Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    I wear a fáinne on my jacket, and did get spoken to in Irish in Portwest... but is there any Irish in Westport, really? I suppose I could ring the Gaelscoil and ask if any of the teachers there go for a pint once in a while.

    You'll find every language but irish in westport.

    Yoda - to be honest I have never come across any 100% speakers in Westport, I am a casual Irish speaker as in I will say slán instead of goodbye and use Irish words in my english sentences.
    I know Tourmakeady has an Gaelteacht but nothing much in Westport. But if there is a Gealscoil in Westport then there has to be Irish speakers there somewhere.

    I don't know about "100%" speakers; I do use Irish daily on the phone and in my work, though my primary language is English. (I use Danish, German, Spanish, and French whenever I need to too.) I like speaking Irish. :)

    We took a drive and I've passed through Tourmakeady -- very pretty area. I guess I'll give the Gaelscoil a bell and ask.
