there is no fitness test as such,i was expecting one at some stage also but never had to do one,the medical however provides an indication of your general health and therefore your potential to be fit,the fitness work begins at garnerville.

cheers for the info, I had visions of beep tests and all sorts. The fun comes once you get in then :p

hey guys quick question for those already started in hotel garneville! I have my induction night on the 12th of May and was looking for advise as to how you should dress, is a suit nessesary or is it more casual? Aslo same question regarding the first day of training since you dont have the uniform yet is a suit nessesary?

Had the IST this morn! :eek:Part A was grand, but part B was a different story! :( I think I did ok but I wouldnt be confident. Didnt finish it, missed about 5 questions and I had a stopwatch with me too! Time will tell. I did think it was a bit too hard. Who designs these things anyways!? I read on here that they're designed for the general population not to finish!
Has part B been the same format over the years? I think that its very conjested. Are we allowed to discuss this PSNI? Im not really pointing anything out that I shouldn't??
Consensia told us that it would take 20 days or a month to find out our results. Think someone said on here that it's sooner if its a fail! I hope not to get any mail for a few weeks then! Oh yeah I didnt notice any other DL regs in the carpark!!

check out the 'starting in garnerville' thread made by psni,he advises that you bring a suit to the first day and maybe a few other shirts and ties incase your uniform isn't ready.

i don't know about the SRN,raging i won't be there on may 12th,but look forward to meeting all the fellow recruits on may 25th.

I think there are campaign 13 intakes up until november. Im not in the PSNI and dont know for sure but it appears like it will be around then. so still a bit of time.

About the SRN night, from what others have said, yes you do need a suit. So go and get one. If i ever get in I will have to buy one too. :D

Yes you can let people your thoughts on the IST, but you cannot give away any specific details.

Out of interest, why not? Surely it's in the public domain, in as much as the public were invited to participate in this test, and so are presumably free to talk about it amongst themselves, including on an online forum. I'm not encouraging it, just wondered what the deal is, any ethics pertaining to it aside. If you don't want to explain here, a PM will do nicely and you can delete this post.

January I think or maybe Feb. Apparently the first intake for campaign 14 is Jan 09

I had no idea the intake for C14 was so late. I just assumed it would be around oct/nov.

Boards.ie would probably get into trouble if test details got posted here and rightfully so as that would completely defeat the purpose of the test. How many people actually know some one personally who has done the IST before them?

Anyway I don't think anyone would remember too much about the test to be able to afford anyone else that advantage.

As far as I know the recruitment process has changed over the years and the physical fitness test was removed as a form of selection because apparently female candidate's would be put off by this. I think if you pass the medical you should be grand in terms of fitness but I'm sure a pass in the medical won't necessarily mean you will find the physical fitness side of training easy.

Surprisingly firearms handling was also a part of the recruitment process in the earlier days of PSNI recruitment but that has also been removed.

Well Jan / Feb was the start of campaign 13 intakes. A few only went in on the Jan one as far as i know.

So we have had jan = 25 say. Feb 50, march, 50, april 50, may 50,

So there still August, September, october, november. Dont know if December has an intake due to christmas etc, so a mix of campaign 13 and 14 could be in on Jan together.

Anyways give or take a little, there will be intakes for campaign 13 until november I would think, and campaign 14 from December or Jan onwards.

Maybe someone who knows the way they work it can answer better but thats my thoughts on it.

Yea when you look at it like that January seems pretty realistic when you take C13 into consideration and then of course there is also medicals and vetting. I should probably just focus on my IST atm anyway and not worry about intakes lol!

No point worrying about it just do your best, dont think you will have any problems. Keep cool and stay calm. When do you have it?

I have my IST in mid May and as far as I know there are no IST's later than this so I have still got time to read the advise as it appears on this thread :D

Does any one now if trainees are selected purley on a combinaton of their IST and AC scores or do other factors come into it? Does the Chief Constable still select the trainee's from the pool or is that role with consensia now?

I always found that clause about the Chief Constable a bit off - how can it be all fair and fine if at the end of the day, the selection is made by him, in private? You don't ask the Chief questions and they say as much on the website. This, in my view, undermines the process, or at least what they are trying to do.

I dont think he actually sits down at night and looks to see who will be selected for the next months intake. The recruitment branch are given guidelines and told what to do and Its probably all done through them.

Do the PSNI have a recruitment branch? I would think that the CC would select each trainee himself becasue its a very important process and some of his slections may well still be serving lon after he has gone but that is just my opinion. I wonder what he base's his decision on. Why does he get to make this decision? Are places not awared to the highest achieveres in the different tests?

Just wondering for any of you who have been to the medical. Do they weigh you fully clothed with shoes on, or do you strip down for it?

Also when you give them the medical questionaire, do they talk to you there and then about any past conditions or do they look at it later and just get back to you.

I had a broken bone about 8 years ago and the doctor gave me no extra info for it, surely they wouldnt want any for it, I mean what can you provide for that? It broke, and now its healed! :D

Shoes off, clothes on! Nurse will ask you some questions, doc will go through questionnaire :)

in honesty,i very much doubt that the chief constable sits down with his pen and glasses on shredding through each candidates credentials,it is only speculation but i would assume that his role in the process would be to 'rubber stamp' any recruits.consensia puts to him a list of individuals who have passed everything then the chief simply says yes.

Either way It shouldn't make a difference who makes that final decision and if it is the Chief Constable that makes it then that is no probelm as I'm sure there is no better person to make that decision given his position in the service etc

    Thanks for the reply PSNI.

whats all this craic about the Chief Constable stamping recruits forms? When recruits pass all the selections tests, i.e. ist, ac, vetting, medical, pct are they given the stamp just authorising that they are accepted into training by the CC?

My mates IST is at 4pm and I'm at 6pm on the same date, we're car pooling from the South, do the exam supervisors mind you waiting around for each other?

Depends where your doing it I suppose. I've had a few different venues. Some are buildings open to the public and would have areas totally unconnected to the IST so you could wait there. Others aren't really so there wouldnt be anywhere to wait except with the candidates. Suppose you could just ask on the day.
