Its very important that we get Fabregas, Hleb and RVP back asap. They're absolutely vital to us having a good season. Eduardo has the No.9 curse too I fear. The likes of an Anelka or dare I say it Robbie Keane wouldn't be a bad idea. More pressing though is a winger. Modric s'il vous plait.

Next weekend is gonna be a big one for us.

Maybe Anelka, but Robbie Keane?? Think thats your green hat talking :D

No I think he's ****e when pulls on a green shirt. But its been mentioned in the Man Utd thread about having Keane replace Saha. He's in great form for Spurs and knows where the goal is. It's not going to happen but he's the type of player we need.

    Thank God it won't happen.

We have just been very unlucky we have got key players injured at the same time.

Man Utd without Giggs,Ronaldo, Rooney would struggle.
Chelsea without Lumps, Drogba Terry would struggle.
    Liverpool without Gerrard would struggle.

Not being pedantic but nobody was talking about Keane as a replacement for Saha. It was more Anelka or Berbatov for Saha and Keane as a fourth striker, ala Solksjaer.

What's the story with Fabregas, Hleb and Van Persie? How long are they expected to be out for?

    Flamini could be back midweek.
RVP hast started training again but don't think he will be rushed back.

Fabregas and Hleb may not be back in time for Chelsea.

I heard all 3(fabregas, hleb and flamini) should be back for the chelsea game...

But, if it's a typical winger you're after he ain't the answer.
Undoubtedly, he'd be a great aquisition to any top side, but he's a central midfield playmaker.

We're brutal without Fabregas and Hleb. I'm not sure how anyone could have thought there was no way this game could have been lost given the performances against Villa and Newcastle.

I think your lack of squad debt and form away from home showed today and against Newcastle. To be fair, yea were missing some of your best players and any time would struggle if that were the case BUT the rest of the team looked quite tried and sluggish I thought and there wasn't really anyone to come in and take their place.

Debt or depth? One good, one bad :D

You can't adequately replace players like Fabregas, Hleb and Van Persie with players from the squad. Same way Liverpool can't adequately replace Gerrard, Carragher and Torres or Man Utd replace Ferdinand, Rooney and Ronaldo.

Basically those kind of absences hurt teams. It's hurting us at the minute and the next couple of games are a big test. They're a young team however and while I don't think this year will be their year, with a few shrewd aquisitions in Jan/Summer I think Arsenal could challenge on all fronts next year and sustain it.

As Nunu pointed out, Modric's preferred postition is an AM playmaker, but he can play on the wings, he would definitely have helped today.

Just read on Sky Sports that Ajax are putting together a bid for Modric. 15m was mentioned. We really need to get him first. If the money is there, and we all know it is, it should be spent.

I always fear boro, we've a habit of losing to them when we're not expected to.

Gah i hate being kinda right. Well at least none of players got their first goal by scoring for boro, ala reyes and edu.

Worst Arsenal performance Ive seen in a while. One shot on target in the 94th minute against relegation strugglers is simply not good enough. Arsenal could field any starting XI and still should be able to put a team like Boro to the sword.

Couldn't agree more with Galvasean. i think amongst the Arsenal stable of champion racehorses there is a few donkeys., namely Diarra, Eboue, Bendtner, Walcott, Senderos, Gilberto. Not good enough by the huge standards this club sets

    We need creative players IMO.

At this stage, I can't see why Wenger would persist with Diarra and Berto and not start Denilson. I do think that he's been seriously unlucky though. Diaby woudl have done a decent job for us over the last two games as well.

If no players fit vrs Chelsea then I think it has to be. 4-4-2

    Diarra/Denilson/Eboue/Rosicky
    Ade/Bendtner

Theo and Eduardo to come on if we're chasing the game.

Good passing football will only get you so far against a team like, say, Rangers. ;) Arsenal need a C.Ronaldo or a Kaka.

They have one in Hleb. He's amazing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,531 ✭✭✭Fuzzy_Dunlop

Ha its great to see Hleb getting praised so much this year, he really is a superb player and he has finally realised his potential this year. The thing i think he is lacking is real pace and shooting ability like Ronaldo and Kaka have. Still his close control more than makes up for the lack of pace, its amazing how he can keep the ball in tight situations.

And it only tooks him 2 years to adapt, was always amazing on the ball but his final ball left a lot to be desired. He seems to have gotten that now. As for forwards i'd like to see more of Bendtner, really impressed me the last few games he came on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,054 ✭✭✭✭L'prof

I've also heard we have a player called Fabregas and aparantly he's amazing but, surely not as good as Ronaldo or Kaka?

Oh wait, yes he is...easily! I'd take him over the other two any day

I don't know. I think they need someone who, no matter how bad they're playing will still beat 1 or 2 players and produce something special. I don't think Ronaldo or Kaka rely on their teammates as much as Hleb would. As long as they have the ball they're a threat. Hleb is much more of a team player, one touch passing, rather than beating players, imo. I'm typing this in a rush so haven't really got a clue if I'm making sense.

Have to say, I think you're way off here.

I've only seen highlights of the Boro match but Diarra has impressed every time he's pulled on an Arsenal shirt and battled well in a poor team performance against Newcastle. I had no idea why Wenger signed him at the time but I'm very glad he did now.

Likewise Bendtner has made a difference every time he's come on this season - he links the play up really well, he passes intelligently, he's strong + pacy and he can finish. And he's just off his twentieth birthday. I think he'd be third choice striker ahead of Eduardo (on form) if it wasn't for the fact that Wenger wants to give Eduardo as much gametime as possible to settle in.

Walcott has also shown glimpses of what he's capable of this season (and we've only seen him in glimpses). I think if he continues to find his feet this season (and I think Wenger's being very careful not to overplay him or overexpose him), then he could play a big part from next year onwards.

Gilberto's form isn't great at the minute but that's mainly lack of gametime - when he came on for the last 20 or so against United he showed a lot of control and proved he's still capable of fitting into the side very nicely.

Don't see how you could call any of these donkeys that aren't worthy of playing for Arsenal...

Fabregas is a much more rounded player than Kaka.

Can we stop comparing completely different players please? Infact, can we stop comparing players altogether?

I agree with that. Diarra, Bendtner and Walcott are class.

Senderos and Gilberto should be sold in the summer, though.

I had hoped Denilson and Rosicky would step up and fill the creative void left by Hleb and Fabregas, but they haven't. I can forgive Denilson as he is still only a teenager, but Rosicky should be doing better. I'd be delighted if Modric was signed in January. I know January signings don't always work out as intended but he could play both LM and CM and he'd give the team the creativity required with others missing.

One thing that has been concerning me a bit lately has been Adebayor. His strike rate this season is the best he's had but the last few games he's been lazy. His attitude has been a little bit Henry-esque and he keeps trying to play like Henry too. He was absolutely **** in the last 2 games (wondergoal against Newcastle aside).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,920 ✭✭✭AnCapaillMor

Bert i dunno when he's bad he's really bad, but then again he can turn around and have some amazing games. When we're crap he's crap. Altho the fact that flamini's playing out of his skin and we got diarra and diaby i agree on him being sold.

Ade i think he suffers the same, when we're crap he's crap.

I think Ade just can't create and that's where the problem lies. He needs decent service....But I was rather annoyed with him doing stuff like losing the ball and not runnning 5 yards to try and get it back. He's a player who wants to be on the end of things and maybe doesn't see that he has to have a bigger role at times.

I just really rue those damn injuries. I know it's part of the game but I really feel that any two out of Van Persie, Flamini, Hleb and Fabregas for the last two games and we'd be 6 points clear, not 1.

The one good thing is that despite being linked there's no noise coming out of Arsenal about Modric. No one even dares mention his name.

Historically this often means that we'll get him.
