Is the retiring GAA guy Lynch? If so, who is he? Googling just gets loads of references to Jack Lynch and it's a good while since he retired from anything afaik.

    .
Danny Lynch retired as pro of gaa.
Can you help me with 73 down; 57 down and 56 down.
I put in rand for 88 across - but I am not certain it is correct.
    Good luck

73 down is placid - lake placid was the centre for the olympics village.

Sisters sledge is hoey - they are irish bobsleighing sisters

I havent got 56 down yet. Have you got 36 down or 36 across?

    HI
    Thanks a mil.
Dr. Pat O'Callaghan (he practiced medicine in Clonmel)from Co. Cork, maybe, Kanturk, won a gold medal for Hammer throwing at the Olympic games in the ealry part of the last century. So 36a is Hammer and 36d is Heineken; as Idn is cup.
For 56 down I have B--c-. Poker-faced means blank and I am trying to find a sports person with a surname sounding like blank - maybe it is the wrong track!
    Thanks again.

I think it is "African currency for jumper" (don't have it in front of me). I see now that there was someone called Mary Rand who won gold for britain in the olympics (long jump in Tokyo).

Andy Bloch is probably a better known international professional poker player. Typical of the Irish Times to make it even harder for us.
PS. Both surnames will, of course, fit but I assume the IT will only take one answer.

It is an annagram of the words 'tom no epic' first three letters are con - I dont want to make it too easy for you. Get a list of the Lenister rugby players. 23d bull; 53d dart.
    Good luck.
