of you have different points of view, and that's fine. There are other forums on boards to exchange your points of view on football clubs and fans. If you want to debate this further, take it to The Thunderdome. The story is now yesterday's news.
