Yeah thats the main problem scenario. Milan score early and plonk 11 back in their half and try to hit on the break with Kaka and Pato. I've a niggling feeling all those chances missed are going to come back to haunt us. Having said that, one positive is that we only need a score draw. I think we're capable of that much.

Was hoping mad at eboue, he had a case for a peno but the dive was ridiculous. Besides that he'd a great game. Big phil filled in well for kolo too. Seems to have gotten his confidence back.

Big time, actually thought contact was made and most times you may well get a pen, but Eboue arsed it up. Potential to be a great player but someone really needs to sit down and talk to him.

Re: Big Phil the fact that Arsene did not go out and buy a centre back in the transfer window must have been a big boost to his confidence, also the fact that he was playing while Toure was away not only built up his confidence but enabled him to build up a better understanding with the rest of the defenders.

Would have been nice to score tonight, I felt not only did we match Milan, I felt we came out on top. Will be very hard now, possibility RVP will be back. We need to go out and try and play our game in the return leg, no point sitting back.Pity the match is on a Tuesday, we play Villa on the saturday, will be interesting to see what team we put out.

Special mention for Lehman also, has come back and done very well, could easily have gone in Jan but put his family first and now Arsene will find it hard to drop him

Decent enough performance I thought. Ade was very lonely first half, pity we had a guy who has pretty much scored a goal a game for his country on the left wing. We looked more threatening when we finally went 4-4-2 towards the end of the game. How Ade missed that I'll never know but we are more than capable of scoring over there. Come on you Gunners.

I don't know how tonights match went but that was the perfect result for Milan. I've said a few times that Milan lack a Ronaldo or a Kaka, a player that you just can't mark. As it is I'd fancy Rangers to keep Arsenal scoreless at Ibrox. Milan were the worst team Arsenal could have drawn. Anti-football is stronger than football. Simple as that really.

Remember Milan have to score aswell.
All this doom and gloom. The tie is anything but over. They are more then capable of beating them in the San Siro especially based on today performance.

    Chin Up!!

Kaka plays for Milan though does he not?!

Sorry, meant Arsenal. Arsenal are one of the best teams in the world at passing teams off the park but that only goes so far. Milan are the best team in the world at stopping that.

Long ball to Adebayor for 90 minutes in Milan. It'll go in eventually Problem solved.

Ah, I stand under ya now. If there was one player I'd love to see in an Arsenal shirt, its Kaka. He'd suit us down to the ground.

Where was Kaka tonight? Nowhere. He is not immune to having poor games.

Please say your taking the Michael?

Anyway back to the game........absolute cracking game and v.good to watch........milan are so crafty...........pity we didnt take one of those chances........but this tie is defo not over yet........we have quite a few goalscorers on our team and Milan will have to open up more in the san siro........we will just need to take our chance(s) when they arise.

Speaking of Lehman, that throw to Ade in the 1st half was ridiculous, he almost threw it 2/3 of the field.

Although he should have scored this pic shows a shirt pull on the Togan:

He was fairly well marked out of it last night.

Since the millenium Milan have won every second leg game in the last 16, after drawing all but one of the first leg ties. That shows the task that Arsenal face.

That said, Milan still need to score, and Arsenal have been pretty canny in Europe as of late. It will be tight at the San Siro, I don't believe Arsenal will go at Milan like United did last season.

I still think Arsenal are capable of qualifying. If Arsenal score first Milan will have a mountain to climb. They will be forced to play all out attack, which they arent fans of, leaving themselves vulnerable to Arsenal's fleet footed counter attacks.

My God, Lawrenson has done it again
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/7248363.stm

He has "tipped" Birmingham to beat Arsenal this weekend and then puts salt in the wound by then saying that he Expected Milan to score a goal during the week.

What the hell is this guys problem ?
Did an Arsenal fan bully him when he was at school and now he lives only to get retribution in any way possible ?
Has he had an A*nal probe inserted by Gunner loving Aliens ?
Was his moustache shaved off against his will by a barber from Highbury ?

Your guess is as good as mine !

I t's kind of a running joke how bad Lawro is at this tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,746 ✭✭✭✭Galvasean

Looking at Lawro's predictions last week we probably don't need to worry. Had he predicted an Arsenal win I'd be worried!

Did'nt someone somewhere do a league table based on his predictions, Liverpool were top, arsenal 6th or 7th, newcastle 4th, basically he could'nt have been more wrong.

    There's a surprise.

I refuse to discuss 'Lawro', so I'll move discussions on to something else. Here is a post I read earlier and found interesting: http://arsenal-mania.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1208426&highlight=#1208426

Interesting re: Mannone, Barazite and Wilshere especially. Stories about Wilshere have started to surface recently; his strike rate is very impressive for a young central midfielder playing with older players. Barazite's reputation continues to grow, while all the talk had been of Mannone being sold last summer, and now he's got a new 4 year deal. Funny.

Good to hear that our summer centre-back signings Bartley and Nordveit are starting to do well after their injuries. I often feel that Wenger doesn't pay enough attention to the centre-back position; hopefully these boys can help change that perception.

Just watching Nigel Winterburn talking to Bob Wilson now on Arsenal tv,what a legend Winterburn was, I know Pearce was England left back at the time, but can't believe he did not win more caps than he did.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,713 ✭✭✭keano_afc

Complete legend. I remember being in the pub surrounded by Chelsea fans when he scored that winner in 97. Very sweet.

Different era then; with the rotation fetish that most managers have these days and with players continually withdrawing from matches with 'injuries', he would have gotten at least 30 caps had he played a decade later.

Too true though, what a legend Nutty is.

Very true. Love him as a pundit now, very good on Football First imo.

Martin Taylor gets a straight red after a challenge on Emmanuel Adebayor. Cesc Fabregas urgently tells the physio to attend to Adebayor, as the rest of his team-mates look shocked. The striker is badly injured - looks like it could be a broken leg.

 hope that's just scare mongering/bad journalism...

edit: now they've changed it to Eduardo.
