    hi all,

Have my IST in May and after reading the comments from those that have taken it, I am really dreading it......

Looking at previous posts am wondering if there is anything that really prepares you for the actual test?

Also (I know I am jumping wayyyyyyyy into the future here) I aint all that fit...am not a slobby couch potato....but ain't a fitness freak either, oh, and I smoke.....does anyone know if smokers can pass the medical?

Thanks in advance and good luck to my fellow applicants :-)

    Hi,
I used to smoke and my advice is to quit. At the medical you have to blow into this lung capacity tester and it isn't easy. In terms of the IST just try to get as many right rather than trying to answer them all. Good luck

    Hi,

You may have read my previous posts (or not) :). Lots of people have been talking about different books to help with the initial test. I didn't practice at all apart from the few questions on consensia's web page. I did the initial test last year and failed by 4 marks. Sat it again there on Monday, all the questions were exactly the same as last time, so hopefully that will help me. Part A isn't too bad, part B though is quite tough (maths isnt my strong point. Anyway ill leave you some tips/answers to any possible questions you may have in your head:

    *Pencils and rubber is provided
*Clocks on wall (bring a watch though)
    *Work fast
*If you cant work out the answer within a short time for reading the question, guess an answer and move on
    *Remember ID and letter
    *Water is provided
    *48 questions in Part A- 20mins
    *30 questions in Part B-25mins

If i can help with any other questions just ask:D:D

Well that's me just back in from the IST, hopefully went ok!

Biggest pointer I can add for anyone else who is sitting it is watching the time.
I know it's been said before but you really have to watch the time in the 2nd part just to give yourself a fair chance of trying to answer everything.

Apart from that, good luck to anyone else in C14 and hope the C13 guys get sorted out soon.

Getting a letter sent confirming details so I can defer as I need to be released from my current employer (UK forces.) It is a weight off my mind, and it's only bleedin' friday night too!!!

    For Makepeace,

Don't know yet mate. It's still up in the air. Depends when I'm released from my employer and if PSNI can honour that period. Not quite home and dry yet but it's moving in the right direction.

Makes me feel better knowing im not the only person who had to do that test again and still doesn't have campaign 13 resolved. Nightmare so it is. Most of us are going to have to do the assessment centre again too. Not looking forward to that again one bit.

The number is 02890 650222 which is the main switchboard, just ask to be put through to recruitment.
    Good luck!

I'm new to this forum thing too, and been tryin to read as much of the posts as possible! Seems its good to finally hear some good news and moving on from all that tension!
I have my IST coming up, I did it about a year and a half ago and got through to the role play bit and failed those. Thought that section was too focused on your acting skills than whether or not you would make a good police officer. Gettin worried now cause by the sounds of things the apptitude tests are gettin harder and harder. Any one else have any thoughts on the role play bit?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 107 ✭✭mickey2186

    Ali08,

I am starting on May 25th..the aptitude tests have not really changed at all over the last few years. Role plays are usually variations on a theme, so even though each year the scenario changes slightly the questions are similar.

After a few times round you will become an expert!! :D

    Regards.

    Hi folks,

I sat the IST on Wednesday morning. Part A appeared simple enough, but Part B is the devil. Some things never change!

I've been through to the A/C in the last two campaigns, so who knows.... third time lucky???!

Congrats to JVB. It's been a long wait. You can now stop sleeping by the mailbox with your phone taped to your ear. All the best with the training.

This still is a sectarian organisation responsible for commiting some terrible acts against nationalists. It is sickening to read your boyish juvenile excited comments about going to the north to join this sectarian organisation. Shame on you

These posts are going to be removed anyways so this reply is a waste of time but anyway here goes.

Where is the shame in wanting to join a police force, and helping to prevent crime? If you had your car broken into, you would want the police to do something about it. People like you need to let go of whatever secterian strongholds you have been brought up in and let the past stay in the past. Things have changed, and for the better. We are now living in a Northern Ireland where catholics and protestants are working together, and are taking an equal share in the police force. It is a change that alot of people are proud of, and its people like you who drag us back down to where we were 30 years ago.

This will be deleted but just thought I would give you a piece of my mind.

Oh and its the PSNI by the way.

Now run away and take your negativity elsewhere! ;)

I'm from the North and I would only like to say, with deepest sympathy to those who have been hurt in the past, we need and are looking to the future now. We have to. This forum isn't the place for arguements about the past. It is for young men and women of various political stances and religious backgrounds to get help and support as they embark on a career to serve and protect everyone with equality and respect.

well said and I dont think anyone could disagree with this! :D

Anyway if the people on this thread are a reflection of the service then how can anyone have anything say to day about it.
