    Re: mealone42,
Its no wonder your user name is me alone, your views are very narrow minded. The police force in NI is now the PSNI for that very reason - trying to make a change for the better and move on from the days of sectarianism. Its gonna take time, but at least its happening. I'm from the south and just want to do this job, I dont care which i join - the PSNI or an Garda Siochana.

This is the type of person you will have to deal with in your career as a police officer and more so depending on the area you are stationed. So its a part of the job you will all have to accept.

You are right! Unfortunately this is just one the realties of the job but I think it should be seen as a challenge like many other aspects of the job. Anyway with time peoples attitudes may change when they begin to see the good work the PSNI does.

Going off topic here so won’t babble on. .

    Evening Folks,

I have to say, the more I read through this forum, the more difficult I am finding it to be excited about the prospect of becoming a PSNI officer. Don't get me wrong, I think the job would be fantastic...BUT the process just seems to take so long. To be honest I think its ridiculous that there are people from C13 who still are left wondering what will happen next, and yet Consensia have just launched a new campaign.

I really want to be a police officer and I really want to be successful in C14. Problem is I have just been offered an amazing opportunity to spend 9 weeks of the summer in the US...and its looking more and more tempting. Its a pretty depressing thought that I could be sitting here this time next year still in Campaign 14! Any thoughts? Shouls I turn down the chance to go to the US? Or should I go for it and reapply to the Police in the next campaign. Im 20 by the way. All advice appreciated!

If you do your assessment centre before you head off to America then you can still go for 9 weeks, and still be in the police campaign. Best of both worlds.

any night owls out tooting tonight or are they all out chasing the other birds!? :Dwhat is the qualification obtained after all the training for the psni? Is it Diploma, degree? While training, do you have to keep a diary of what you do every day and what you learn along the way?

I think C13 was a bit of an anomaly, as the way the PSNI recruits was changed halfway through, ie. changing from two campaigns a year to one, and changes in who gets the medical and vetting etc. I get the feeling that some administrative headaches were probably caused by this. May be much quicker. Although, just my opinion, don't have anything concrete to base that on... However, at twenty, I'd probably advise you to travel a bit, I don't know you personally, but thats what I'd tell a twenty year old mate.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

In reality, the actual test parts are only 20 and 25 mins respectively. The other time is spent listening to the instructions and the practice questions.

Part a is tough and Part b is a stinker. Watch your time, at my test they didnt say 5 mins left or anything like that which I heard a few people muttering about as we were leaving.

At this point its probably too late for you to get any of the books that help with practice for the test but apparently if you google pyschometric testing etc it will throw up a few sites that have similar practice questions that might help.
The practice questions on Consensias website are alright but in my opinion what you get on the day is much much harder.

    Good luck!

i know what i would do mate, pack your suitcase and get yourself to the usa. you're young and you can join later. if you are desperate to be a police officer i would also consider joining a mainland force.

    Agreed Pezza!

Chatterbox, See if you can work both, and if not, go to USA otherwise you could very well regret it of C14 doesnt work out for you, and possibly even if it does.

Does anyone have any idea of the AC timeframe? I know theres a general one on consentia website but just wondering if anyone has any idea if they will still be running in sept? thanks

To be honest I think thats pretty standard. I know a girl who had gone the entire way through two campaigns and was just starting the third before she was finally accepted. Although that was back when they had two a year instead of one.

Yea from what I've read on this thread it seems like most people in the service or the people in training have been through more than one campaign. Oh well!

And myself, i've got the apptitude test next week and i'm still waiting to hear for C13, but then thats just the way it is. If you really want the job you'll be patient and go through it each time you need to.

Saying that, i'm just crossing my fingers everything works out ok for me, I dont even want to think about waiting this long to get where I am now and then having to do that all over again. But as I said, thats all there is for it so no choice really :D

Yea having to go through the whole process of tests and waiting for a second time would be a nightmare but your right, if you really want the job you will be patient and wait.

I wonder why people seem to have a better chance of getting a place at their second stab because its a fair process etc and consensia probably wouldn't even know if you applied before  people must just improve so much between campaigns are just have a better idea of what to expect.

Anyway goodluck with the C13 :D

Ist tomorrow morn! oh boy! Think im going to be as ready as I can? One test is 20 mins and the other is 25mins. Do we get to keep working on once we finish part A or are do we have to wait for everyone else before we start part B? I think it would be better if it was all at once but i'm guessing there will be a break between each?

You'll probably have done the test by the time you read this but you do part one first, then when the time is up they read the next set of instructions to everybody and you all do part two.

A great tip I read on here but its worth saying again.

When you are doing section B, dont bother going through the example with the speaker, use the time to study the data card and get used to what is on it, and where it is located so it wont seem like a puzzle with the first question when you dont know where to look for the answer.

Do you get paid when you start your training?
I know its a stupid question and the answer is prob yes but just need clarification.
Also what happens if you say injure yourself etc during training.
Do you get back squadded or something.

    Cheers

Yes you get paid. Details of pay are on the consensia website. I think if you are injured you get paid as well until you can go back training, although im not 100% sure if thats how it works.

Good Luck to all who done/are doing their IST exams!

I sat mine and now begins the wait to see if i failed!!!!

I thought Part A was okay, but part B was terrible and I guessed a good few of them!!

I hear if its a fail, I will get the letter this week sometime. So if an A4 letter hits my mat this week, I will be gutted!

    :)

    Hi guys,

I was just wondering if anyone can tell me when the first intake for campaign 13 was. Just trying to figure out a rough timeframe in my mind...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 721 ✭✭✭goodcopbadcop

January I think or maybe Feb. Apparently the first intake for campaign 14 is Jan 09

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 323 ✭✭squirrel81

    hi folks

Does the fitness test take place at the AC or the medical?

Given the fact that my performance in the IST was more than likely an absolute shambles ( that flippin data card  ) I feel silly asking, but sure you know, curiosity and that :)

    Hi goodcop,
By your calculations how many intakes do you think are left for c13? I'm on honeymoon the first two weeks of September so If I got in I hope I can defer. Did you do the IST again?

there is no fitness test as such,i was expecting one at some stage also but never had to do one,the medical however provides an indication of your general health and therefore your potential to be fit,the fitness work begins at garnerville.
