Really nervous about the pool anytime they're doing not so well and we're doing quiet, they always hand us our asses.

yeah, I still hate that Mellor pri*k for what he did a coupl of years ago.

Totally useless but bangs one in from outside the box in the dying seconds against us and went on to never do anything of note again.

Still I guess Baptista scoring 4 in Anfield is equally as stupid. :D:D:D

Mellor also scored in the magnificent game against *******kos in Anfield that season as well.

Funny actually, there was a show made, 100 players who shook the Kop and Mellor was in it for those two goals alone!

Carragher was commenting on the players in the show and when it came to Mellor he shouts all high pitched and scouser-like.....

"Mellor has made the list?!?!?!?!", then he says, "ah no in fairness, he scored those two vital goals and we wouldn't have won the Champions league without him. Plus from wat I've he has piled on the pounds and actually could literally shake the Kop now!"

Funny ****er, dont know where that little story came from, sorry! :)

arsenal's record at anfield over the last few seasons is not great but i see no reason why we should fear them. there is dissentsion in the liverpool camp, players aren't sure if they are going to be playing and they are basically out of form. any positive result at anfield is a bonus, but the three points is not beyond the team. things will be a lot clearer over the next 8/9 days.. difficult run coming up november/december with chelsea, evertonand others looming

Well tomorrow provides a massive test for this Arsenal squad
Everyone else are looking to see how Arsenal will perform against Liverpool away and United at Home before they judge their title credentials

Not sure what way wenger will go with the team for sunday
He might play a 5 man midfield with 1 player more than likley hleb pushing up behind Adebayor
    or
He might play 2 up front then its a shoot out between walcott and eduardo

If there is a weakness in Liverpool at the moment it's Hyypia so if Adebayor puts enough pressure on him he might get some joy. Hyypia is short of pace and confidence at the moment.
At the same time Arsenal must beware of the 'good touch for a big man' Crouch as I think Benetiez will start him considering what he did to Arsenal last year
Personally I think this will be a draw 1-1, which would be a good result for arsenal

Can't wait till Sunday, Come on you Gooners !!

Jermaine Pennant told The Independent (re: Wenger at Arsenal): "There has got to be something. If you look now there are no English players in the squad, apart from Theo (Walcott) and he's not a regular, even though he's been there for a while now.

"I always felt we got overlooked. The facts speak for themselves. There are no English players in that team so he must have something, not necessarily against them, but that they don't fit into his philosophy.

"He likes the foreign players more. Maybe he believes their attributes are better. And that's his choice."
Perhaps it was his wonderful attitude and penchant for breaking the law that caused Wenger to overlook him? Cretin.

It's not like liverpools team is packed with English players either. I guess these players just say what fits best.

what are all of yea expecting tomorrow result/scoreline wise ? Do you think it will be a walkover seeing as yea are flying and we are going through a bad patch ?

What Liverpool players do you feel will cause you problems & what players do you think are our weak links ?

just curious. It's a massive game though, a loss for Liverpool and we could potentially slip down as far as 8th depending on other results! A win and we could move to 3rd place 3 points off yourselves. I can't wait.

Form doesn't usually have that much baring on these games.

Liverpool's weakest link at the moment looks to be Hyypia at the back. I'm surprised he wasn't replaced over the summer. I presume Benitez will pack the midfield; if he does not and goes for a 4-4-2 with Gerrard in the centre then I would consider that a possible weak point too which would likely give Arsenal a lot of possession.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

I can't see Rafa going for a 4-4-2 with Gerrard in the middle, it'd be suicide! Giving Arsenal that much possession is just asking for trouble. He really must go for a 4-5-1, try to 'dominate' possession by passing it around the back a ****load, then hope for some magic from Gerrard or Torres.

If current form is anything to go by Arsenal SHOULD win. However form doesnt win football matches.
I'm hoping Gerrard will be knackered after chasing Besiktas for 90 minutes mid week. A lot will be depending on fitness for this game.

On a side note, I read somewhere the other day that Traore and Ade are the fastest in the squad over 100 metres, ahead of walcott. So Traore up front to take advantage of Hyypia yeah?

I think we should go 5 in midfield for today with Hleb in the hole. Try and draw some attention away from Cesc, or else exploit any extra space there.

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 15,001 ✭✭✭✭Pepe LeFrits

Looks like Hleb in the hole today with Adebayor as lone striker.

God I hate Eboue. One of these days he's gonna get smacked full force in the face and the ref won't do shit about it.

Defending those corners was awful dodge.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,114 ✭✭✭Pacifico

Fabregas, Eboue and Adebayor have been woeful so far

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 15,001 ✭✭✭✭Pepe LeFrits

A shame not to get the 3 points there as Arsenal were much better, but a draw isn't the worst result.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,489 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

Probably just did enough to deserve the 3 points with those 2 post/open goal chances but a draw at Anfield is not to be sniffed at and Pool had their chances to win it too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,746 ✭✭✭✭Galvasean

I say, the post got more touches than some of the Liverpool players!

i think we were very good at times against pool and a win wouldn't have been a completely unreasonable result... but at the same time, they struggled a bit (albeit against a very deep-lying Liverpool side) to create really clear-cut chances so I'm not sure the win was definitely deserved...

any thoughts on the team for Man U next week? My feeling on Sunday was that Wenger was trying not to expose Eduardo/Walcott to the possibility of things going badly in a big match - Eduardo because things haven't quite clicked yet (between injury and the settling-in period he'll naturally need) and Walcott because the confidence gained from two good showings against Bolton and Slavia could have evaporated quite quickly if things went pear-shaped in a high-profile game...

I think Ade is stuck a bit at the moment, though - working decently for the team and still showing for the ball but my feeling is that he could maybe do with someone closer to him for longer periods of the game (even Hleb playing in his pre-season role again?)

Anyone reckon the team will change from last week? Or will that team and set-up do fine against a Man U side that won't lie as deep as Liverpool?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,920 ✭✭✭AnCapaillMor

He'll play 2 up forward against united, don't ask me me who, there'll be more freedom against utd than there was against the pool.

Lets not forget the game against Sheffield United tomorrow night live on Sky Sports One!
    Sean Bean is going down...

There are stories in the newspapers today that Gilberto has been dropped from the squad for refusing to play centreback against against Sheffield United. Very surprising if true and I'll be disappointed if it is the case, as one would expect much more from Gilberto, especially given the lack of cover in that position. Senderos is injured and I have a sneaking suspicion Nordtveit is too, so it means a first teamer (Toure, Gallas or Sagna) will have to play there unless Wenger decides to go with a Song & Justin/Gavin Hoyte CB pairing.

Hard to blame 'Bert though, he's getting his game for Brazil but not Arsenal  Personally I though he would have been a better choice at CM/DM than Flamini at the weekend but that said Flamini hasn't done anything to drop himself. However I do think we need a physically big centre mid, at corners at the weekend the only tall player we had of note was Ade. We're a small team, even at CB.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,397 ✭✭✭yahoo_moe

Have to say, glad he wasn't parachuted back in out of panic on Sunday (which wouldn't have been very Arsene-like) but thought he did very well while he was on - Flamini was just beginning to look a bit knackered (and he was asked to shuffle between centre-mid and left-back ) but Gilberto slotted in well and added a real sense of composure when it was needed

As would I but I think Wenger handled the captaincy situation very badly at the end of the summer and Gilberto was obviously quite hurt by that.

Funny to think that when he gave Gallas the armband, Arsene also referred to the leadership role Kolo, Jens and Gilberto would have to play - two of whose knickers are now supposedly in serious twists and who could be out the door in January...

“I deny that categorically, and I find this assessment disrespectful to a great professional like Gilberto,” said the manager. “He is 100 per cent professional and is in the squad for tomorrow. He will play.

“I believe that as a manager and as a player you always have one thing in your mind and that is what is good for the club and the team. I cannot fault Gilberto on that since he arrived here.

“Recently he has played less, but his mentality has been superb. It is important to win every single competition and in this one I use younger players because traditionally it has always been like that. It has helped us a lot to develop the players.”

The only injuries in the Arsenal squad are Philippe Senderos (back) and Robin van Persie (knee) but there is every possibility neither would have played. Wenger has always put out a squad side in this competition and it seems he will continue in the same vein on Wednesday.

“You could see Justin Hoyte and Song,” he said. “Walcott maybe and Eduardo will play. We will need a strong squad up there.”
    That's that sorted out then.

The team will presumeably be: Fabianski; Traore, Song, Gilberto, Hoyte; Diaby, Denilson, Diarra, Walcott; Eduardo, Bendtner

Should have more than enough for Sheffield United.

If thats the team that lines up I predict a 3-1 win for Arsenal.

    Yeah, Arsenal rule!!!!

Dying to see this match as much as last weekends or the coming one.

That does sound crazy but bear with me for a second. Tonight we get to see:

Diarra after his amazing performance vrs Newcastle.

Traore after his amazing performance vrs Newcastle.

Walcott who after good sub performances and a great champs league debut is now expected to be one of the main goal threats. Will he deliver??

Merida who's expected to get a bit of gametime.

Argh, it's gonna be great. :D:D

I'm afraid not, he's been left out of the squad. He must have been in action for the France U18 team last night.

A shame as he was so good in the last game, but it means we will now see either Gavin Hoyte, Merida, Barazite, Gibbs or Lansbury get a first start. I reckon it'll be Gavin Hoyte at right-back (even though he is a CB) with Justin at left-back, although it could be Diarra at RB with one of the young midfielders taking his place. Gibbs could even play at LB. It'll be interesting to see anyway. It should be a tough test.
